As the Internet Protocol TV (IPTV) service enters the broadcasting market, the competition intensifies. This paper explains the factors influencing new media subscription and their influential differences on IPTV and digital cable TV (DCTV). We use the information systems success model and gratification opportunity theory to develop our research model. We sample 621 people and collect their responses through web-based measuring software. Structural model analysis shows that the willingness to subscribe to a new broadcasting medium is influenced by three characteristics of the medium: media richness, interactivity, and video quality. Multigroup analysis reveals that motivation to use a medium partially differs between IPTV and DCTV. This research concludes that the IPTV service is not attractive enough to act as a substitute for the already existing DCTV. In addition, for the IPTV service to proliferate, its business model should be promoted with new and differentiated revenue structures and services. The managerial implications in this study help new media businesses set business goals and product functionality, and allocate resources for the continued diffusion of IPTV.

This study takes a holistic approach to understand the diffusion of IPTV services by combining the adoption-diffusion model and the use-diffusion model of innovation. IPTV service, a leading digital converged application coupling media content with telecommunications, has been recently launched commercially in Korea. We created a structural model of adoption-diffusion, using the perceived easeof-use and usefulness of TAM(Technology Acceptance Model) as mediating variables, and a structural model of use-diffusion, with the rate of use and the variety of use as mediating variables. To empirically analyze these models, non-users of IPTV were surveyed using the adoption-diffusion model to identify factors influencing their intention to subscribe to the service. Meanwhile, users of IPTV were surveyed using the use-diffusion model to determine the factors that influence their satisfaction with the service and their intention to re-use it. Under the adoption-diffusion model, we found that trialability, household innovativeness and perceived risk were the determinants of user satisfaction with IPTV, and perceived ease-of-use, the mediating factors. Under the use-diffusion model, complementarity and communication were shown to be the determinants of users' satisfaction with IPTV, and variety of use, the mediating factor. We also found that consumers' intention to re-use IPTV was strongly influenced by its relative advantage and perceived risk.

모바일 환경에서 IPTV 서비스에 대한 관심이 많이 늘어나고 있으며, 스마트폰의 대중화로 인하여 개인 단말에서 스트리밍 서비스 및 각종 콘텐츠 서비스가 활발히 시장을 형성하고 있다. 이러한 서비스는 사용자에게 제공되는 서비스의 품질을 보장하여 한다. 모바일 IPTV에서 중요시 되는 품질에는 사용자에게 제공되는 스트리밍의 품질과 끊김없는 서비스로 나눠 볼 수 있다. 서비스의 품질 개선에 대한 연구는 활발히 이뤄지고 있으나, 멀티 인터페이스를 이용한 네트워크의 끊김 현상을 방지하는 연구는 널리 이뤄지고 않는 현실이다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 사용자 모바일 단말에서 제공되는 멀티 인터페이스를 통한 서비스 품질을 보장하는 기법을 제안한다.

인터랙티브 TV 시장이 활성화됨에 따라 DCATV와 IPTV의 경쟁이 본격화되면서 사용성에 직접적인 영향을 주는 인터페이스에 대한 관심도 증대되고 있는 실정이다. 본 연구는 인터랙티브 TV의 서비스 및 인터페이스에 대한 사용자의 멘탈모델을 이해하는 것을 목적으로 진행하였다. 연구 방법은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 문헌 조사를 통해 인터랙티브 TV의 2가지 유형인 DCATV와 IPTV의 기술적 차이점과 서비스 동향을 파악하였다. 둘째, 헬로우TV, C&M, 브로드앤TV, 메가TV, 마이 엘지TV 등 인터랙티브 TV의 사례들을 비교,분석하였다. 셋째, 헬로우TV를 중심으로 사용성평가를 실시하고 그 결과를 종합.분석하였다. 이를 통해 본 연구에서는 DCATV와 IPTV의 서비스 및 인터페이스에 대한 사용자 멘탈모델이 다르다는 것을 파악할 수 있었다. 특히 실시간으로 방송되는 '케이블TV채널'과 요청에 따라 다운로드되는 'VOD'라는 두가지 서비스는 인터랙션 방식과 제공 단위에 있어서 상이하며, 따라서 개념적 혼란을 야기할 수 있다. IPTV와 달리 두가지 서비스를 함께 제공하는 DCATV에서는 대부분의 사용자들은 2가지의 멘탈모델을 병립시키지 못하고 인지적 혼란을 느끼고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 이러한 발견점은 차후 인터랙티브 TV의 인터페이스 개발시 컨셉 개발을 위한 기초 자료로 이용될 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.

