A new series of bis acetylated hybrid pyrazoles were synthesized and characterized by their melting point, elemental analysis, MS, FT-IR, one-dimensional $^1H$, and $^{13}C$ NMR spectroscopic data. All the synthesized compounds were tested for their in vitro antifungal activities against Candida sp. namely Candida albicans, Candida glabrata, Candida parapsilosis, Candida dubliniensis and Candida tropicalis. A close inspection of the in vitro anticandidal activity profile in differently electron donating ($CH_3$ and $OCH_3$) and electron withdrawing (-F, -Cl, and Br) functional group substituted phenyl rings of novel hybrid pyrazoles exerted strong anticandidal activity against all the tested Candida species.

Three sesquiterpene ortho-naphthoquinones were isolated from the methanolic extract of root bark of Ulmus davidiana Planch whose stem and root bark have been used as an oriental medicine for the treatment of edema, mastitis, gastric cancer and inflammation. The structures of these compounds were established on the basis of spectral data obtained from UV-vis, IR, HR-EIMS and NMR spectrometry, including the pulse field gradient (PFG)-HMQC and HMBC techniques. Their structures were determined as 2,3-dihydro-3,6,9-trimethylnaphtho(1,8-b,c)pyran-7,8-dione, 3,6,9-trimethylnaphtho(1,8-b,c)pyran-7,8-dione and 2,3-dihydro-4-hedroxy-3,6, 9-trimethylnaphtho(1,8-b,c)pyran-7,8-dione, which were identified as mansonones E. F and H, respectively. These compounds have originally been isolated from Mansonia altissima Chev, but have never been isolated from Ulmus davidiana Planch. Especially, mansonone H was isolated for the first time from Ulmaceae. The mismatched carbon chemical shifts of mansonones E and F in the reported literature were corrected by the aid of the PFG-HMBC spectral data.
2-Arylidenehydrazinyl-4-arylthiazole derivatives (9a-f) were prepared by the in situ formation of ${\beta}$-cyclodextrin complex of 2,4'-dibromoacetophenone (8) in water followed by the addition of arylidenethiosemicarbazones (7a-f) in 70~88% yield. The structures of the compounds 9a-f were elucidated by IR and $^1H-NMR$ spectral data. The role of ${\beta}$-cyclodextrin appears to activate the compound 7 and 8 and promote the reaction to complete in reduced reaction time.
A relation between antimicrobial activities and the formation constants of solid complexes of Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II), Mn(II) and Fe(III) with tridentate Schiff base ligand, 4-hydroxy-3(1-{2-(benzylideneamino)-phenylimino}-ethyl)-6-methyl-2Hpyran-2-one (HL) derived from o-phenylene diamines, dehydroacetic acid (DHA) and p-chloro benzaldehyde have been studied. The ligand and metal complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, conductivity, magnetic susceptibility, thermal analysis, X-ray diffraction, IR, $^1H$-NMR, UV-vis and mass spectra. From the analytical data, the stiochiometry of the complexes was found to be 1:2 (metal:ligand) with octahedral geometry. The molar conductance values suggest the nonelectrolytic nature of metal complexes. The X-ray diffraction data suggests monoclinic crystal system for Ni(II) and orthorhombic crystal system for Cu(II) and Co(II) complexes. The IR spectral data suggest that the ligand behaves as tridentate ligand with ONN donor atoms sequence towards central metal ion. Thermal behavior (TG/DTA) and kinetic parameters calculated by Coats-Redfern method suggests more ordered activated state in complex formation. The protonation constants of the complexes were determined potentiometrically in THF:water (60:40) medium at $25^{\circ}C$ and ionic strength ${\mu}=0.1\;M$ ($NaClO_4$). Antibacterial activities in vitro were performed against Staphylococcus aureu and Escherichia coli. Antifungal activities were studied against Aspergillus Niger and Trichoderma. The effect of the metal ions and stabilities of complexes on antimicrobial activities are discussed.

Humic substances HS) from process waters at advanced water treatment plant consisted of GAC and Ozone/GAC processes were isolated and extracted by physicochemical fractionation methods to investigate their characteristics. They are characterized for their functionality, chemical composition, spectroscopic characteristics using FT-IR and $^1H$-NMR spectroscopy. Humic fraction gradually decreased from 36.3% to 24.2% from 0.45 to 0.30 mgC/L) through ozonation and carbon adsorption. The humic fraction was isolated into the phenolic and carboxylic groups using A-21 resin, and the concentration of phenolic groups gradually decreased from 38.4% to 23.5% (from 4.9 to $3.2\;{\mu}M/L$ as phenolic-OH) through ozonation and carbon adsorption. In the case of carboxylic groups, the concentration decreased from 61.6% to 43.3% (from 7.8 to $5.8\;{\mu}M/L$ as COOH) through the water treatment processes. On the other hand, concentrations of those roups decreased from 38.4% to 24.0% and 61.6% to 44.9% through carbon adsorption without ozonation, respectively. The structural changes of HS identified from FT-IR and $^1H$-NMR were consistent with the results from the isolation of functional groups in HS.

