  • Purpose: The purpose of this survey was to identify a set of performance indicators for Korean APNs (Advanced Practice Nurses). Methods: A convenience sample of 78 APNs working in 2 leading hospitals in south Korea participated in the three-round Delphi survey. In the first round, subjects were asked to propose performance indicators to evaluate the effectiveness of their practice. They rated the relevancy of each indicator during the second round. In the final round of survey, subjects rated the relevancy of indicators again in the light of second round's overall results and they also were asked to check on current and future use of indicators. Results: After 5 months of three-round Delphi survey, 60 performance indicators were identified. In regard to relevancy, the 10 highly ranked indicators were patient satisfaction, self-care ability, expertise of service, family satisfaction, nurse satisfaction, satisfaction in nursing education, advanced nursing service count, education for patient/ family, education for nurse, and compliance. Advanced nursing service count, education for patient/ family, and education for nurse are currently used as indicators by more than 70% of respondents. Conclusion: Additional research is needed to identify subsets of performance indicators for specialized areas and to determine the validity and sensitivity of indicators.

  • Integrated coastal management (ICM) requires robust indicators that gauge the 'health' of the coast in relation to environmental, social and economic activities. Biological indicators(bio-indicators) offer a signal of the biological condition in an ecosystem. Using bio-indicators as an early warning of pollution or degradation in an ecosystem can help sustain critical resources. This review examines the rationale and value of selecting species as bio-indicators of human induced changes within estuaries, using examples from both the western and southern coast. It include a range of biological parameters relating to particular species, groups of species and biological processes. The use of these indicators is critically reviewed and the presence or absence of a relevant framework for their use in Korean ICM programs is discussed.

  • Peer review is a well-known, pervasive and most reliable method for assessment of research proposals. But with the strength of peer review, it also has some various limitations and shortcomings. This study suggests the use of bibliometric indicators as a counterbalance of shortcomings and mistakes in peer review. Bibliometric indicators suggested in this study are somewhat different from the conventional ones. Bibliometric indicators with limited number of papers, use of impact factor and discrimination first and corresponding authors from co-authors may produce a more resonable indicators. In this way bibliometric indicators can be considered as complementary to a peer review.

  • This study aims at developing environmental indicators to evaluate sustainability of district unit planning in Seoul. The indicators are devised to evaluate three categories of influencing areas such as district planning area, surrounding areas of planning area, and city wide area. In order to formulate the environmental indicators, subsystems of the environment were reviewed and classified into seven sectors of the environment such as air and climate, soil, water, green space, fauna, noise, and landscape. 16 indicators were developed from the seven sectors. Weighing were given to each indicator resulting from AHP analysis of the questionnaire survey of environment and urban planning experts.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop and adapt indicators for the rural community assessment. Bearing in mind, indicators are derived from the various theoretical literature review and the efficiency of the indicators has been tested through comparing and evaluating 3 different rural communities which was selected based on their distance from Seoul. In order to assess a rural development project, the assessment indicators should include at least 5 domains of natural environment, socio-economic, quality of living environment, community characteristics, public participation, which are the basic formation of indicators of this study. Furthermore, this approach could be a ground for the environmentally friendly rural development planning.

  • The study is to develop indicators for woman famers center using focus group meeting and AHP(Analytic Hierarchy Process), which is a method to derive relative weights for each evaluation indicators. The results of this study are as follows. We determined such as the three indicators that planning establishment(seven), promotion process of work(six), performance of work(nine). We analysed the weights of this indicators by AHP. The relative weights of performance of work was 0.5269, planning establishment 0.2554 and promotion process of work marked 0.2177. It was suggested that further research should be carried out to develop more objective assessment indicators.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop safety competences, a set of behavioral indicators of each competence and measuring methods of behavioral indicators for preventing human error of nuclear power plants(NPPs). The safety competences and behavioral indicators were derived from the five steps consisted of derivation of preliminary competence items through literature review, content analysis, interview(FGI, BEI), examination of content validity and decision making of final indicators. The results showed that 13 core safety competences and 35 behavior indicators were derived finally. In addition, the methods of measuring safety competences or behavioral indicators such as Behaviorally Anchored Rating Scale (BARS), Behavior Observation Scale (BOS) were developed and suggested.

  • Developing reliable measures of the environment is important to increase our understanding of the environmental effects on walking among seniors. As a preliminary study for developing an instrument for measuring walkability of seniors' environment, the purpose of this study are to identify important assessment indicators associated with seniors' walking and to test their reliability using inter-rater and intra-rater reliability methods. A set of assessment indicators was identified through literature review, and field studies by trained raters were conducted in three senior centers located in Seongnam area in order to test reliability of the audit tool. The results indicated high percent agreement for most indicators and overall 91.6% and 86.1% of items assessed had good or medium inter-rater and intra-rater reliability, respectively. The reliable assessment indicators would provide reliable data for use in community-based audits of built environment in relation to walking among older adults. The findings showed that the indicators of aesthetics had lower reliability compare to safety, convenience, and access. Rater training with various images would improve rater agreement while reduce rater bias.

  • In this paper we develop a model for the performance evaluation of defense R&D test development projects based on analytic hierarchy process. First, evaluation indicators are collected through the related literature survey and a delphi inquiry method. Second, stepwise multiple linear regression is used for developing a hierarchical structure for analytic hierarchy process in the evaluation model, which can make the selected evaluation indicators of the hierarchical structure independent. Also we verify the effectiveness of proposed indicators of the performance evaluation by comparing with the existing evaluation indicators. The developed indicators for the performance evaluation is more reasonable and practical than the previous indicators on defense R&D test development projects.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the clinical research of Cold-Heat of pattern identification(PI) focused on quantitative indicators for general people in Korea, through the review of OASIS, KISS, DBpia, NDSL database. Ten clinical researches were analyzed in this study. These research gradually started from 2004 to 2009 but there was no research after 2010. Diagnosis of Cold-Heat PI all was done through a questionnaire, 7 or most researches had not used the intervention methods. Quantitative indicators related to the Cold-Heat PI mentioned in the selected 10 researches are seven, these indicators include heart rate variability(HRV), electroencephalogram, Yangdorak, respiratory index, electrogastrography, acoustic analysis index, western health test index. Related to the HRV were 3 researches, but correlation of significant indicators was a few levels(R=0.026-0.090). So far, studies regarding at the quantitative indicators of the prior the Cold-Heat PI were few, and the results of the study showed that low statistical precision, a lack of biological basis. Refer to the current state, in the future, we expect that research of quantitative indicators of scientific evidence-based through calculated and precise research concerning Cold-Heat PI be regarded as important in Korean Medicine.
