Enhancement of Quality Assurance System for Improving the Quality of Suppliers' Product (공급자 부품품질 향상을 위한 품질보증시스템 개선방안)

  • A prerequisite for improving the quality of a product is to enhance the quality of its parts supplied from outsourced enterprises. An enterprise certified by ISO 9001 Quality Management System is expected to develop their effective quality assurance system and maintain it through continuous control and improvement, thereby ensuring the good quality of products that they produce. However, it is reported that small and medium-sized enterprises certified by ISO 9001 have difficulty establishing an effective quality assurance system. This study aims to propose a new method of improving a quality assurance system that can be more effective in small and medium-sized enterprises. This study collectively considered requirements specified in several international standards on quality system and the results of expert group brainstorming to identify evaluation areas and items for assessing a quality assurance system. Based on these evaluation areas and items, a set of checklists for diagnosing and improving a quality assurance system was developed. In order to demonstrate the usefulness of the proposed method, this study applied it to ten small and medium-sized enterprises and could identify four approaches for improving their current quality assurance system. The presented improvement method, which consists of establishment of quality goals and quality innovation plan, defective products corrective activities, 4M and design change process, improvement of customer quality information management, is expected to be utilized as a useful tool for the enhancement of the quality assurance system of small and medium-sized enterprises.

A Study on Certification Activities on Aerospace Quality Management System (항공 품질경영시스템 인증활동에 관한 연구)

  • The AS9100 aerospace standard has become the aerospace quality management system standard instead of ISO9001 and MIL-Q-9858A by international aerospace manufacturing companies. The organization which adopts AS9100 standard is to be certified by an independent third party certification body as IAQG requests. The quality management system certification assessor shall utilize the AS9101 standard prepared by IAQG to assess AS9100 organization. In this paper, AS9101 quality system questionnaire is analyzed and scoring method which characterizes AS9101 is reviewed. Score attained can be utilized as an organizational quality index. Practical data gathered by certified assessors from 2002 to 2007 are analyzed and suggested to improve the organization's system operational efficiency based on the analysis results. Suggestions can be utilized by any organization to prepare assessment or to enhance the level of quality system maturity. This study is applicable to the future as well as present aerospace manufacturing activities throughout the world.

  • 오랫동안 많은 이들에게 지속적인 사랑을 받아온 제품을 열거하기란 생각보다 쉽지 않다. 산업구조의 급변에 따라 일상생활에도 많은 변화가 찾아오기 때문이다. 각종 전자제품에서 '스마트'란 수식어가 붙은 것이 얼마 되지 않았다는 것이 대표적인 예라고 할 수 있다. 하지만 이런 중에도 소비자들이 꾸준하게 애용하는 제품이 있다. 도브, 럭스, 폰즈, 바세린, 립톤 등이 바로 그것이다. 이러한 제품을 생산 판매하는 기업이 오늘의 주인공인 유니레버코리아(주)다. 1985년 합작회사로 국내에 처음 진출한 유니레버코리아(주)는 1993년 도약의 기틀을 마련하게 된다. 세계적 수준의 생산설비를 갖춘 대전공장을 설립하게 된 것이다. 이후 이곳에서는 샴푸류, 비누류, 화장품을 비롯한 생활용품과 아이스티 식품류를 제조해 나가면서 한국시장 진출에 성공하게 된다. 그야말로 기업 성장의 선봉장 역할을 톡톡히 수행한 것이다. 그렇다면 무엇이 이런 힘을 이끌어 냈을까. 유니레버코리아(주) 대전공장 관계자들은 그 중심에 안전이 자리 잡고 있다고 강조한다. OHSAS 18001(안전보건경영시스템), ISO 14001(환경경영시스템), ISO 9002(품질경영시스템) 인증 취득을 통해 관리체계를 확고히 한 가운데 경영진들의 높은 안전의식을 바탕으로 빈틈없는 안전관리를 해나갔다는 것이다. 이를 통해 근로자의 안전을 확보하면서 소비자들에게 사랑받는 제품을 생산했다는 설명이다. 구체적으로 이곳 안전관리가 어떻게 펼쳐지고 있는지 찾아가 봤다.

