  • Generally a venture capital aims at investment and support Venture businesses that signifies a start-up which has high technologies but frailty of the economy so that raise fund from financial agencies at high risk rate, it has high risk but when the venture businesses launch into general orbit, the venture capital guarantee high-rate profits. Venture capital do not just provide risk capital but also takes a role as a mentor for continuous growth with total consulting service at business and technical management. Also it offers in-depth support to reform the supported enterprise in order to enhance the competitive. Venture capital receives attention for years as a principal agent to be promoted strategically at national level. Bio venture, a major concern of venture capital and one of core industries in Korea, is different from other industries because it needs long-term and large scale of investment. these factors bring about difficulties in an investment and growth. Therefore, it is very important to identify growth and profitability of start-ups and small and venture businesses with long-term appreciation above all other industries. This research analyze management results of bio venture businesses empirically by investment from venture capital. according to the results, bio venture businesses need huge capital and a long gap of time, henceforth, formation of model for growth is necessary with angel investing as well as venture capital. Since, there are not many listed bio venture businesses, significant statistical result would be limited. This research studied at only economic focus but further study need to examine a question from various angles.

R&D Efficiency Analysis Case of the Machine Tools Industry by Using DEA (DEA를 활용한 민간 기업의 R&D 효율성 분석 사례: 공작기계 A사를 중심으로)

  • This case analyzed the efficiency of 79 R&D projects performed within one private research center in machine tools industry. DEA was used for efficiency analysis. Input variables were R&D investment expense and man-month. Output variables were achievement rate on target development period and expected net sales within 5-years. Samples are divided into product development, Prior technology development, and control technology development. The key result is that Prior technology showed the lowest efficiency because of high uncertainty. It was so difficult to determine its goals and to make its specific plans. With respect to scale, the proportions of CRS(constant returns to scale) were 34.6%, 14.3% and 38.9% for product development, prior technology, control technology respectively. As for IRS(increase returns to scale), they were 53.8%, 85.7% and 38.9% for product development, prior technology, control technology respectively. As for DRS(decrease returns to scale) they were 11.5%, 0% and 22.2% for product development, prior technology, control technology respectively. On the whole, in this case, insufficient input was more problematic than excessive input, which means the lack of investment in R&D. Prior technology can be the source of the future competitiveness of companies. To operate inefficient DMU efficiently, the optimal input should be managed and it is derived from comparison with the reference group.

  • Defense expenditure is the investment for national defense capabilities acquisitions based on the national competitiveness, and includes research and development budgets more than some fixed ratio. So we need to guarantee the defense research and development budgets for National Defense Reform 2020 to posture that correspond to the future warfare, to acquire advanced weapon systems and critical technologies effectively. Especially advancement of the defense technology capabilities for future warfare is one of the issues that we are faced, and it needs to be researched and interested continuously. In this paper, we analysed 16 nation`s defense expenditures growth patterns and defense S&T indices, and proposed the needs of the guaranteed funding at the fixed ratio for defense S&T development.

  • 본 연구는 IT 기술과 IT 산업 관련 주식가치의 연관성에 대하여 이론적인 동향분석과 우리나라 IT 산업 관련주가를 중심으로 간단한 실증분석을 실시하였다. 본 연구의 분석결론은 다음과 같이 크게 세 가지로 기술할 수 있다. 우리나라의 경우 IT 기술과 IT 관련 산업 주식 수익률은 상당히 큰 연관관계가 나타나고 있다. 둘째, 1990년 초반부터 2002년까지 분석기간 동안, 다른 산업의 주가수익률에 비하여 여러 통계적결과로 볼 때, 주식투자가에게 긍정적인 투자유인요인이 많았다는 사실이다. 마지막으로 IT 관련 주식 수익률은 선형성보다는 비선형성이 강하게 나타났다. 이러한 연구결과는 IT 관련 주식가치 연구분야에서 현재 보편적인 선형분석 방법론보다 비선형방법론에 입각한 방법론을 사용하여 연구결과를 제시해야 한다는 사실을 뒷받침하고 있다.

  • IT 기술은 다른 유망산업과 융합되어 새로운 기술과 제품 및 서비스를 생성하여 새로운 시장을 창출하는 버팀목 역할을 수행한다. 우리나라는 2000년 이후 세계 선박시장의 35% 이상을 차지하는 세계 1위의 조선강국이지만, 저렴한 노동력과 과감한 투자를 앞세운 중국과 미래의 선박시장에서 주도권을 탈환하기 위해 새로운 기술 및 서비스 개발에 박차를 가하는 일본과 미국 등의 추격에서 결코 안심할 수 없는 상황이다. 본 고에서는 2005년 이후 조선산업에서 조금씩 비중을 높여가고 있는 IT 기술 개발의 국내외 사례 및 조선시장에서의 기술 경쟁력을 높이기 위한 IT 기술의 역할에 대해 살펴보고 향후 발전 방향에 대해 전망해 본다.

