  • Computer education in universities has been expanded and specialized from ICT-based education in recent years to software education such as computational thinking and programming. Especially, as the 4th Industrial Revolution is emphasized in all fields of society, software education, which is its core, is being applied as an essential liberal arts course in universities. In the case of basic SW education for all students, it is necessary to provide differentiated education that is suitable for students because their special characteristics are different. In this study, we conducted a basic SW course for general liberal arts at A-university in Seoul and analyzed the survey data from 4,927 students for about 3 years, and classified the major series and searched the appropriate education method for each subdivided group. Through the analysis, we were able to find characteristic groups such as business and commerce, art and sports major. Finally, six groups for basic-SW education are presented. Educational directions such as programming language and level of difficulty setting suitable for differentiated education are presented for each group.

And it researches the relation of the learning outcome of general education and course assessment. Most of engineering colleges usually operate core curriculum. They provided engineering students few specific general education courses if anything. Engineering students evaluated the outcome of the general education courses less than major courses. It is necessary to develop new general education courses for engineer like as the management for engineering students or leadership program Also the faculties teaching the general education courses need to develop new learning method and materials, which help students to achieve soft skills.

  • The ability to use software is an essential competency in modern society. As a result, programming education is conducted from elementary school to university. In case of programming education for non-majors conducted in the liberal arts at universities, if it is conducted online using high-quality contents, problems such as the shortage of professional professor and the limitation of practice time can be solved. Also, it has the advantage of providing students with enough time to think and solve problems. In this paper, the possibility of online lectures was investigated through a survey before and after lectures in software liberal arts courses conducted online. From the results of the survey, it is judged that the goal of software education can be achieved even if software lectures are conducted online, which is to improve computational thinking and problem-solving skills.

  • Recently, there is an increasing number of universities in which SW education is operated as a liberal arts education regardless of major. In this paper, the survey is conducted to analysis the factors affecting the non-majors students' perception of the necessity of SW education through a case study of SW liberal arts by gender, college, and SW learning experience. As a result, men, students of social science college, and students with SW learning experience strongly agreed that SW education for non-majors is essential. 'SW education is very helpful in studying my major' was analyzed as a necessary condition of SW education for non-majors. Especially, the difficulty of SW learning did not affect the recognition of the necessity of non-majors SW education. If the SW liberal education is based on the SW technology that helps their major, it will be expected that the improved learning motivation due to majors-relevance will deepen a consensus on SW education.

  • In this paper, a novel-engineering-based artificial intelligence liberal arts course is proposed and its effectiveness is evaluated with an emphasis on creativity confluence competency for elementary and middle school pre-service teachers in various majors. Constructing directions such as "considering the characteristics of non-major learners" and "drawing convergence with majors" were derived by analyzing related prior research, and its relationship with Novel Engineering was presented as an appropriate educational method. As a result of 45 hours of artificial intelligence education convergence liberal arts course, a statistically significant improvement in creativity confluence competency and high satisfaction were established. This study is significant because it supported the idea that novel engineering might be used as a pre-service teacher education strategy for artificial intelligence convergence education.

Therefore, Korean universities have actively developed and operated classes related to artificial intelligence, and have emphasized the importance of artificial intelligence not only in major education but also in liberal arts education. However, there is a lack of research on the development of educational methods and educational programs because artificial intelligence education in liberal arts is in its early stages. SSI is an education that can apply social and ethical problems related to science to open problems that can creatively and reasonably present solutions. SSI can be applied to make AI education more effective. In this study, an artificial intelligence liberal arts curriculum applied SSI was developed with three purposes: First, it is designed is designed so that students subject to education can access it by considering its characteristics as actors of the intelligent information society. Second, it is designed so that students can experience artificial intelligence programs themselves and deal with science technology and social relevance in depth, focusing on various examples of real life. Third, it is designed and approached so that students can participate and cooperate for the purpose of solving common problems to develop cooperative problem-solving skills.

The reason for this is that most international students enter university but they are lack of liberal arts knowledge such as Korean language skills and foundation studies necessary for their major studies. However, most universities focus on teaching Korean language as a liberal arts course for international students. Therefore It suggests that the most important and urgent required is for international students to improve their liberal arts knowledge as well as their Korean language skills. Furthermore, this paper argues order for international students who do not have enough liberal arts such as Korean language proficiency or basic science to study successfully, a systematic liberal arts curriculum and teaching methods for international students should be presented and applied in the field. Accordingly, this paper shows an example of the class operated by applying the knowledge-based Korean language teaching method to the cultural class, which is a dedicated subjects for international students, and proved its effectiveness.

  • The purpose of this study is to illustrate Richard Henry Tawney's idea of adult education among traditions of workers' education movement. The workers' education movement can be categorized into two streams. One tradition regards as the workers' education as a part of liberal education. The other tradition regards as it as a tool for social transformation. The former, which emphasizes the importance of liberal education in workers' education, had been developed in connection with the University Extension in England, and had a practical influence through the 'Workers' Educational Association(WEA)' organized by Mansbridge and other intellectuals. The latter, which emphasizes the social transformational function of education, conducted education in a form that is not clearly distinguished from propaganda, through the 'National Council of Labour College(NCLC)'. Tawney demonstrates the idea of adult education that synthesizes these two traditions, and this synthesization is related to his idea on equality. Tawney pursued socialism through democratic and non-violent way. He thought that adult education could contribute to the construction of socialism while at the same time conducting adult education based on liberal education. In other words, adult education based on liberal education, through rational understanding and discussion of the world, can contribute to social transformation. Tawney's idea of adult education provides practical implications for educationalists and educators who want progressive social change, and theoretically enriches educational research on the relationship between social transformation and education.