New complexes cis-[$Mo_2O_5(Hapdhba)_2$], trans-[$UO_2(Hapdhba)_2$], [Pd(Hapdhba)Cl($H_2O$)], [Pd(bpy)(Hapdhba)]Cl, [Ag(bpy)(Hapdhba)], [$Ru(Hapdhba)_2(H_2O)_2$], [$Rh(Hapdhba)_2Cl(H_2O)$] and [Au(Hapdhba)$Cl_2$] are reported, where $H_2$apdhba is the Schiff-base derived from 2-aminopyrimidine and 2,4-dihydroxy benzaldehyde. The complexes were characterized by IR, electronic, $^1H$ NMR and mass spectra, conductivity, magnetic and thermal measurements. The inhibitive effect of $H_2$apdhba for the corrosion of copper in 0.5 M HCl was also determined by potentiodynamic polarization measurements.
The solid complexes of La(III), Ce(III), Pr(III), Nd(III), Sm(III) and Gd(III) with 4-hydroxy-3-(1-{2-(2,4-dihydroxy-benzylidene)-amino phenylimino}-ethyl)-6-methyl-pyran-2-one ($H_2$L) derived from o-phenylenediamine, 3-acetyl-6-methyl-(2H)pyran,2,4(3H)-dione (dehydroacetic acid or DHA) and 2, 4-dihydroxy benzaldehyde have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, conductometry, magnetic susceptibility, UV-visible, FT-IR, $^1H$-NMR, X-ray diffraction, thermal analysis study, and screened for antimicrobial activity. The FT-IR spectral data suggest that the ligand behaves as a dibasic tetradentate ligand with ONNO donor atoms sequence towards central metal ion. From the microanalytical data, the stoichiometry of the complexes has been found to be 1:1 (metal: ligand). The physico-chemical data suggests distorted octahedral geometry for La(III), Ce(III), Pr(III), Nd(III), Sm(III) and Gd(III) complexes. The X-ray diffraction data suggests monoclinic crystal system for La(III) and Ce(III) and orthorombic crystal system for Pr(III) and Nd(III) complexes. Thermal behavior (TG/DTA) of the complexes was studied and kinetic parameters were determined by Horowitz-Metzger and Coats-Redfern methods. The ligand and its metal complexes were screened for antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Bacillus Sp. and fungicidal activity against Aspergillus Niger, Trichoderma and Fusarium oxysporum.

In order to isolate antibacterial substances from the rhizome of Zingiber mioga Roscoe, the ethanol extracts was fractionated according to the activity against Bacillus subtilis, B. cereus and Staphylococcus aureus. Three antibacterial substances were isolated and purified by column chromatography and recrystallization. Compounds I and III showed activity against all the tested bacterias and compound II exhibited the activity against B. subtilis and B. cereus S. aureus. Compound I was examined antimicrobial activity against B. subtilis, B. cereus and S. aureus by optical density using Bioscreen C. Compound I showed strong growth inhibition at 10 ppm on B. subtilis and B. cereus for 72 hrs, and at 25 ppm on S. aureus. On the basis of spectrometric studies including $1^H-NMR$, ${13}^C-NMR$, DEPT, IH-lH COSY, HMQC, HMBC and IR, compounds I, II and III were identified as $(E)-8{\beta}(17)-epoxylabd-12-ene-15,16-dial\;(C_{20}H_{30}O_3,\;MW=318)$, galanolactone $(C_{20}H_{30}O_3\;MW=318)$ and galanal A $(C_{20}H_{30}O_3,\;MW=318)$, respectively. These results are the first reports on the isolation of $(E)-8{\beta}(17)-epoxylabd-12-ene-15,16-dial, galanolactone and galanal A from the rhizome of Zingiber mioga.

Polyurethanes, synthesized by polyester polyols and aliphatic or aromatic diisocyanates for a crease resist finishing agent, were prepared by two-step reactions, that is, prepolymer synthesis and chain extension. The structures of synthesized polyurethanes were confirmed by the measurement of FT-IR and $^1H$-NMR spectrometer. The number average molecular weight ($\bar{M}_n$) and the weight average molecular weight ($\bar{M}_w$) of the polyurethane with aromatic diisocyanate (MDI) were higher than those of the synthesized polyurethanes with aliphatic diisocyanate (HDI, $H_{12}MDI$). The glass transition temperatures ($T_g$) of soft segments in polyurethanes with MDI, HDI, $H_{12}MDI$ were -25,-42 and -50$^{circ}C$, respectively. In the polyurethanes obtained by two-step reaction, thermal stability and tensile strength increased with increasing hard segment contents, whereas elongation at break decreased with increasing hard segment contents.
