Arbitration of tag collision is a significant issue for fast tag identification in RFID systems. A good tag anti-collision algorithm can reduce collisions and increase the efficiency of tag identification. EPCglobal Generation-2 (Gen2) for passive RFID systems uses probabilistic slotted ALOHA with a Q algorithm, which is a kind of dynamic framed slotted ALOHA (DFSA), as the tag anti-collision algorithm. In this paper, we analyze the performance of the Q algorithm used in Gen2, and analyze the methods for estimating the number of slots and tags for DFSA. To increase the efficiency of tag identification, we propose new tag anti-collision algorithms, namely, Chebyshev's inequality, fixed adjustable framed Q, adaptive adjustable framed Q, and hybrid Q. The simulation results show that all the proposed algorithms outperform the conventional Q algorithm used in Gen2. Of all the proposed algorithms, AAFQ provides the best performance in terms of identification time and collision ratio and maximizes throughput and system efficiency. However, there is a tradeoff of complexity and performance between the CHI and AAFQ algorithms.

The unique properties of graphene have earned much interest in the fields of materials science and condensedmatter physics in recent years. However, the biological applications of graphene remain largely unexplored. In this study, we investigate the cell culture conditions, which are exposed to graphene onto glass and $SiO_2$/Si using human nerve cell line, SH-SY5Y. Cell viability was 84% when cultured on glass and $SiO_2$/Si coated with graphene as compared to culturing on polystyrene surface. Fluorescence data showed that the presence of graphene did not influence cell morphology. These findings suggest that graphene may be used for biological applications.
This case is to analyze the structure of technology convergence with social network analysis. More specifically, the convergence structure among input technologies mediated with products is analyzed with 2-mode social network analysis. Products are identified in project's goal and coded as the Korea Standard Industrial Classification. The input technologies are coded as the National Science Technology Classification. The subjects were 401 R&D projects applied to '2012 Convergence Technology Development Project for Small and Medium Businesses' promoted by Korea Technology & Information Promotion Agency for Small and Medium Enterprises. IT sectors had the structure of a particular input technology connected to many products, BT sectors also had a few input technology connected to many products but most were connected to specific products. Therefore We have realized that each convergence area had different convergence structure. There were the difference of connectivity centrality between input technologies and input technologies mediated with products. For IT sectors, the embedded S/W were the highest in both cases. For BT sectors, functional cosmetic development and fermentation technology were the highest in input technologies but fermentation technology was not the highest in input technologies mediated with products. This case defines the convergence based on the real projects and the use for managing and planing projects. Therefore, this case was to make a tool to analyze and design technology convergence projects.
Purpose The high-technology market shows characteristics of a highly interdependent network market in both supply-side and demand-side, compared to other markets. Particularly, for convergence products, connectivity with related elements, as well as characteristics of innovation itself, is relatively important to the extent that they combine functions provided by several devices into a single device. Therefore, this study aims to identify whether network externality exists in value and adoption of a convergence product and discover a source of network externality, if any. Design/methodology/approach: Through a preceding research analysis and a literature review, 'social influence' and 'network size' have been drawn as direct network elements. On the other hand, general (comprehensive) concept compatibilities including 'intra-technology compatibility', 'inter-technology compatibility' and 'complementary-technology compatibility' are regarded as indirect network elements. Findings: Major findings are as followed;- First, it is shown that the factors influencing on perceived value of a convergence products are 'social influence' and 'network size' as the direct network elements and 'complementary-compatibility' among indirect network elements. Second, it is also found that 'intra-technology compatibility', 'inter-technology compatibility', 'complementary-compatibility' and 'perceived value' have significant effects on adoption of a convergence product. Particularly, it is known that 'complementary-compatibility' is an important source of network externality as it plays a decisive role in value judgment and has significant effects on perceived value. It is worthwhile to notice that this study comprehensively explains effects of network on high-tech products by structuring comparability as a multi-dimensional concept, as well as direct network elements.

In this study, we conducted technology monitoring to search for the current technology level and new technologies targeting the core technologies selected as "convergence technologies based on advanced ICT". This technology group, selected by the National Research Foundation(NRF) as one of the future-emerging technologies in 2018, consists of 'next-generation millimeter wave wireless communication technology', 'data-centric computing technology', and 'immersive media interface' that can be seen as important technologies in the fourth industrial revolution. It is possible to provide strategic research direction to the R&D-related stakeholders of countries or enterprises by providing information on newly emerged technologies through quantitative analysis based on patent data on these technologies. Therefore, in this study, we proposed a new technology for the convergence technologies based on advaned ICT group through patent data based on the newly emerged IPC code, and also suggested that it can suggest a strategic direction in planning R&D on related technologies.

Computer simulations were conducted to demonstrate the generation of microwave-induced thermoacoustic signal. The simulations began with modelling an object with a biological tissue characteristic and irradiating it with a microwave pulse. The time-varying heating function data at every particular point on the illuminated object were obtained from absorbed electric field data from the simulation result. The thermoacoustic signal received at a point transducer at a particular distance from the object was generated by applying heating function data to the thermoacoustic equation. These simulations can be used as a foundation for understanding how thermoacoustic signal is generated and can be applied as a basis for thermoacoustic imaging simulations and experiments in future research.

Objectives: This study analyzes TVOC concentrations in root industry workplaces in order to prevent probable occupational disease among workers. Root industry includes all the infrastructure of manufacturing, such as casting and molding. Methods: Real-time TVOC sensors were deployed in three root industry workplaces. We measured TVOC concentrations with these sensors and analyzed the results using a data-analysis tool developed with Python 3.9. Results: During the study period, the mean of the TVOC concentrations remained in an acceptable range, 0.30, 2.15, and 1.63 ppm across three workplaces. However, TVOC concentrations increased significantly at specific times, with respective maximum values of 4.98, 28.35, and 26.65 ppm for the three workplaces. Moreover, the analysis of hourly TVOC concentrations showed that during working hours or night shifts TVOC concentrations increased significantly to higher than twice the daily mean values. These results were scrutinized through classical decomposition results and autocorrelation indices, where seasonal graphs of the corresponding classical decomposition results showed that TVOC concentrations increased at a specific time. Trend graphs showed that TVOC concentrations vary by day. Conclusions: Deploying a real-time TVOC sensor should be considered to reflect irregularly high TVOC concentrations in workplaces in the root industry. It is expected that the real-time TVOC sensor with the presented data analysis methodology can eradicate probable occupational diseases caused by detrimental gases.

While the 4th Industrial Revolution (4th IR) is actively being discussed in Korea, the core and common point is that in the era of the 4th IR, computer networking is becoming more common due to the generalization of ICT(Information and Communication Technology). There may be a variety of factors that have allowed ICT to occupy a core position in the 4th IR, but the most important may be the position of ICT as a foundation technology. ICT has important technical value in itself, but when it is converged with other technology or industry, or when it acts as a foundation technology of such technology or industry, it greatly improves the value of existing technology or industry. Thus, this paper focused on ICT, the core technology of the 4th IR, to examine the past, present and future of ICT-related R&D and ICT-based convergence industries. In other words, the purpose of this study is to identify which areas ICT has been actively researched from past to present and what changes have been made in such areas.
