The PVDF(polyvinylidene fluoride) film sensor as one of smart sensors has good characteristics to detect the impact damages of composite structures. The capabilities of the PVDF film sensor for evaluating impact behaviors and damages of Gr/Ep laminates subjected to low-velocity impact were examined. From sensor signals, the specific wave-forms implying the damage were detected. The wavelet transform(WT) and Short Time Fourier Transform(STFT) were used to decompose the piezoelectric sensor signals in this study. The impact behaviors of Gr/Ep laminates were simulated and the impact forces were reconstructed using the sensor signals. Finally, the impact damages were predicted by finite element analysis with the reconstructed forces. For experimental verification, a series of low-velocity impact tests from low energy to damage-induced energy were carried-out. The extent of damage in each case was examined by means of ultrasonic C-scan and the measured damage areas were agreed well with the predicted areas by the F.E.A.
Impact damages are very important in the perspective of residual strength of composite structures such as aircrafts, ships, and trains because those damages are sometimes not visible on the surface of the point of impact and the impact resistance of laminated composites is usually not so high. Thus, the impact characteristics of laminated composites should he investigated for the safety of composite structures. This paper investigates the low-velocity impact and damage detection conducted on woven carbon/epoxy laminates. Experimental results show that the type of damage is dependent on the impact energy level and the delamination area becomes larger as the impact energy increases.
This paper presents the fatigue behavior of composite materials with impact-induced damage. The impact damage parameter is proposed to evaluate the effect of impact damage on fatigue life. Subsequently, a new model is developed to predict the fatigue life of impacted composite materials. Also, a stochastic model is proposed to describe the variation of fatigue life due to the material nonhomogeneity. For these models, the fatigue tests were performed on the unimpacted and impacted composite materials, The effect of impact damage on fatigue life can be characterized by the impact damage parameter. Additionally, the results by the present fatigue life prediction model agree will with experimental results regardless of applied impact energy. Also, the variation of fatigue life can be described by the present stochastic model and is reduced with applied impact energy.
In this paper, the contact force between two colliding bodies is modeled by using Hertz's force-displacement law and nonlinear damping function. In order to verify the appropriateness of the proposed contact force model, the drop type impact test is carried out for different impact velocities and different materials of the impacting body, such as rubber, plastic and steel. In the drop type impact experiment, six photo interrupters in series close to the collision location are installed to measure the velocity before impact more accurately. The characteristics of contact force model are investigated through experiments. The parameters of the contact force model are estimated using the optimization technique. Finally the estimated parameters are used to predict the impact force between two colliding bodies in opening action of the magnetic contactor, a kind of switch mechanism for switching electric circuits.

TiN and TiAlN coating layer were deposited on WC-Co steel substrates by an arc ion plating(AIP) technique. The crystallinity and morphology for the deposited coating layers were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The impact behaviors of the deposited TiN and TiAlN coating layer were investigated with a ball-on-plate impact tester. Beyond $10^2$ impact cycle, TiAlN coating layer showed superior impact wear resistance compared to TiN coating layer. On the other hand, both TiN and TiAlN coating layers started to be partially failed between $10^2$ and $10^3$ impact cycle. Above $10^3$ impact cycle, TiN and TiAlN coating layers showed similar impact behavior because of the substrate effect.
This paper describes the characteristic analysis of ice impact force for the Arctic structure shape. In the present study an energy method has been used to predict the impact force during the ice-structure collision. This study also employs two concepts for reference contact area and normalized stress in analysis procedure. The influences of factors, such as impact velocity, full penetration depth, structure shape and ice floe size, are investigated. Full penetration occurs, particularly at lower impact velocity when ice thickness increase. But "typical size" ice floe does not expected ever to achieve full penetration during the impact procedure. The structure shape is the dominant factor in ice impact force characteristic. The results for various ice-structure collision scenarios are analyzed.
The regulation for floor impact sound level is expected to be amended to 50㏈(L$\_$i, Fmax, AW/) and below in heavy-weight impact sound and 58㏈(L'$\_$n, AW/) and below in light-weight impact sound in Korea. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the influence factors of floor impact sound levels in apartments. The influence factors were air pressure of bang machine, height of microphones, data acquisition rate, etc. The air pressure range of bang machine were from 2.2 Pa to 2.6 Fa. Five microphones were installed at a height of 0.5m, 0.7m, 0.9m, 1.2m, 1.5m or 1.7m from floor level. The floor impact sound level was varied about 1-3㏈(L$\_$i, Fmax, AW/) in heavy-weight impact sound according to the influence factors.
Interior stone walls are using commonly in non-bearing lightweight walls of apartments. The stones of interior wall were two types, one is a granite stone, another is a marble stone. Granite stone is attached by the epoxy adhesive and marble stone is attached by dedicated anchor and fastener. The impact resistance test was carried out interior stone walls in accordance with KS F 2613. The test methods included the impact resistance tests by each of soft impact body and hard impact body. The results of the test have proved that interior stone walls can withstand the soft impact bodies and hard impact bodies that are likely to happen in everyday life.
In resent the weight of structure is heavier and bigger than before. Engineers use many heavy equipments to erect buildings and bridges. The heavy equipment is very useful to lift any weight. But most engineers do not know the impact of the weight when the equipment lifts the weight. In this study one researched into the impact of the weight in the crane work which lifts the weight in the construction site. Also along the number of pulley sheave the impact of the weight was researched. From the impact field test the impact coefficient of a single pulley sheave crane was 0.65 and the four pulley sheaves crane was 0.13. The result shows that the impact coefficient of a single pulley crane is more than 5 time of the impact coefficient of the four pulley sheaves crane and that engineers must consider the impact effect of the crane work in the construction site.
