  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify type of anger expression and mental health in middle aged women. Methods: From August to October 2005, survey data were collected by using the State Trait Anger Expression Inventory and Symptom Check List-90-Revision (SCL). Participants (1,442) were classified into four types of anger expression by K-mean cluster analysis. For collecting interview data for content analysis, 18 participants (4-5 participants from each type of anger expression) were recruited. The interview data were collected between March and September 2006. Results: The average score of the state anger of middle-aged women was 11.95, and that of the trait anger was 18.75. The average anger expression scores were 12.72 for Anger-In, 13.45 for Anger-Out, and 18.51 for Anger-Control. The average SCL scores were 45.03 for somatization, 42.23 for obsessive-compulsiveness, 42.44 for interpersonal sensitivity, 42.45 for depression, 42.40 for anxiety, 42.62 for hostility, 44.44 for phobic anxiety, 43.65 for paranoid ideation, and 43.08 for psychoticism. The anger expression types identified in this study were 1) anger-out in secret, 2) anger-control with a patience, 3) anger-out with suppression, and 4) low anger expression type. The psychosomatic symptom scores were the highest in type III (anger-out with suppression), and the lowest in type IV (low anger expression type). Conclusion: This study can be helpful in assisting middle aged women to control their anger effectively and may contribute to the improvement of their mental health.

  • Data encryption, particularly application-level data encryption, is a common solution to protect data confidentiality and deal with security threats. Application-level encryption is a process in which data is encrypted before being sent to the database. However, cryptography transforms data and makes the query difficult to execute. Various studies have been carried out to find ways in order to implement a searchable encrypted database. In the current paper, we provide a new encrypting method and querying on encrypted data (ZSDB) for different data types. It is worth mentioning that the proposed method is based on secret sharing. ZSDB provides data confidentiality by dividing sensitive data into two parts and using the additional server as Dictionary Server. In addition, it supports required operations on various types of data, especially LIKE operator functioning on string data type. ZSDB dedicates the largest volume of execution tasks on queries to the server. Therefore, the data owner only needs to encrypt and decrypt data.

  • The IEEE 802.11 wireless standard uses the carrier sense multiple access with collision avoidance (CSMA/CA) as its MAC protocol (during the distributed coordination function period). This protocol is an adaptation of the CSMA/CD of the wired networks. CSMA/CA mechanism cannot guarantee quality of service (QoS) required by the application because orits random access method. In this study, we propose a new MAC protocol that considers different types of traffic (e.g., voice and data) and for each traffic type different priority levels are assigned. To improve the QoS of IEEE 802.11 MAC protocols over a multi-channel CSMA/CA, we have developed a new admission policy for both voice and data traffics. This protocol can be performed in direct sequence spread spectrum (DSSS) or frequency hopping spread spectrum (FHSS). For voice traffic we reserve a channel, while for data traffic the access is random using a CSMA/CA mechanism, and in this case a selective reject and push-out mechanism is added to meet the quality of service required by data traffic. To study the performance of the proposed protocol and to show the benefits of our design, a mathematical model is built based on Markov chains. The system could be represented by a Markov chain which is difficult to solve as the state-space is too large. This is due to the resource management and user mobility. Thus, we propose to build an aggregated Markov chain with a smaller state-space that allows performance measures to be computed easily. We have used stochastic comparisons of Markov chains to prove that the proposed access protocol (with selective reject and push-out mechanisms) gives less loss rates of high priority connections (data and voices) than the traditional one (without admission policy and selective reject and push-out mechanisms). We give numerical results to confirm mathematical proofs.

  • Since large terrain data can not be loaded on the GPU or CPU memory at once, out-of-core methods which read necessary part from the secondary storage such as a hard disk are commonly used. However, long delay may occur due to limited bandwidth while loading the data from the hard disk to memory. We propose efficient rendering method of large terrain data, which compresses the data with wavelet technique and save its coefficients in RGBA channel of an image us, then decompresses that in rendering stage. Entire process is performed in GPU using Direct Compute. By reducing the amount of data transfer, performing wavelet computations in parallel and doing decompression quickly on the GPU, our method can reduce rendering time effectively.

  • In today's manufacturing environment, the process data can be easily measured and transferred to a computer for analysis in a real-time mode. As a result, it is possible to monitor several correlated quality variables simultaneously. Various multivariate statistical process control (MSPC) procedures have been presented to detect an out-of-control event. Although the classical MSPC procedures give the out-of-control signal, it is difficult to determine which variable has caused the signal. In order to solve this problem, data mining and machine learning techniques can be considered. In this paper, we applied the technique of decision tree learning to the MSPC, and we did simulation for MSPC procedures to monitor the bivariate normal process means. The results of simulation show that the overall performance of the MSPC procedure using decision tree learning technique is similar for several values of correlation coefficient, and the accurate classification rates for out-of-control are different depending on the values of correlation coefficient and the shift magnitude. The introduced procedure has the advantage that it provides the information about assignable causes, which can be required by practitioners.

  • Since well-calibrated satellite data is critical for their applications, calibration and validation of COMS science data was one of the key activities during the IOT. COMS MI radiometric calibration process was divided into two phases according to the out-gassing of the sensor: calibrations of the visible (VI) and infrared (IR) channels. Different from the VIS calibration, the calibration steps for the IR channels followed additional processes to secure their radiometric performances. Primary calibration steps of the IR were scan mirror emissivity correction, midnight effect compensation, slope averaging and 1/f noise compensation after a nominal calibration. First, the scan mirror emissivity correction was conducted to compensate the variability of the scan mirror emissivity driven by the coating material on the scan mirror. Second, the midnight effect correction was performed to remove unreasonable high spikes of the slope values caused by the excessive radiative sources during the local midnight. After these steps, the residual (difference between the previous slope and the given slope) was filtered by a smoothing routine to eliminate the remnant random noises. The 1/f noise compensation was also carried out to filter out the lower frequency noises caused from the electronics in the Imager. With through calibration processes during the entire IOT period, the calibrated IR data showed excellent performances.
