The Development of UV-IR Combination Flame Detector (UV-IR 복합형 화재감지장치 개발)

  • All objects emit thermal radiation and this radiation is the basis of the techniques used to detect flames. The usual phenomena occurring in the initial stage of the fire are generally invisible products of a combustion and visible smoke. Liquid or gaseous materials do not undergo a smoldering stage so that fires develop very rapidly. Also, the heat generated by the initial flames is usually not sufficient to activate a heat detector. In this case the most effective criterion for automatic fire detection is the flame. According to the fire regulation of korea, the compulsory standard provided that a flame detector shall be installed in a place that the attachment height of detector is higher than 20 m, chemical plants, hangar, refinery, etc.. The results of the research and development are discriminated between a flame and other radiant emitters, developed a UV detector tube contains an inert gas which absorbs UV radiation, developed PZT pyroelectric element is based on the use of photovoltanic cell, developed IR band-pass filter that only allow a 4.3 $\mu\textrm{m}$ radiation wavelength to reach the sensors and developed UV-IR combination flame detector combined into a single detection device.

  • A readout circuit for Dual band IR detector was proposed and designed. Designed circuit provide to detector a stable diode bias and high injection efficiency using Buffered Direct Injection (BDI) input circuit. Then, amplifier in the unit cell is operated when cell is selected in order to minimize the power consumption. We could confirm through the simulation that designed circuit integrate and output simultaneously the signal generating from the dual band IR detector.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient image equipment implementation for the detector characteristics of various detectors by analyzing un-cooled thermal detector that exhibits nonlinear changes due to external temperature effects. First, we explain Thermal Electric Cooler for un-cooled detector temperature control system and Non-image correction methode for IR system. Second, we present the results of a study on an efficient control technique that can minimize the deterioration of image quality by controlling a un-cooled thermal detector without a thermal electric cooler(TEC) inside. Third, we suggest Image Correction Methods for Uncooled IR TECless Detector with Non-linear characteristics due to Temperature Change. So, we analyze and present the results of Image correction methods for various un-cooled thermal detector.

  • A flame detector responds either to radiant energy visible to the human eye or outside the range of human vision. Such a detector is sensitive to glowing embers, coals, or flames which radiate energy of sufficient intensity and spectral quality to actuate the alarm. An infra-red detectors can respond to the total IR component of the flame alone or in combination with flame flicker in the frequency range of 5 to 30 Hz. A major problem in the use of infrared detectors receiving total IR radiation is the possible interference of solar radiation in the infrared region. When detectors are located in places shielded from the sun, such as vaults. filtering or shielding the unit from the sun's rays is unnecessary. In this study, we proposed method for redue a false alarm with using filtering & sensor technology for distinguish of causes of raise a false alarm and pure flame.

  • In this paper presents a CMOS RF receiver for IR-UWB wireless communications is presented. The impulse radio based UWB receiver adopts the non-coherent demodulation that simplifies the receiver architecture and reduces power consumption. The IR-UWB receiver consists of LNA, envelop detector, VGA, and comparator and the receiver including envelope detector, VGA, and comparator is fabricated on a single chip using $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS technology. The measured sensitivity of IR-UWB receiver is down to -70 dBm and the BER $10^{-3}$, respectively at data rate 1 Mbps. The current consumption of IR-UWB receiver except external LNA is 5 mA at 1.8 V.

  • A three dimensional feed horn 10${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ wavelength infrared antenna has been suggested, fabricated and characterized. It was applied to an infrared detector for efficient collecting of IR radiation and for reducing background noise. The horn antenna size was designed for maximum antenna directivity. The 3D feed horn antenna mold was fabricated using rotating and tilted illumination while the antenna plate was constructed by way of electroplating. Antenna characteristics were measured by coupling with a microbolometer. Measurement results indicated that the directivity of the antenna is 16.1㏈ and the background noise is reduced by approximately two times.

Development of Real-Time Thickness Measuring System for Insulated Pipeline Using Gamma-ray (감마선을 이용한 단열배관의 실시간 두께측정시스템 개발)

  • By this study, on-line real-time radiometric system was developed using a 64 channels linear array of solid state detectors to measure wall thickness of insulated piping system. This system uses an Ir-192 as a gamma ray source and detector is composed of BGO scintillator and photodiode. Ir-192 gamma ray source and linear detector array mounted on a computer controlled robotic crawler. The Ir-192 gamma ray source is located on one side of the piping components and the detector array on the other side. The individual detectors of the detector array measure the intensity of the gamma rays after passing through the walls and the insulation of the piping component under measurement. The output of the detector array is amplified by amplifier and transmitted to the computer through cable. This system collects and analyses the data from the detector array in real-time as the crawler travels over the piping system. The maximum measurable length of pipe is 120cm/min. in the case of 1mm scanning interval.

  • The intensity of x-ray or gamma-ray is attenuated according to density and thickness of the transmitted medium. A Study on IR Spectrum Characteristics of $PbTiO_3$ Thin Film and Pyroelectric Detector Modeling. ($PbTiO_3$ 박막의 적외선 스펙트럼특성과 초전감지소자의 모델링에 관한 연구)

  • $PbTiO_3$ thin film is prepared by rf sputtering method to implement the pyroelectric infrared detector at room temperature. Annealing of $PbTiO_3$ thin film is done from $400^{\circ}C$ to $550^{\circ}C$ each for 2 hours in furnace. The spectral response to recrystallization process of $PbTiO_3$ thin film is measured by IR photospectro meter. Pyroelectric detector Modeling is studied for implementing device using electrical equivalent circuit model. It is found that $PbTiO_3$ thin film has two IR absorption band within $1000-400\;cm^{-1}$ (10um-25um) and it's spectral response is improved as annealing temperature increase. As a result of pyroelectric detector modeling, we find the possibility of implementing optimum device structure.
