  • Studies have been carried out on the fabrication of PPy/GC and PPy/Pt electrode modified with polypyrrole film and determination of Cr(VI) by using 3-electrode system with modified electrodes. Modified electrodes were able to easily fabricated by cyclic voltammetry scanned from +1.0V to -1.0V(vs. Ag/AgCl) at 50 mV/sec. Film thickness could be controlled at same condition by the number of cycling up to 26 times. Reduction behaviour of Cr(VI) at PPy/GC electrode could be seen at wide potential ranges from +0.6V to -0.5V(vs. Ag/AgCl), and maximum reduction peak potential of the ion was observed at -0.25V(vs.Ag/AgCl). Calibration graph at its potential was linear from 0.1 ppm to 80.O ppm. Slope factor and relative coefficient were 1.75 mA/ppm and 0.998, respectively. Reduction behaviour of Cr(VI) at PPy/Pt electrode was similar to PPy/GC electrode, Calibration graph was linear from l.0 ppm to 60.0 ppm. Slope factor and relative coefficient were 0.5mA/ppm and 0.923, respectively. But PPy/GC modified electrode had about 3 times higher sensitivity than PPy/Pt modified electrode. Reduction behaviour of Cu(II), As(IlI), Pb(II), and Cd(II) couldn't be seen at PPy/GC electrode,Its metals had not lnterfered with Cr (VI) determination.

  • The sorption behavior of Cs(I), Sr(II), and U(VI) on representative single minerals(oxide and clay) and rocks were comparatively studied by using batch type sorption experiment. The effects of pH, ionic strength and the sorption mechanism were also discussed. It was found that mineral structure played as a main factor governing the sorption characteristics of Cs(I), Sr(II). The sorption of Cs(I) and Sr(II) on minerals showed ionic strength-dependency, which is a indirect sign of weak binding between metal cation and mineral surfaces. However, the sorption behavior of U(VI) was quite different compared with that of Cs(I), and Sr(II). Fe-oxide minerals showed strong tendency for U(VI) sorption, dominating the sorption in the composite/mixture systems. The surface characteristics which arise from mineral structure, and the affinity of metal ions to the sorption sites of minerals are the key to understand the role of minerals in the radionuclide sorption.

  • PolyHIPEs membrane prepared with styrene (St), divinylbenzene (DVB), and ethylhexyl acrylate (EHA) can yield a unique pore structure provided by large voids highly interconnected by many small window throats. With the advantageous pore structure, PolyHIPE presents a potential as a support for carrier facilitated transport membrane. Tricaprylmethylammonium chloride (Aliquat 336) can be efficiently incorporated into the PolyHIPE membrane by a two-step solvent-nonsolvent method to obtain an Aliquat 336-immobilized PolyHIPE membrane with good stability. The study of Cr (VI) transport through Aliquat 336-immobilized PolyHIPE membrane indicates that the membrane has high initial flux and maxima stripping flux ($J_f^o=15.01({\mu}mol/m^2s)$, $J_s^{max}=6.15({\mu}mol/m^2s)$). The reusability study shows that the Aliquat 336-immobilized PolyHIPE membrane can maintain high Cr(VI) recovery efficiency even after 15 cycles of operations. The developed membrane was also used in the separation of Cr (VI) from other anions (i.e., $SO_4{^{2-}}$ and $NO_3{^-}$) and other cations (i.e., Ni (II), Mg (II) and Cu (II)) with good selectivity.

  • This study has shown the tendency to enhance Sand Flux, a device of separating screening the foreign matter, for the recycling of construction waste possible to improve the quality of wet type production system meaningfully as part of research. As a result of experiment on the basic material properties, this study had a tendency to improve the quality and performance significantly in case of absolute surface dried density, 0.08mm sieve throughput, volume of clay lumps, and content of organic foreign matter. In addition, as a result of examining the quality characteristics of mortar, this study has shown the tendency that the flow and compressive strength more increased than the mortar using RS-II by utilizing RS-VI recycled sand produced finally through the device Sand Flux. As for the shrinkage properties, this study has shown the character the generation rate of crack of mortar using RS-IV recycled sand produced finally through the device Sand Flux.

  • Atomic absorption spectrophotometric (AAS) determination of hexavalent chromium [Cr(VI)] in a waste water was studied. Cr(VI) was extracted with p-xylene from the wastewater, in the way of ion pair formation with anion exchanger aliquat-336(tri-caprylmethyl ammonium chloride). 100ml waste water, after organic materials were extracted out with toluene, was acidified with conc. HCl adjusting the medium to pH 0.5 and 20ml of p-xylene containing 0.01M aliguat-336 was used to extract Cr(VI) from the acidified solution. The absorbance of chromium was measured with air-acetylene flame at 357.9nm. Standard addition method was used in the determining concentration of Cr(VI) extracted. No interference has been found in the extraction of Cr(VI) by the Al(III), Fe(III) and Cr(III) ion presented. However, Fe(II) decreased the absorbance of Cr(VI), due to the fact Fe(II) reduces Cr(VI) to Cr(III). The contained organic material was removed prior to extracting process, since it may reduced the absorbance of Cr(VI). The recovery of added Cr(VI) was over 96%, which seems to be promising and the relative standard deviation was 3.95%

  • Oxo molybdenum (V) complexes of substituted 8-quinolinols were synthesized and characterized by means of the investigation of elemental analysis, infrared spectra, electron spectra, electric conductivity and mass spectrometry compared with oxo molybdenum (VI) complexes. Oxo molybdenum(V) complexes were nonelectrolyte and one strong band of stretching mode of molybdenum and terminal oxygen appeared approximately $940cm^{-1}$. Oxo molybdenum(VI) complexes gave two peaks corresponding molybdenum containing ions, a molecular ion (I) of a 2 : 1 (ligand : metal) chelate and a fragment ion (II) of a 1:1 chelate due to the loss of ligand radical from ion (I). Molybdenum(V) complexes were observed the fragment ion(II) of a 1 : 1 chelate partly. The electronic spectra corresponding to d-d transition and charge transfer transition were observed and interpreted.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate effect of saliva decontamination procedures on microtensile bond strength (MTBS) of 1-step self-etching adhesives to dentin of primary posterior teeth. 63 sound primary-posterior teeth were randomly divided into 3 groups according to different kinds of 1-step self-etching adhesives: $Scotchbond^{TM}$ Universal Adhesive (SBU), All-Bond $Universal^{(R)}$ (ABU), and $Tetric^{(R)}$ N Bond Universal (TBU). Each group was randomly categorized into 7 subgroups: (I) application of adhesive without saliva contamination (control); (II - IV) contamination by saliva before photopolymerization; (V - VII) contamination by saliva after photopolymerization; (II, V) decontamination by drying; (III, VI) decontamination by washing and drying; (IV, VII) decontamination by washing, drying, and reapplication of adhesive. All samples were cut into the blocks. At least 15 blocks were tested for each subgroup. For SBU and ABU, the MTBS values of subgroups (I, IV, VII) were significantly higher than those of subgroups (II, III, V, VI). For TBU, the MTBS values of subgroups (I, IV) was significantly higher than those of subgroup (II, III, V, VI). The MTBS of 3 adhesives was reduced by saliva contamination. The adhesive strength on dentin of primary posterior teeth was restored by reapplication of the adhesives after washing and drying.
