The duration of raising seedling of infant rice seedling(IRS) in machine transplanting is 8 to 10 days. This experiment was conducted to investigate the minimum duration of IRS's raising seedling and its method by the combination of several treatments such as plant growth regulator, root-break-seat and temperature. The rice seeds of Hwaseongbyeo was soaked in the solution of metalaxyl for 24 hours at room temperature. Metalaxyl (25% wettable powder), a fungicide, was used in 1, 000 times dilution as a promting substance on the root-mat formation of IRS. The application of fungicide in the nursery soil for the controlling of damping-off and physiologyical seedling rot was omitted due to the metalaxyl seed-soaking treatment. Seeding rate was 220g per seed tray (30$\times$60$\times$3cm). To promote the root-mat formation of IRS, the sheets of polyethylene vinyl and absorptive paper were placed bottom the seed tray. The root-mat formation of IRS was promoted at higher temperature and longer duration of raising seedling. The metalaxyl-treated seeds markedly increased the root length and rooting activity of IRS as compared with the control, thus the root-mat formation was excellent. The absorptive paper with polyethylene vinyl as root-break-seat showed a better root-mat formation compared with control, polyethylene vinyl, alone. The minimum duration of raising seedling of IRS was 5 days after sowing based on the root-mat formation and seedling height under the condition of metalaxyl seed treatment, absorptive paper with polyethylene vinyl as a root-break-seat and the raising seedling temperature 30/2$0^{\circ}C$ (day /night).
The main object of this study was to prove the effectiveness of different merging methods by using the high resolution IRS(Indian Remote Sensing Satellite)-1C panchromatic data and the multispectral Landsat TM data. The five methods used to merging the information contents of each of the satellite data were the intensity-hue-saturation(IHS), principal component analysis(PCA), high pass filter(HPF), ratio enhancement method and look-up-table(LUT) procedures. Two measures are used to evaluate the merging method. These measures include visual inspection and comparisons of the mean, standard deviation and root mean square error between merged image and original image data values of each band. The ratio enhancement method was well preserved the spectral characteristics of the data. From visual inspection, PCA method provide the best result, HPF next, ratio enhancement, IHS and LUT method the worst for the preservation of spatial resolution.
Baicalin has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-diabetic properties. IL-6 is a primary proinflammatory cytokine that contributes to impaired insulin signaling in liver. This study was carried out to investigate whether baicalin improves IL-6-mediated insulin resistance in liver. Hepa-1c1c7 cells were pre-treated with 50 and 100 ${\mu}M$ baicalin in complete media for 1 h and then cultured in the presence or absence of IL-6 (20 ng/ml). These results demonstrated that baicalin restored IL-6-suppressed expression of insulin receptor substrate (IRS)-1 protein, downregulated IL-6-increased gene expression of C-reactive protein (CRP) and suppressor of cytokine signaling (SOCS)-3, and inhibited LPS-induced production of IL-6 in Hepa-1c1c7 cells. These findings indicate that baicalin may ameliorate hepatic insulin resistance via improvement of IL-6-mediated impaired insulin signaling in hepatocytes.
Hesperidin (HES) is a bioflavonoid with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-diabetic properties. IL-6 is well known as a primary proinflammatory cytokine that contributes to impaired insulin signaling in liver. This study was to investigate whether HES improves IL-6-mediated impairment of insulin sensitivity in liver. Hepa-1c1c7 cells were pre-treated with 50 and $100{\mu}M$ HES in complete media for 1 h and then cultured in the presence or absence of IL-6 (20 ng/ml). These results demonstrated that HES restored IL-6-suppressed expression of IRS-1 protein, downregulated IL-6-increased expression of CRP and SOCS-3 mRNA, and inhibited LPS-induced production of IL-6 in Hepa-1c1c7 cells. These findings indicate that HES may ameliorate hepatic insulin resistance via improvement of IL-6-mediated impaired insulin signaling in hepatocytes.
