Thermotropic behavior was observed in a number of aromatic copoly (ester amide)s containing a flexible spacer based on 4,4'$-dicarboxyalpha,\varpi-diphenoxy$ alkanes as an A component, di-acetylated p-aminophenol as a B, di-acetylated hydroquinone as a C gave the thermotropic copoly (ester amide)s containing a flexible spacer in the polymer backbone. 4,4'-diamino-3,3'-dimethoxybiphenyl as an amino group containing monomer as a D components. In the last case, up to 60 mol% of amide group was allowed to afford thermotropic liquid-crystallinity. The polymer structure and thermotropic nature were examined by solid-state and solution $^{13}C$ NMR spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimeter, polarizing microscopy, and IR spectroscopy.

After a short description of the observatory, this presentation will highlight some of the most recent scientific achievements based on CFHT observations and how they benefit from the current instrumentation and novel observing modes proposed to the CFHT users. We will then move to the mid-term future with the development of new spectroscopic capabilities (visible wide-field FTS or near-IR spectro-polarimetry) and the study of a novel wide-field imager in the visible using Ground-Layer AO to provide unprecedented image quality on a large field of view. As an option for the long-term future, the concept of a next generation 10-m class telescope to replace the current CFHT 3.6-m will be described. An emphasis will be given on how CFHT is slowly morphing into an Asia-Pacific Rim observatory and on the role the Korean community could play in such an endeavor, from immediate access to first-class astronomical data to partnering with other nations in exciting developments.

TPolystyrene thin films are prepared by glow discharge of sytrene monomer vapor th establish the growth mechanism of organic thin films by the plasma polymerization. As the discharge parameters, discharge current(5mA-20mA), frequency (10kHz-50kHz, 13.56MHz), gaspressure (0.2torr-1.5torr), and discharge time(2min-12min)are adopted. Plasma-polymerized filmsof styrene vapor are identified as polystyrene by IR spectra. The thickness of plasma-polymerized films increases with gas pressure, frequency and discharge current in the region of the low frequency and below the allowed gas pressure where the polymerization occurs. It is suggested that the growth mechanism can be explained by ionic reaction in d.c. and low frequency region, and by radical reaction in high frequency region.

AIN thin films were prepared using by Rf sputtering method on the GaAs(170) substrate and investigated by X-ray diffractometer, IR spectroscopy, n&k system. The parameters were the substrate temperature, RF power, sputtering duration and the $N_2$/Ar ratio. The AlN thin films of (101) orientation were obtained under the conditions of room temperature and the nitrogen of 60 vol.%. The crystallinity of the films, which were grown respectively under the different conditions, were determined by the comparison of the band width of an E$_1$[TO:680$cm^{-1}$ /] phonon mode. The thicknesses of AlN films were decreased dramatically in the region of the nitrogen of 40~60 vol.% according to the increment of the $N_2$/Ar ratio by which the sputter yield got lower.

국내에서 생산된 쌀 6품종의 맥주제조특성을 국내 및 미국의 맥주회사에서 사용되는 쌀로가 비교해 볼 때 국내쌀의 수분함량은 11.4∼12.6% 로 미국 맥주회사에서 사용되는 쌀의 수분함량 10.7% 보다 높았다. 장립종(long grain)이며 Indica 품종인 IR36은 전분량이 적으나 단백질 함량이나 amylose 함량이 높았다. 맥아 60%에 쌀 40%를 혼합하여 맥즙을 제조한 결과 색, 점도, pH, 수용성단백질, 추출물 함량(％ extract), 당의 조성에서 Indica 품종은 Japonica 품종과 큰 차이를 나타내지 않았다. 국내에서 생산되는 쌀로 제조된 맥즙은 수용성 단백질, pH, 점도 등에서는 미국산 쌀로 제조된 맥즙과 큰 사치를 나타내지 않았으나 추출물함량은 약간 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 쌀을 혼합하여 제조한 맥즙의 glucose 와 maltose 함량은 맥아만으로 제조된 맥즙보다 더 낮았다.

Absorbent polymer-cement composites were fabricated by the semi-powder mixing OPC(ordinary Portland cement) with an absorbent polymer. The effects of absorbent polymer on the mechanical properties and the hydration characteristics were observed and the polymer-cement interaction also discussed. Absorbent polymer-cement composites showed the value of total porosity of 8vol% the value of 28 days flexural strength was up to 280 Kgf/cm2 in the case of absorbent polymer-cement composite at 1 wt% absorbent polymer content and microstructure of absorbent polymer-cement composite has been observed more dense than that of OPC paste. Accordingly the permeability of compositewas improved and so the moisture resistance was also increased. Adding polymer did not retard the hydration of OPC. It was considered from the results of IR(infrared) analysis that the functional group of absorbent polymer would be changed from unidentate to bidentate during by the hydration of cement minerals.

We have developed novel small molecular materials for solution phosphorescent OLEDs having multilayered device structures. These novel materials are applied as an interlayer which is between a buffer layer (or hole injection layer) and an emitting layer to improve the luminance efficiency of solution green phosphorescent OLEDs. In order to form stable double layers by spincoating process, we take the advantage of solubility differences of interlayer materials and emitting materials. Using CIM3 as an interlayer, we have attained the best luminance efficiency, 36 cd/A at a given constant of 2000cd/$m^2$ in the structure of ITO/PEDOT:PSS/CIM3/CIM6:Ir(mppy)$_3$/BAlq/Alq$_3$/LiF/Al.

We present medium resolution spectra in the near-infrared (IR) band 1.4-1.8 microns at a resolving power of R = 5000-10000 of template stars in G, K, and M types with luminosity classes of III observed by the echelle spectrometer, IRCS, at the SUBARU 8.2 m telescope. Identification of lines in the template star spectra has been completed base on the reference of Arcturus spectrum. We measured equivalent width (EW) of the lines, and analyze the trends of EW through the stellar spectral types.

The Spitzer Public Legacy Survey of the UKIDSS Ultra Deep Survey (SpUDS) has been carried out with four IRAC bands and one MIPS band (24um). SpUDS surveys 1 square degree of the UDS field, that has been covered by one of the deepest near IR surveys and by various multiwavelength observations from X-ray to radio (XMM, GALEX, Subaru, SCUBA, VLA). We present a summary of the photometric data including number counts derived at 3.6-24 microns. In conjunction with extensive multiwavelengh data, we are able to show the multiwavelenght color distribution of MIR sources, and how different SED types contribute to the number counts.

We present wide-field near-IR imaging polarimetry of 30 Doradus in the Large Magellanic Cloud, using the InfraRed Survey Facility (IRSF). We obtained polarimetry data in J, H, and Ks bands using the JHKs-simultaneous imaging polarimeter SIRPOL. Since many Galactic field stars along the line-of-sight to the Large Magellanic Cloud are contaminated in our data, we developed methods to identify the foreground sources using the proper motion data. We investigated polarimetric properties between the Galactic foreground stars and the stars in the LMC.
