  • For the safety analysis of large structures such as nuclear containment buildings, we conventionally prefer to use analytical approach using finite element method rather than empirical test. Therefor, this paper is mainly focused to develop low-order solid finite element model with the elasto-plastic material model for the safety analysis of nuclear containment building. Drucker-Prager failure criteria in uncracked concrete and maximum tensile stress criteria in cracked concrete are used to model the constitutive behavior of concrete. The concrete material model takes into account the aspects of tensile strain, compression strength reduction of concrete and shear transfer to improve the accuracy of the finite element analysis. Finally, numerical simulation to compare the performance of the developed model with experimental results is employed. The numerical results in this study agree very well with the experimental data.

  • The equivalent model of a permanent magnet (PM) plays an important role in electromagnetic system calculation. A type of subsection model for a PM bar is established, to improve the accuracy of the traditional equivalent circuit method. The mathematical expression, and its end verification condition, are presented. Based on the analytical method and finite element method, the leakage permeance calculation of a PM bar in an open magnetic circuit is investigated. As an example, for a given certain type of PM bar, the magnetic flux of each section is validated by experiment, and by simulation. This model offers a foundation for building a high accuracy equivalent magnetic PM model in an electromagnetic system.

Development of Teaching Model for Teaching Demonstration of Pre-service Fisheries and Marine School Teachers through Class Consulting (수해양계 예비교사의 수업시연을 위한 수업컨설팅 수업모형 개발)

  • The purpose of this study was to develop a teaching model to improve teaching demonstration competence of pre-service Fisheries and Marine teachers through class consulting. The results were as follows: First, the results of a survey on perception of 19 pre-service teachers showed that most of them did not know exactly about the teaching demonstration. Second, a teaching model through class consulting was developed in four stages: Preparation for class, doing lesson, watching lesson, reflecting class. Third, the developed lessons model was applied for 6 weeks, but it was hard to expect much change just for 6 weeks. If discussions about the content of the lesson plan are haven during prior class consulting, this will be helpful for pre-service teachers in making the real teaching plan. The class performer have to write a report on class analysis because it is necessary to try systematic analysis on teaching demonstration.

  • We analyze mathematically a VSB (vestigial side-band) transceiver system for the Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) digital television standard and extract a near-baseband equivalent VSB channel model. This model shows the multi-path fading effect of the quadrature component on the in-phase component. Also, we obtain a simplified model of the VSB transceiver system, which is represented by convolution of the transmission signal (before modulation) and the VSB channel. This simplified model is efficiently used for simulation of VSB systems to improve its performances, especially in an equalization part. Applying the DTV channel specifications tested by the Advanced Television Test Conter (ATTC) to the channel model, we obtain an equivalent VSB channel and show the equalization result by using the conventional derision-feedback equalize (DFE).

  • In all major industries ranging from powder industries and advanced ceramics, to the food and pharmaceutical manufacture powder industries, the main production process is the spray dryers. In this paper, a systematic approach is used and six rules are obtained for the basis of the fuzzy model. A fuzzy model is based on the past behavior of the target system and expected to be able to reproduce the behavior of the target system. The output of the developed fuzzy model shows, graphically and statistically, a high level of face validity. Therefore, it is concluded that the developed fuzzy model mimics the actual process and can be considered, with confidence, as a reliable model to study, analyze, and improve the existing process.

  • The accuracy and the dynamic bandwidth are the two most important indices that an inductive position sensor is evaluated with. Eddy currents and magnetic hysteresis affect both of these performance indices. As the modulation frequency of the sensor increases to improve the dynamic bandwidth, the effects of eddy currents and hysteresis also increases, which results in the loss of accuracy. In this paper, a magnetic circuit model of the differential inductive sensor is developed. This model includes the effects of hysteresis and eddy currents. Experimental results confirm the validity of the model. The model predicts that the eddy current effects are not significant below the modulation frequency of 50kHz, as long as the lamination thickness is adequate.

  • The improvement of the water level control is important since it will prevent the steam generator trip so that improve the reliability and credibility of operation system. In this paper, the closed loop system identification is performed which can be used for the system monitoring and prediction of the system response. The model also can be used for the prediction control. Irving model is used as a steam generator model. The plant is an open loop unstable and non-minimum phase system. Fuzzy controller stabilize the system and the stable controller stabilize the system and the stable closed loop system is identified using neural networks. The obtained neural network model is validated using the untrained input and output. The results of computer simulation show the obtained Neural Network model represents the closed loop system well.

  • In this paper, 3-dimensional numerical model of an escalator is developed to study the vibration characteristics. This proposed model is able to consider the elastic deformation of the frame during transient dynamic analysis. Deformation modes which are used to calculate the elastic deformation are selected from the FE model analysis. Because low frequency vibration is very important to the ride quality of fore/aft direction, low frequency deformation modes of the frame below 20Hz are considered. To show validity of this dynamics model, longitudinal acceleration of a step is compared with test data in frequency domain. Then robust design technique is applied to determine important design factors and improve ride quality with small number of experiments.

Model Identification and Attitude Control Methodology for the Flexible Body of a Satellite

  • The controller of a model reference adaptive control monitors the plant's inputs and outputs to acknowledge its characteristics. It then adapts itself to the characteristics it encounters instead of behaving in a fixed manner. An important part of every adaptive scheme is the adaptive law for estimating the unknown parameters on line. A more precise model is required to improve performance and to stabilize a given dynamic system, such as a satellite in which performance varies over time and the coefficients change due to disturbances, etc. After model identification, the robust controller ($H{\infty}$) is designed to stabilize the rigid body and flexible body of a satellite, which can be perturbed due to disturbance. The result obtained by the $H{\infty}$ controller is compared with that of the proportional and integration controller which is commonly used for stabilizing a satellite.
