Ultrasonic Vibration Machining of Inconel (초음파 진동 부가에 의한 인코넬의 선삭가공)

  • Recently, the demand for advanced technology of high precision and high efficiency processing of hard materials such as inconel is increasing with progress of industrial goods. However, the machinability of inconel is very inferior to the other conventional industrial materials and the machining technology for inconel involves many problems to be solved in machining accuracy, machining efficiency, etc. Therefore it is needs to establish the machining technology. The purpose of this study is to develop an advanced ultrasonic vibration machining technology for inconel, using the 60KHz and 75KHz high frequency, amplitude about 8${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and 4${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, respectively. As the result, this new ultrasonic vibration machining is reasonable and suitable for the high efficient. accuracy machining method of inconel.

  • Most of the operating pressurized water reactors (PWRs)has chosen Inconel 600 as steam generator tubing. The long-term operation of steam generators showed that the use of this material induced localized corrosion damages. The current trend is using Inconel 690 as a tube material for the replacement steam generators. Based on the current trend, we have chosen Inconel 690 for the advanced Power Reactor 1400 (APR1400) steam generator tube material.   • Recently, super heat-resistant alloy Inconel 600 come into spotlight as the material of airplane parts but this material causes lots of problems that is, reduction of machinability and attritious wear and breakage of cutting tool during turning processing due to high temperature strength and cohesion between tool material and Inconel 600. Therefore, in this study, it was purposed to determine tool material kind and to select of proper cutting range when turning process was carried out for Inconel 600. In order to these Purpose, coated carbide tool and ceramic tool was used in this experiment and the machinability of Inconel 600 was investigated from perspective of the cutting force, chipping and wear of tool and deposition phenomenon of chip.

  • As a part of assessment of the structural material for the molten salt handling system, corrosion behavior of Inconel 718, X-750, Haynes 75 and Haynes 263 alloys in the molten salt of LiCl-Li$_2$O-O$_2$was investigated in the range of temperature; $650^{\circ}C$, time; 24~168h, $Li_2O$; 3wt%, mixed gas; Ar~10%$O_2$. In the molten salt of LiCl-$Li_2O-O_2$, the order corrosion rate was Haynes 263 < Haynes 75 < Inconel X-750 < Inconel 718. Haynes 263 alloy showed the highest corrosion resistance among the examined alloys. Corrosion products of alloys were as fellows: Haynes 75: $Cr_2O_4$, $NiFe_2O_4$, $LiNiO_2$, $Li_2NiFe_2O_4$, Inconel 718; $Cr_2O_4$, $NiFe_2O_4$, Haynes 263; $Li(Ni,Co)O_2$, $NiCr_2O_4$, $LiTiO_2$, Inconel X-750; $Cr_2O_3$, $NiFe_2O_4$,$FeNi_3$, (Al,Nb,Ti)$O_2$. Haynes 263 showed local corrosion behavior and Haynes 75, Inconel 718 and Inconel X-750 showed uniform corrosion behavior.

  • By executing corrosion experiment on Inconel 600, 690 used to material of S/G tube in domestic NPP, this paper show estimation of amount of product such as Co-58, Co-60, Cr-51, Mn-54, Fe-59 which are main exposure cause to the workers in NPP. Therefore, Making the 12 samples consisted of Inconel 600, 690, whole corrosion experiment was carried out for 60 days(each pH by 20 days). The conditions of those tests were similar or more harsh than actual conditions of domestic NPP. The Glow Discharge Spectrometer(GDS) was used for quantitative analysis of results. The results of using GDS, the Inconel 600 corrodes more than Inconel 690 at pH 7 and pH 9. However, it is observed that Inconel 690 corrodes more than Inconel 600 at pH 4. Those results is estimated that test sections had the effect of transient. The long terms of experiment is required to minimize and solve the problem.

Evaluation of Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Friction Stir Lap Jointed Inconel 600/SS 400 (겹치기 마찰교반접합된 Inconel 600/SS 400 합금의 미세조직과 기계적 특성 평가)

  • The microstructures and mechanical properties of friction stir welded lap joints of Inconel 600 and SS 400 were evaluated; friction stir welding was carried out at a tool rotation speed of 200 rpm and welding speed of 100 mm/min. Electron back-scattering diffraction and transmission electron microscopy were introduced to analyze the grain boundary characteristics and the precipitates, respectively. Application of friction stir welding was notably effective at reducing the grain size of the stir zone. As a result, the reduced average grain size of Inconel 600 ranged from $20{\mu}m$ in the base material to $8.5{\mu}m$ in the stir zone. The joint interface between Inconel 600 and SS 400 showed a sound weld without voids and cracks, and MC carbides with a size of around 50 nm were partially formed at the Inconel 600 area of lap joint interface. However, the intermetallic compounds that lead to mechanical property degradation of the welds were not formed at the joint interface. Also, a hook, along the Inconel 600 alloy from SS 400, was formed at the advancing side, which directly brought about an increase in the peel strength. In this study, we systematically discussed the evolution of microstructures and mechanical properties of the friction stir lap joint between Inconel 600 and SS 400.