뉴미디어 시대의 새로운 혁신기술로 IPTV를 들 수 있다. IPTV는 텔레비전과 인터넷이 융합된 뉴미디어로 TV기능을 가지면서도 인터넷에 접속하여 정보 검색, 게임, 영화, 홈쇼핑, 홈뱅킹 등 포털 서비스를 받을 수 있는 차세대 TV이다. 이러한 혁신기술들의 채택과 사용에 서비스 품질은 중요한 영향을 미친다. IPTV는 일반 TV와 달리 기술적 제약 때문에 서비스 품질보다 체감 품질이 더욱 중요시 된다. 체감 품질은 사용자가 본원적으로 경험하고 인지하는 품질로 최종 사용자를 대상으로 시험하고 측정하는 품질이다. 본 연구는 IPTV의 체감 품질 측정 방법론을 제안하는 것이 목적이다. 탐색적 방법을 사용하여 체감 품질에 영향을 미치는 요인을 발견하고 사용자 테스트라는 실험적 방법을 사용하여 체감 품질을 측정한다. 우리는 요인분석을 통하여 9개의 체감 품질 요인(그래픽, 화질, 정확성, 접근도구, 콘텐츠의 질, 사용성, 보안성, 성능)을 발견하였다. IPTV 서비스 제공자를 대상으로 측정한 체감 품질 점 수는 화질, 그래픽, 콘텐츠의 질을 제외하고는 전반적으로 높지 않아 개선이 요구된다.

In this paper, both various content filtering methods and technological trends are briefly reviewed. A novel method is provided for preventing the illegal copies of copyright IPTV contents from being propagated through the P2P sites and web harddisk services.

데이터방송이 가능해지면서 디지털 TV, IPTV, DMB 등을 통해 다양한 콘텐츠를 이용할 수 있게 되었지만 사용자를 만족시킬 만한 킬러 콘텐츠가 부족한 상황이다. 반면 웹의 경우 사용자 중심의 서비스를 지향하는 웹 2.0의 등장으로 콘텐츠 시장이 크게 성장하였다. 이러한 웹 2.0의 개념과 기술을 데이터방송에 접목한다면 콘텐츠 활성화에 기여할 것으로 기대된다. 본 논문에서는 데이터방송에서 웹 2.0 적용하기 위한 구체적인 예로 RSS를 활용하는 방안을 제안한다. 이에 따라 지상파 DMB 데이터방송에서 최신 정보 제공이 중요한 뉴스 등을 저작 단계에서 RSS를 이용하여 서비스를 생성하는 시스템을 개발했다. 또한 IPTV에서는 저작단계에서 RSS를 활용하는 생성 시스템뿐만 아니라 사용자가 원하는 RSS Feed를 직접 선택해서 정보를 이용할 수 있는 콘텐츠를 구현했다. 이를 통해 콘텐츠 저작과정이 간소화되고 웹의 최신 정보 제공이 용이하게 되어 사용자에게 다양한 서비스를 제공할 수 있을 것이라 기대한다.

3rd party content service is a consumer-based wide selection of contents in which IPTV provider believes will enhance the service considerably extending the variety of contents to finally provide a personalized service. Therefore, the combination of 3rd party content services and the IPTV infrastructure creates a good revenue opportunity but they need to be created. IPTV offers to create personalized channels to distribute 3rd party content service. However, the cost of $3^{rd}$ party content delivery is high when the service is provided from a faraway server. IPTV provider requires an effective strategy of replica placement to minimize the cost without a tradeoff on the performance. We propose a cluster-based strategy of replica placement to find the right balance between cost and performance. The results demonstrate the achievement of an outstanding delivery time and low cost.

최근에 광대역망을 기반으로 방송서비스를 포함하여 통방융합 서비스를 제공하는 IPTV 서비스에 대한 관심이 고조되고 있다. IPTV 서비스에 있어서 기존의 방송채널들은 킬러 애플리케이션의 하나로써 재사용되어지며 이를 위한 IPTV 미들웨어 구조에 대한 연구가 필요하다. 특히 대부분의 상용 서비스는 기존의 방송서비스에서 사용되고 있는 기술을 수정없이 사용하고자 하는 이유로 인하여 IP 환경에 비효율적인 구조를 채택하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 기존의 방송채널을 재전송함에 있어 IP 환경에 최적화 될 수 있는 기술을 제안하고자 한다.

This letter proposes a weighted scheduling mechanism for Internet protocol television (IPTV) to improve the loss performance of multicast transmission over an Ethernet passive optical network (EPON). We propose a new weight policy from the number of multicast receivers to proportionally allocate the downstream bandwidth of IPTV traffic. The proposed mechanism is used in an optical line terminal to decrease lost packets of favorite IPTV services because the lost multicast packets are proportional to the number of receivers. The total proportion of lost multicast packets is reduced by up to 73% in an EPON.