We present various observational results toward a small group of Young Stellar Objects (YSOs), L1251C. Observations by Spitzer Space Telescope legacy program "From Molecular Cores to Planet Forming Disks" (c2d; Evans et al. 2003) revealed that there are three YSOs within ~15" in L1251C: IRS1 (Class I), IRS2 (Class II), and IRS3 (Class II). In order to understand the molecular environment around these YSOs, we carried out the KVN single-dish observations in $HCO^+$ J=1-0, $H^{13}CO^+$ J=1-0, $N_2H^+$ J=1-0 and HCN J=1-0. $^{12}CO$ J=1-0 was also mapped in L1251C with the TRAO 14m telescope. Integrated intensity maps of high density tracers such as $H^{13}CO^+$ J=1-0, $N_2H^+$ J=1-0 and HCN J=1-0 show similar emission distributions, whose peaks are off the positions of YSOs. A compact $HCO^+$ J=1-0 outflow and an extended $^{12}CO$ J=1-0 outflow were observed, but their outflow axes are not cosistent ($HCO^+$: NW-SE, $^{12}CO$: EW). However, the highest velocity component of the $^{12}CO$ J=1-0 outflow shows similar morphology to the $HCO^+$ J=1-0 outflow, and ~ 23 % of $^{12}CO$ outflow momentum flux is loaded onto this high velocity component. Furthermore, continuum emission has been observed at 350, 450, 850 ${\mu}m$, and 1.3mm. With the KVN single dish, the 22 GHz $H_2O$ maser emission has been also monitored toward L1251C to find variations of the systemic velocity and intensity with time.
We present molecular line observations of a small group of Young Stellar Objects (YSOs), L1251C. Observations by Spitzer Space Telescope legacy program "From Molecular Cores to Planet Forming Disks"(c2d; Evans et al. 2003) revealed that there are three YSOs within ~15" in L1251C: IRS1 (Class I), IRS2 (Class II), and IRS3 (Class II). CO J=1-0 was also mapped in L1251C with the TRAO 14m telescope. Integrated intensity maps of high density tracers such as $H^{13}CO^+$ J=1-0, $N_2H^+$ J=1-0 and HCN J=1-0 show similar emission distributions, whose peaks are off from the positions of YSOs. However, $HCO^+$ J=1-0, which is believed to trace both infall and outflow, presents its emission distribution different from those of other molecular transitions. The line profile of $HCO^+$ J=1-0 is superimposed by two velocity (narrow and broad) components. The $HCO^+$ outflow map reveals multiple structures while the CO outflow map elongates mainly along the EW direction. With the KVN single dish, the 22 GHz $H_2O$ maser emission has been also monitored toward L1251C to find variations of the systemic velocity and intensity with time.
BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: The anti-diabetic activity of pear through inhibition of ${\alpha}-glucosidase$ has been demonstrated. However, little has been reported about the effect of pear on insulin signaling pathway in obesity. The aims of this study are to establish pear pomace 50% ethanol extract (PPE)-induced improvement of insulin sensitivity and characterize its action mechanism in 3T3-L1 cells and high-fat diet (HFD)-fed C57BL/6 mice. MATERIALS/METHODS: Lipid accumulation, monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1) secretion and glucose uptake were measure in 3T3-L1 cells. Mice were fed HFD (60% kcal from fat) and orally ingested PPE once daily for 8 weeks and body weight, homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR), and serum lipids were measured. The expression of proteins involved in insulin signaling pathway was evaluated by western blot assay in 3T3-L1 cells and adipose tissue of mice. RESULTS: In 3T3-L1 cells, without affecting cell viability and lipid accumulation, PPE inhibited MCP-1 secretion, improved glucose uptake, and increased protein expression of phosphorylated insulin receptor substrate 1 [p-IRS-1, ($Tyr^{632})$)], p-Akt, and glucose transporter type 4 (GLUT4). Additionally, in HFD-fed mice, PPE reduced body weight, HOMA-IR, and serum lipids including triglyceride and LDL-cholesterol. Furthermore, in adipose tissue, PPE up-regulated GLUT4 expression and expression ratio of p-IRS-1 ($Tyr^{632})/IRS$, whereas, down-regulated p-IRS-1 ($Ser^{307})/IRS$. CONCLUSIONS: Our results collectively show that PPE improves glucose uptake in 3T3-L1 cells and insulin sensitivity in mice fed a HFD through stimulation of the insulin signaling pathway. Furthermore, PPE-induced improvement of insulin sensitivity was not accompanied with lipid accumulation.

