Cytokines represent an essential part of the innate immune response in mammals. Recently, several studies have reported presence of cytokine-like activities and molecules in the invertebrates such as echinoderms, tunicates, molluscs and insects (Beck and Habicht, 1986; Beck et al.; 1959; Ottaviani et al.; 1993; Franchini, 1996). Transglutaminase2 (TGM2) is a multi-functional calcium dependent enzyme that affects angiogenesis, apoptosis, differentiation, attachment, and changes in the extracellular matrix. However, its function in periodontal tissue has not yet been studied. The aim of this study was to investigate the association of the TGM2 expression and the modulation of inflammatory mediators in inflamed periodontal ligament (PDL) cells induced by pro-inflammatory cytokines such as Interleukin-$1{\beta}$ and the Tumor necrosis $factor-{\alpha}$. The expression of TGM2 was increased in the inflamed periodontal tissue and PDL cells. Over-expressed TGM2 in the PDL cells increased expression of MMP1, MMP3, IL-6, CXCL8, and PTGS2. Conversely, inhibition of TGM2 activity using LDN27219, a TGM2 inhibitor, resulted in decreased expression of MMP1, MMP3, IL-6, and CXCL8. The mRNA expression was confirmed by RT-PCR and quantified by qRT-PCR. Protein levels were also confirmed by immunofluoroscence staining. These results suggest that TGM2 plays an important role in the regulation of inflammatory mediators which exacerbate tissue damage in inflamed periodontal tissue.

Chunghyuldan (Qingxuedan in Chinese) (CHD) has been used for patients with atherosclerosis and brain ischemia in Korea. To evaluate antiischemic activity of CHD, its antiinflammatory effect in lipopolysaccharide-induced BV-2 cells was investigated. CHD potently inhibited nitric oxide (NO) production in LPS-induced BV-2 cells with an $IC_{50}$ value of 4.8${\mu}g/ml$. CHD did not only inhibit mRNA and protein expression levels of inducible NO synthase and cyclooxygenase-2 in LPS-induced BV-2 cells, but also repressed mRNA expression levels of proinflammatory cytokines IL-l$\beta$ and TNF-$\alpha$. CHD also downregulated the activation of NF-kB and AP-l transcription factors induced by LPS. These results suggest that CHD may improve inflammatory brain ischemia by the downregulation the activation of NF-kB and AP-l transcription factors.

Until a recent date, the surface finish generated in turning by the conventional cutting tool is directly related to the feed rate and the size of the tool nose radius. With this tool a large feed rate will give poorer surface finish and a large nose radius will generate a better surface finish. Recently a new concept in the tool design is introduced to achieve a better surface finish at a higher feed rate. This is the wiper tool, which has the portion of nose with infinite radius. This can remove the ridges left when the conventional tool is used. In this study two series of cutting tests with the wiper tool and the conventional tool are carried out under the various cutting conditions of cutting depth, feed rate and cutting speed. The effects of the wiper design and the cutting conditions on the surface roughness resulted are carefully examined and compared.

In spite of the development of the service industry, research on measuring customers' service satisfaction is far insufficient. Therefore, ways to measure the service quality accurately need to be established due to the ambiguous types of service business. This research classifies the types of service business into service factory, service shop, mass service, professional service by using Schmenner's Service Process Matrix and conducts research on domestic literature that measured service satisfaction with Servqual and ServPerf. This study intends to suggest guidelines to measure customer satisfaction according to types of service business by researching ways to measure service satisfaction according to the types of service business and analysing the actual application methods based on a table that summarizes previous research on Servqual and Servperf.

지난해 9월 성공적으로 발사된 과학기술위성 1호의 주탑재체인 FIMS는 초기운용을 통해 우주궤도상에서 성공적으로 동작하고 있음을 확인하였다. 과학탑재체가 올려지게 되면, 초기에는 분광 성능과 위성 자세의 보정 등이 이루어지게 된다. 현재는 초기운영을 통한 보정이 마무리되어 주요 임무인 원자외선 영역의 전천탐사를 수행하고 있다. 앞으로 1년여에 걸쳐 은하 전 영역에 걸친 분광영상을 획득하게 된다. (중략)