The improvement of Quality of Observed Values II ${\sim}$Detection Limit${\sim}$

  • Needless to say, the importance of the quality of observed values shall be emphasized in the field of 'TQM', because, the first step of 'TQM' should be some data - observed values. Usually, meaning of the quality of observed values should be, a) accuracy (trueness and precision), b) detection limit, c) cost and so on. However, the authors will describe mainly on b), in this paper. The definitions of technical terms related to 'Detection Limit' are defined in ISO l1843-1 Capability of detection - Part1:Terms and definitions (1998). The most important terms extracted from the above standard are shown in the following table. The application of the 'Detection Limit' to the actual measurement is discussed in this paper.

  • TQC, the features of Japanese QC (JQC), is forced to change now. There are many problems related to QC field, such as magnification of quality objects, social quality, thoroughness of CS, enforcement of PL law, applications of ISO standards concerning the QA system and the environmental management system, and still more recent American industrial tendency which attaches importance to TQM and so forth. Qn the occasion of JQC have passed for fifty years, since 1945. I would like to look back upon its QC history and discuss the meaning of the recent changes in QC concepts and the theoretical framework of its QC.

  • QS-9000 was established by Chrysler, Ford, General Motors and some Truck Manufactures to solve problems of efforts to prepare original standards for each company. When we compare the requirements in QS-9000 with those in ISO 9000, we may observe that those of QS-9000 are more specific, since the user of the standard is limited to the automobile industry. In particular, the requirements on statistical techniques are described in more detail. In this paper, we present the requirements on statistical techniques in QS-9000. Specifically, we review the contents of QS-9000 and explore the philosophy and the minimum requirement on statistical techniques behind the description.

The efficiency evaluation for TQM activities

  • In this paper, we analyzed two methodologies to evaluate the total quality management activities comparatively. One of them is the traditional scoring system (TSS) by analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and the other is the efficiency measuring system (EMS) by data envelop analysis (DEA), It is demonstrated that the index by TSS and the efficiency index by EMS are not correlated. Also, the efficiency index by EMS in terms of company characteristics such as the size of company and ISO certifications is different from the index by TSS. The result implies that to evaluate the quality activities by EMS is needed as a supplementory methodology.

Development of R&D Standard Processes for E Research Institute (연구개발 표준 프로세스의 개발­E 연구원의 사례를 중심으로­)

  • With the rapid change in today's R&D environment and the enlargement of the expected quality level for R&D outcomes, it has become increasingly necessary to effectively define the R&D standard processes tailored for our organization and projects. To meet this needs, we defined the R&D standard processes based on the standards for systems and software engineering and our traditional work methods and applied them to our ongoing projects. We will improve our defined R&D standard processes continuously by monitoring of the processes and the feedback of the application results. In this paper, we introduce the R&D standard processes developed by E Research Institute and the requirements and approaches used for their development. We compare our defined R&D standard processes with ISO/IEC 15288 which is the first international standard for systems engineering.

Development of Compliance Collaboration Index for Trade Supply Chain (무역공급망 법규준수 협력지수 개발)

  • This paper proposes the compliance collaboration index(CCI) which can be useful to measure the level of supply chain's compliance collaboration quantitatively. It can be shown that the proposed index is quite flexible when applied in real situations at the request of the index user. For instance, even if only one company of many companies in trade supply chain to be tested through the AEO certification test is not satisfied the required specification. the index is designed in such a way that the score can't be higher than a certain predetermined value. The proposed CCI can be used as the guidance for a trade company's collaboration process control strategy to increase the efficiency of compliance improvement activity. In this paper, we use the Analysis Hierarchy Process(AHP) which is one of the methods recommended by ISO/ICE as a measurement of weight to be assigned to the relevant parameters considered in the CCI.

  • In accordance with the growing importance of software in computer systems, software quality and performance has become a hot issue in all computer-related fields and businesses. But the measurement and evaluation of software quality still poses a problem, due to the different viewpoints of software developers and users. This study attempts to combine the external characteristics of quality representing the viewpoint of users, and the internal characteristics representing the viewpoint of developers of quality. In order to do this, this study provides multiple models which select the appropriate internal characteristics which reflect user requirements from earlier phases of development. The goal of this study is to enhance the applicability of 40 internal characteristics of ISO 9126 to the models.