  • INCONEL 718합금은 상온, 고온 및 저온환경에서 기계적 특성이 아주 우수하다. 상온에서의 모재 강도는 약 900MPa이며, 열처리 후 시효경화처리에 의해 강도가 약 1300MPa까지 증가한다. 이러한 INCONEL 718합금의 기계적 특성은 시험결과에서도 유사한 값을 나타내었고, GTAW 용접부의 상온 기계적 특성도 모재보다 우수한 강도를 나타내었다. 또한 저온에서의 기계적 특성은 모든 시험조건에서 상온보다 높은 강도를 나타내었으며, 열처리 모재시편과 용접시편은 1400MPa에 달하는 고강도를 나타내었다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 INCONEL 718합금의 저온 기계적 특성이 우수한 것을 증명하였고, 용접성 또한 모재의 특성과 같이 상온 및 저온 특성이 우수한 것을 알 수 있었다. INCONEL 718 합금과 STS 316L의 이종접합의 경우에도 $-100^{\circ}C$환경의 인장강도가 상온보다 300MPa 이상 증가하는 것을 알 수 있었다. 따라서, INCONEL 718합금은 $100^{\circ}C$이하부터 일정온도까지는 기계적 특성이 계속 증가 할 것으로 사료되며, 극저온 고압 상태로 공급되는 산화제 배관 제작에 적합한 소재로 판단된다.

Effect of Cooling Rates on Mechanical Properties and Microstructure of Inconel Alloys (인코넬 합금의 미세조직과 기계적 특성에 미치는 냉각속도 영향)

  • The mechanical properties and microstructure of Inconel 690 and 600 alloys with various cooling rates were investigated. Optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy observations indicated that in case of the cooling rate of $0.5^{\circ}C/min$, discontinuous carbides along the grain boundaries were formed and when the cooling rate was $10^{\circ}C/min$, continuous carbides were formed in Inconel 690 and 600 alloys. For the annealed Inconel 690 alloy with high Cr content, a lot of annealing twins, which led the preferential growth of (111) planes, were observed. However, the annealed Inconel 600 alloy with low Cr content showed a few annealing twins and the preferential growth of (200) planes. Inconel 600 alloy had a larger value of ultimate tensile strength (UTS) than Inconel 690 alloy.

Joint Properties of Inconel 718 Additive Manufactured on Ti-6Al-4V by FGM method (Ti-6Al-4V 합금 기지 위에 FGM 방식으로 적층제조 된 Inconel 718의 접합 특성 분석)

  • In the present work, Inconel 718 alloy is additively manufactured on the Ti-6Al-4V alloy, and a functionally graded material is built between Inconel 718 and Ti-6Al-4V alloys. The vanadium interlayer is applied to prevent the formation of detrimental intermetallic compounds between Ti-6Al-4V and Inconel 718 by direct joining. The additive manufacturing of Inconel 718 alloy is performed by changing the laser power and scan speed. The microstructures of the joint interface are characterized by scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and micro X-ray diffraction. Additive manufacturing is successfully performed by changing the energy input. The micro Vickers hardness of the additive manufactured Inconel 718 dramatically increased owing to the presence of the Cr-oxide phase, which is formed by the difference in energy input.

Localized Corrosion Behavior of Inconel 718 in a Chloride-Containing Aqueous Solution (염수 환경에서 Inconel 718의 국부 부식 거동)

  • Localized corrosion behavior of Ni-based Inconel 718 alloy was investigated by electrochemical anodic polarization techniques in NACE TM 0177 A solution of 5 wt% NaCl + 0.5 wt% acetic acid at room temperature. After the solution heat treated at 1080 ℃ for 2.5 h, Inconel 718 was age-hardened at 780 ℃ for 8 h. The microstructure of the alloy surface was investigated by optical microscopic or scanning electron microscopic technique. The austenitic phase with the presence of metal carbides was observed on the surface of Inconel 718. Metal-carbides such as Nb-Mo and Ti-carbide with diameters of approximately 10 and 3 ㎛, respectively, were formed in Inconel 718. Anodic polarization results revealed that localized corrosion was observed at the interface between austenitic phase of a substrate and metal carbides. Difference in electrochemical property between a metal carbide and an austenitic substrate could provide an initiation site for localized corrosion of Inconel 718 surface.
