  • Stereotactic implantation of intracranial lesions, and the development of stereotactic convergent irradiation, radiosurgery, techniques have to obtain the accurate coordinates of the tumor locations and that of critical organ. Computed tomography(CT) provides relatively precise imformations of tumor localization and surround the normal organs for conventional radiotherapy. This CT image use to extend for stereotactic radiosurgery procedures. Since the convergent irradiation technique in linear accelerator requires the target center coincident with gantry isocenter or radosurgery frame, the target coordinates must be described in accurately. We used the BRW stereotactic system for describing the target position in CT images This algorithm provides the coordinate conversions for orthogonal or non-orthogonal CT scan image. In this experiments, the target positions have shown the small discripancy within :to.3mm uncertanty in several known target positions in the phantom through the provided programs and it compared to that of BRW stereotactic systems.

Synthesis of 2,3-Dihydrobenzofuran Derivatives over HMCM-41 Catalysts (HMCM-41 촉매에서 2,3-Dihydrobenzofuran 유도체의 합성)

  • 2,3-Dihydrobenzofuran derivatives, important intermediates of medicines and agricultural chemicals, were prepared from aryl methallyl ethers over MCM-41 mesoporous material catalysts. Two mesoporous materials with Si/Al mole ratios of 40 and 50 were prepared to investigate the effect of acid site concentration on their catalytic activities. Aryl methallyl ethers with various substituents on their benzene rings were used to investigate the effect of electron density on benzene ring on the conversion of the ethers and the yield of 2,3-dihydorbenzofuran derivatives. The catalyst with a high acid site concentration showed high conversions, but it is difficult to correlate the yield of the derivatives with the acid site concentration. The increase in the electron density of the benzene ring by introducing electron-donating groups accelerated Claisen rearrangement reaction, resulting in the enhanced yield of the derivatives. On the other hand, the decrease in the electron density by introducing electron-attracting groups accelerated the cracking reaction of aryl methallyl ether by acid catalysts, producing phenol derivatives rather than 2,3-dihydrobenzofuran derivatives.

Synthesis of Acrylic Resins with 80% Solid Contents for High-Solid Coatings (하이솔리드 도료용 80% 고형분인 아크릴수지의 합성)

  • Copolymers (HSA-98-20, HSA-98-0, HSA-98+20) which are acrylic resin containing 80% solid content were synthesized by the reaction of monomers, including methyl methacrylate, n-butyl acrylate, and 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate with a functional monomer, such as acetoacetoxyethyl methacrylate (AAEM), which may improve in cross-linking density and physical properties of films. The physical properties of prepared acrylic resins, containing AAEM, are as follows : viscosity, $1420{\sim}5760cps$ ; number average molecular weight, $2080{\sim}2300$ ; polydispersity index, $2.07{\sim}2.19$ ; conversions, $88{\sim}93%$, respectively. To prepare acryl resins, four kinds of initiators including ${\alpha},{\alpha}'-azobisisobutyronitirile$ (AIBN), di-tert-butyl peroxide (DTBP), t-amylperoxy-2-ethyl hexanoate (APEH), benzoyl peroxide (BPO) were used. The viscosity of the acrylic resins prepared with these initiators was increased in the order of DTBP>APEH>AIBN>BPO. APEH was proved as a suitable initiator in this study. Shear rates of acrylic resins were constant in respect to viscosity. From these results, it would appear that the resins have Newtonian flow characteristics and good workability.

VOCs Oxidation Characteristics of Transition $Metals/\gamma-Al_2O_3$ Catalyst (전이금속/$\gamma-Al_2O_3$ 촉매의 VOCs 산화특성)

  • Catalytic oxidation characteristics of benzene as a VOC was investigated using a fixed bed reactor system over transition $metals/\gamma-Al_2O_3$ catalysts. As transition metals, eight metals including copper, nickel, manganese, iron etc. were adopted. The parametric tests were conducted at the reaction temperature range of $200\sim500^{\circ}C$, benzene concentration of $1,000\sim3,000$ ppm, and space velocity range of $5,000\sim60,000\;hr^{-l}$. The property analyses such as BET, SEM, XRD and the conversions of catalytic oxidation of VOC were examined. The experimental results showed that the conversion was increased with decreasing VOC concentration and space velocity. It was also found that $Cu/\gamma-Al_2O_3$ catalyst calcinated at $500^{\circ}C$ showed the highest activity for the oxidation of benzene and 15% metal loading was the optimum impregnation level.

