Web Expert System for Nutrition Counseling and Menu Management

  • This study was conducted to develop a web expert system for nutrition counseling and menu management. This program manipulates a food, dish and menu and search database that has been developed. Clients can select a recommended general and therapeutic menu using this system. The web expert system can analyze nutrients in menus and compare nutrient contents of menus with Korean Recommended Dietary Allowances. It can access the food, dish and menu database. The expert menu database can insert, store and generate the synthetic information of age, sex, and therapeutic purpose of disease. With investigation and analysis of the client's needs, the menu planning program on the internet has been continuously developed. This system consists of the database that reaches to the food composition, the dishes and the menu. Clients can search food composition and conditional food based on nutrient name and amounts. This system is able to draw up the food with its order in dish. The menu planning can be organized and nutrients analysis can be compared with Korea Recommended Allowance. This system is able to read the nutrient composition of the each food, the dish and the menu. The results of analysis is presented quickly and accurately. Therefore it can be used by not only usual people but also dietitians and nutritionists who take charge of making a menu and experts in the field of food and nutrition. It is expected that the web expert system can be useful of nutrition education, nutrition counseling and expert menu management.

  • This paper provides readers with an attempt In applying expert systems to structural engineering. As a demonstrative domain to provide the pontentiality of expert system foundation design is presented. Foundation design can have less formalized phage in the overall design process, particularly during preliminary design. It depends on several factors: the function of the structure and the loads it must carry the subsurface conditions, and the cost of foundation, The expert system in the paper is to be used for determining the type of foundation.

  • The objective of this study is to provide guidelines for expert witness in product liability lawsuits. The expert testimony is one of the powerful methods to mitigate the burden of the proof in product liability litigations. However, it has been seldomly accepted as a reliable evidence by trial judges because the expert's testimony has sometimes turned out to be illogical and unreliable. In order for the expert testimony to be admittable in the court, the expert should have a thorough understanding of his/her role as an expert witness and follow scientific methodology whose soundness has been generally accepted by both industries and academy.

  • Grinding is used for machining high precision parts with high additional value. However, the grinding operation needs high skill and long experience of an operator because of a lack of the scientific knowledge and engineering principles. Also, the wheel and grinding conditions affect grinding results. For these reasons, it is difficult to construct computer integrated manufacturing system(CIMA). Therefore, it is necessary for Expert System to be informed of qualitative knowledge of grinding expert's skills and experiences. In this research, the Grinding Expert System is constructed by Fuzzy Decision Making Algorithm. Using this system, unskilled workers will be able to use the knowledge and experience of an expert.

  • Expert systems which represent the appllication of artificial intelligence research are now nearly 20 years old. It is said that the present technology together with ever- increasing computing applicability of Combined Hypertext-Expert System Techniques to the design of reinforced concrete structures. Hypertext systems allow the user to control the system while expert systems alone don't give the user any control over the system. Therefore the combination of these two techniques, offered by KnowledgePro, may bring us closer to real user-expert communication. The system developed in this work offers information on design in general by reorganizing ACI Manual 318-89, detailed stress analysis and cross sectional design of simple PC/RC beams and optimum design of reinforced concrete building frames. The system also includes the author's earlier work on guidance to identify types of cracks in concrete. 관리도 선정 및 해석을 위한 전문가시스템 개발 (An Expert System Development for Control Chart Selection and Interpretation)

  • The control chart has been used widely and importantly as a tool for statistical process control(SPC). Most companies are concerned with improving the quality and the productivity as well as reducing the cost, especially in today's highly competitive environment. Though SPC is known as a technique for consistent quality, it is not used properly due to lack of knowledge about it. It is required to develop a support system for control chart selection and interpretation that can be utilized by non-specialist without hard training or experiences. The support system was developed by applying the expert system tool to popular control charts. Though some researches on this area has been performed, the implemented results expose many problems in field applications due to the unsatisfactory explanation of the selected control chart and limited knowledge base for resolving the problems. This thesis presented an expert system for control chart as solution for these problems. The expert system for the control chart selection and interpretation is developed by using Turbo C and EXSYS which is an expert system development tool.

Research on Cognitive Load Theory and Its Design Implications for Problem Solving Instruction

  • The purpose of this study was to develop the problem solving instruction facilitating novice learner to represent the problem. For the purpose, we mainly focused on three aspects of problem solving. First, learner should represent the targeted problem and its solutions for problem solving. Second, from crucial notions of cognitive load theory, learner's mental load should be optimized for problem representation. Third, for optimizing students' mental load, experts may support making their thinking more visible and mapping from their intuition to expert practice. We drew the design principles as follows. First, since providing worked examples for the targeted problem has been considered to minimize analogical errors as well as reduce cognitive load in problem representation at line of problem solving and instructional research, it is needed to elaborate the way of designing. The worked example alternatively corresponds to expert schema that consists of domain knowledge as well as strategies for expert-like problem representation and solution. Thus, it may help learner to represent what the problem is and how to solve it in problem space. Second, principle can be that expert should scaffold learner's self-explanations. Because the students are unable to elicit the rationale from worked example, the expert's triggering scaffold may be critical in that process. The unexplained and incomplete parts of the example should be completed not by expert's scaffold but by themselves. Critical portion of the expert's scaffold is to explain about how to apply and represent the given problem, since students' initial representations may be reached at superficial or passive pattern of example elaboration. Finally, learner's mental model on the designated problem domain should be externalized or visualized for one's reflection as well as expert's scaffolding activities. The visualization helps learner to identify one's partial or incorrect model. The correct model of learner could be constructed by expert's help.

  • 전문가시스템은 인공지능 연구의 한 분야로서 인간전문가가 가지고 있는 전문지식을 컴퓨터에 표현하여 컴퓨터로 하여금 문제해결 능력을 갖도록 한 컴퓨터 프로그램이다. 선박 설계 작업은 설계전문가의 전문지식과 경험이 매우 중요하므로, 선박 설계를 위한 전문가시스템을 구성하여 이를 이용한다면 설계 작업의 효율성이 매우 증가할 것이다. 본 연구에서는 전문가시스템의 특성을 파악 하였고, SWATH선의 수직안정성을 평가할 수 있는 Prototype 전문가시스템을 개발하였다.

  • An expert system for estimation of fatigue properties from simple tensile data of material is developed, considering nearly all important estimation methods proposed so far, i.e., 7 estimation methods. The expert system is developed using an expert system shell, UNIK, and the knowledge base is constructed with production rules and frames. Forward chaining is employed as a reasoning method. The expert system has three major functions including the function to update the knowledge base. The performance of the expert system is tested using the 54 ${\sigma}-N$ curves consisting of 381 ${\sigma}-N$ data points obtained for 22 materials. It is found that the expert system developed has excellent performance especially for steel materials, and reasonably good for titanium alloys.