The Characteristics of Foreign Portfolio Investment (외국인 포트폴리오 투자의 특징)

  • After the year of 2000, the Korean government has abolished the limit on foreign investments. Foreign investments in the domestic market have been thriving since. In domestic stock market, the proportion of market value held by foreign investors reaches over 40%. There are many followers in the markets, asking about what kinds of the firm that foreign investors prefer. Prior researches show that foreign investors in the American and European markets prefer stocks of the firm which are well known and are geographically closer. In this paper, we attempt to define the financial characteristics of the firms in which foreigners invest in the Korean market. The result shows that foreign investors in the domestic market tend to prefer firms with high market value of capital and dividend yield. It also shows that foreign investors in the Korean market choose firms with high book value to market value over others, while the firms with high debt ratio and the portion of the largest stock holders are shunned. This research suggests that foreign portfolio investments in the Korean market have contributed to liquidity of stock market and changed the governance structure of domestic firms in a positive way.

A Study on the Investment Effectiveness of Oak-Mushroom Cultivation (표고재배(栽培)의 투자효과(投資効果)에 관한 연구(研究))

  • The oak-mushroom is one of the special minor products utilizing hardwoods, such as oaks in the mountaineous villages, as a food for health and export in Korea. However, oak-mushroom farmers have been faced the problems such as small cultivation scale, unskilled technique of production, management of cultivation, and low productivity. It is now a turning point presenting the optimum and reasonable management techniques to increase the productivity with consideration of balanced income and expenditure. This report analyzed the investment effectiveness of cultivation. The financial rate of return (FRR) of oak-mushroom cultivation is as high as 10.3 percent compared with that of other farmings. Moreover, the FRR remarkably increased with increased cultivation scales. The FRR could be highly improved if the price of both mushroom-logs and dried mushroom products, is stable and the cultivation techniques for higher productivity are developed. The policy providing the constant price of raw materials and mushroom products, and new advanced cultivation techniques enable the enhancement of investment for the oak-mushroom cultivation.

Economic Analysis of Upgrading Low Rank Coal Process (저등급석탄 고품위화 공정의 경제성 분석)

  • Fry-drying of coal slurry is one of the upgrading low rank coal processes. It consists of slurry mixing, slurry dewatering, solvent recovery and briquetting. Cost estimation and economic feasibility are examined for the upgrading low rank coal process based on capacity of 1 million ton/yr. In case that investment costs are $100,000,000, discount rate is 12%, and service life is 20 years, the results of economic analysis are enough to satisfy the evaluation criteria of investment such as IRR, B/C ratio, NPV and discounted payback period. According to sensitivity analysis, investment value are very sensitive to raw material cost and product price. Since the bituminous coal price is currently soaring, it is expected that the investment value will increase more and more.

  • 정보화발전과 함께 정보시스템의 투자규모가 확대되고 무분별한 점보시스템의 구축으로 인해 체계적인 정보화 투자 및 관리가 필요하게 되었다. 이로 인해 ITA의 도입 및 활용이 의무화되었다. 더불어 ITA의 지속적인 발전 및 고도화방향 설정을 할 수 있도록 하기 위한 도구로 성숙도 모델이 각각 정보통신부와 행정자치부에서 개발되었다. 2종의 상이한 성숙도 모델로 인해 개별기관에서 적용에 어려움을 겪고 있으며, 성숙도수준에 대한 서로 다른 측정결과가 도출되는 문제가 발생하였다. 본 논문에서는 2개의 상이한 모델의 장점을 통합하고 국내관점들 적극적으로 적용하는 등 문제점들 개선한 단일 성숙도모델인 범정부 ITA 성숙도모델을 제안한다. 또한 개별기관의 성숙도 수준들 단일 성숙도모델로 측정하여 ITA 수행 및 활용 능력을 파악하고 문제점을 사전에 발견하여 향후 범정부 차원의 지원방향을 결정하는 등 많은 효용성을 기대한다.

GHG Reduction Effect through Smart Tolling: Lotte Data Communication Company (스마트톨링을 통한 온실가스 저감효과: 롯데정보통신 사례를 중심으로)

  • Intelligent transportation systems are one of the most important new forms of infrastructure on domestic roads, and is a system that makes possible the most efficient movement of vehicles on a road. The High Pass system, which is a domestic intelligent transportation system, started a little later than in other countries but developed at a rapid pace. With the recent introduction of smart tolling technology, it provided an opportunity to stop and review the tolling system. This study aims to investigate the driving method and results of LDCC for domestic smart towing through case study. Unlike other companies, Lotte Data Communication Company has long invested in payment systems. It has little experience investing in infrastructure, but participated in the Smart Toll System at the Gwangan Bridge in cooperation with the Busan City government, to lead the development of intelligent transportation systems. LDCC, which has made new investments, not only exceeded its existing core competencies, but also upgraded Korea's tolling system's ability to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improved its financial performance.