  • This study experimentally investigates the characteristics of Lamb wave propagating in a composite plate of varied thickness. In practical aerospace structures, there are so many parts that have varied thickness. Therefore, in order to employ the Lamb wave in a structural health monitoring of those parts, it is necessary to understand correctly the characteristics of Lamb wave for the structure with thickness variation. Thin surface-bonded piezoelectric transducers, which have great potential in integrated monitoring systems for structural health, were used to generate and receive Lamb waves. The predicted propagation velocity under the assumptions of ideal mode conversions was compared with the experimentally measured one. The validity of the results was supported by the frequency analysis of the signals. Consequently, the results show that the transient region is occurred when Lamb waves propagate across the region that thickness variation over some gradient exists.

  • The methods for implementing geocentric to geodetic coordinates conversion could be classified into two, which are respectively the closed-form and the iterative-form solutions. Essential conditions to achieve performances are accuracy, speed of convergence and/or simplicity of it's algorithm. Also, the algorithm must be valid at any of inner and outer points in the Earth, including center of Earth, the equatorial plane and the polar axis that are known as 'special regions'. This research planned for evaluating the feasibility of coordinates conversion in special regions, and comparing the accuracy of conversion solutions by using 10 methods for conversions from geocentric to geodetic coordinates. By comparing performances of statistical tests(with accuracy and solving success in special regions), Vermeille(2011) and Karney(2011) methods brought out more satisfied and finer results than other methods.

  • Background: Dried and red ginseng are well-known types of processed ginseng and are widely used as healthy food. The dried and red ginseng quality may vary with the storage period of raw ginseng. Therefore, herein, the effect of the storage period of fresh ginseng on processed ginseng quality was evaluated through multicomponent quantification with statistical analysis. Methods: A method based on ultrahigh performance liquid chromatography coupled to triple quadrupole mass spectrometry in multiple-reaction monitoring mode (UPLC-MRM-MS) was developed for quantitation of ginsenosides and oligosaccharides in dried and red ginseng. Principal component analysis and partial least squares discriminant analysis were conducted to evaluate the dynamic distributions of ginsenosides and oligosaccharides after different storage periods. Results: Eighteen PPD, PPT and OLE ginsenosides and nine reducing and nonreducing oligosaccharides were identified and quantified. With storage period extension, the ginsenoside content in the processed ginseng increased slightly in the first 2 weeks and decreased gradually in the following 9 weeks. The content of reducing oligosaccharides decreased continuously as storage time extending, while that of the nonreducing oligosaccharides increased. Chemical conversions occurred during storage, based on which potential chemical markers for the storage period evaluation of fresh ginseng were screened. Conclusion: According to ginsenoside and oligosaccharide distributions, it was found that the optimal storage period was 2 weeks and that the storage period of fresh ginseng should not exceed 4 weeks at 0 ℃. This study provides deep insights into the quality control of processed ginseng and comprehensive factors for storage of raw ginseng.

  • The packaging plastic manufacturing(blown film) industry has long developed in China, but most of them are small/medium-sized enterprises, and it is very rare to have appropriate operation plans suitable for their own business. The packaging plastic manufacturing industry(blown film) follows a typical Make-To-Order method, and the sequence of processing orders is very important. Waste of materials incurred by frequent conversions of production cannot be avoided, and generally, related costs incurred during conversion production are also different. Therefore, this study developed a job sequence determination model for improving operating profits using @RISK simulation software, compared and analyzed 3 actionable clustering treatment methods proposed by technical managers and field experts under the actual situation of the factory.

Isolation and Characterization of Engineered Nucleoside Deoxyribosyltransferase with Enhanced Activity Toward 2'-Fluoro-2'-Deoxynucleoside

  • Nucleoside deoxyribosyltransferase (NDT) is an enzyme that replaces the purine or pyrimidine base of 2'-deoxyribonucleoside. This enzyme is generally used in the nucleotide salvage pathway in vivo and synthesizes many nucleoside analogs in vitro for various biotechnological purposes. Since NDT is known to exhibit relatively low reactivity toward nucleoside analogs such as 2'-fluoro-2'-deoxynucleoside, it is necessary to develop an enhanced NDT mutant enzyme suitable for nucleoside analogs. In this study, molecular evolution strategy via error-prone PCR was performed with ndt gene derived from Lactobacillus leichmannii as a template to obtain an engineered NDT with higher substrate specificity to 2FDU (2'-fluoro-2'-deoxyuridine). A mutant library of 214 ndt genes with different sequences was obtained and performed for the conversion of 2FDU to 2FDA (2'-fluoro-2'-deoxyadenosine). The E. coli containing a mutant NDT, named NDTL59Q, showed 1.7-fold (at 40℃) and 4.4-fold (at 50℃) higher 2FDU-to-2FDA conversions compared to the NDTWT, respectively. Subsequently, both NDTWT and NDTL59Q enzymes were over-expressed and purified using a His-tag system in E. coli. Characterization and enzyme kinetics revealed that the NDTL59Q mutant enzyme containing a single point mutation of leucine to glutamine at the 59th position exhibited superior thermal stability with enhanced substrate specificity to 2FDU.