The feasibility of counting number of small vessels and position in Korean waters using the panchromatic imageries derived from the IRS-1C was tested. The parameters for interpretation of satellite's imageries of small vessels were location(position), size, shape, shadow, tone, texture and pattern, height and depth, situation and association with other vessels. The position of small vessels in the sea without GCP(ground control point) was considered to be inclusive in the satellite imagery with 35 km semi-diameter, denoting rough geographical position of the vessel. The size of vessel was measured by length from stem to stern of the vessel, distinguished by following wave on the surface water. Offshore fishing vessels were separated from merchant ships by their length smaller than 100 m. The shape of vessels on panchromatic imagery of IRS-1C appeared just streamline. In case of clouds which were similar to the shape of small vessels, we were able to distinguish between vessel and cloud by shadow of cloud in the water surface. The tone of sea surface was dark black while small vessel appeared bright white. Small vessel was distinguished from the rough texture of the sea surface and the regular pattern of the waves with white capes when weather was not so good. The situation of the fishing activity was estimated by information of fishing method related to the fishing boat such as the pair trawl in the Yellow Sea.

Hepatic lipid accumulation and insulin resistance increases in patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Piperine is a major compound found in black pepper (Piper nigrum) and long pepper (P. longum). Piperine has been used in fine chemical for its anti-cancer, anti-obesity, anti-diabetic, anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties. However, the signaling-based mechanism of piperine and its role as an inhibitor of lipogenesis and insulin resistance in human hepatocyte cells remains ill-defined. In the present study, we explored the effects of piperine on lipid accumulation and insulin resistance, and explored the potential underlying molecular mechanisms in palmitate-treated HepG2 cells. Piperine treatment resulted in a significant reduction of triglyceride content. Furthermore, piperine treatment decreased palmitate-treated intracellular lipid deposition by inhibiting the lipogenic target genes, sterol-regulatory-element-binding protein 1c (SREBP-1c) and fatty acid synthase (FAS); whereas the expression of carnitine palmitoyl transferase (CPT-1) and phosphorylation of acetyl coenzyme A carboxylase (ACC) gene involved in fatty acid oxidation was increased. Moreover, piperine also inhibited the phosphorylation of insulin receptor substrate (IRS)-1 (Ser307). Piperine treatment modulated palmitate-treated lipid accumulation and insulin resistance in HepG2 cells with concomitant reduction of lipogenic target genes, such as SREBP-1 and FAS, and induction of CPT-1-ACC and phosphorylation of IRS-1 (Tyr632)-Akt pathways. Therefore, piperine represents a promising treatment for the prevention of lipid accumulation and insulin resistance.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the action mechanism of the roots of Adenophora triphylla var. japonica extract (ATE) in 3T3-L1 adipocytes. Cell toxicity test by MTT assay and lipid accumulation was performed to evaluate the inhibitory effect on the differentiation of adipocyte from preadipocytes induced by MDI differentiation medium, while adipogenesis related proteins expression level were evaluated by western blotting. As a result, ATE inhibited MDI-induced adipocyte differentiation in 3T3-L1 cells dose-dependently without cytotoxicity. Our results showed that ATE inhibited the phosphorylation of IRS1, thereby decreasing the expression of PI3K110α and reducing the phosphorylation of AKT and mTOR, resulting in attenuated protein expression of C/EBPα, PPARγ, ap2 and FAS in 3T3-L1 cells. These results suggest anti-adipogenic functions for ATE, and identified IRS1 as a novel target for ATE in adipogenesis.
