  • A GNSS(Global Navigation Satellite System) using GPS provides us with very useful information concerning the positioning of users in many sectors such as transportation, social services, the justice system and customs services, public works, search and rescue systems and leisure. A GNSS using the Galileo satellite is due to work in 2008 and expected to be used in various fields such as aviation, marine transportation, land surveying, resources development precise agriculture, telemetics, and so on. In this paper, we discuss the implementation and testing of a combined GPS/Galileo receiver which we named KSTAR V1.0. Each tracking module of GPS/Galileo dual mode correlator has the five track arms which consist of Very Early code, Early code, Prompt code, late code, and Very late code. Each of 24 tracking modules can be assigned to GPS and/or Galileo signal by changing mode selection register. The basic correlator integration dump period is set to 1ms for GPS C/A code and fast Galileo signal tracking. The performance of the developed combined GPS/Galileo receiver was tested and evaluated using the IF (Intermediated Frequency)-level GPS/Galileo signal generator.

  • In order to get more accurate GPS position with the changes of the inner configuration setting of GPS receiver, the authors carried out measurements of the position at known it with one antenna and two GPS receivers manufactured by same company. We have investigated the accuracies of positions according to the change of the maskangle and receiving mode of output data in inner configuration of GPS receivers, and analyzed the relationships between numbers of satellites visibility and maskangles, and values of HDOP and maskangles. When the maskangles in inner configuration were set below 20 degree, the accuracies of positions were high. But if they were became bigger than 25 degree, standard deviations ot position errors and HDOPS of positions were became bigger. Numbers of satellites visibility(y) and maskangles(x) have relations with a formula, y = -0.1662x+9.9225, and values of HDOP(y) and maskangles(x) have relations with a formula, y = 0.6035 $e^{0.0517x}$. The results of position accuracies observed by two GPS receivers to the known position at same time were that average errors of position fixs by GPS receiver configured with NMEA0183 mode were 6.7m and standard deviations were 1.5m, and them by GPS receiver configured with binary mode were 5.0m and standard deviations were 1.1m respectively.

  • As Internet usage has increased, the risk of adolescents being exposed to adult content and harmful information on the Internet has also risen. To help prevent adolescents accessing this content, a novel detection method for adult images is proposed. The proposed method involves three steps. First, the Image Of Interest (IOI) is extracted from the image background. Second, the IOI is distinguished from the segmented image using a novel weighting mask, and it is determined to be acceptable or unacceptable. Finally, the features (color and texture) of the IOI or original image are compared to a critical value; if they exceed that value then the image is deemed to be an adult image. A Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was performed to define this optimal critical value. And, the textural features are identified using a gray level co-occurrence matrix. The proposed method increased the precision level of detection by applying a novel weighting mask and a receiver operating characteristic curve. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method, 2850 adult and non-adult images were used for experimentation.

  • The Real Time Kinematic (RTK) technique is the most productive and accurate GPS positioning method today, as it can be determinate position within few centimeters instantly. This method is widely used for applications such as surveying, structure monitoring and machine guidance etc. In order to perform RTK processing for large scale systems (i.e. precise vehicle monitoring with many rovers), many expensive RTK receivers and same number of bidirectional communication units have to be installed to collect observation data communicate with the reference site and monitor its RTK solutions. Moreover, if applications require remote control or apply sensing instruments, we have to install computers at each rover. To limit expense and complexity of system management with a large number of rovers, we have developed server based RTK processing platform to share RTK function for all rovers. The system can be process many GPS stations with a single personal computer. we have also developed a specialized dual frequency GPS receiver unit without on-board RTK processing capability to reduce receiver cost in order to demonstrate the advantage of our server based RTK platform. This paper describes the concept of our server based RTK platform and specialized GPS receiver unit with existing applications in Japan.

  • Diagnostic tests in medical fields detect or diagnose a disease with results measured by continuous or discrete ordinal data. The performance of a diagnostic test is summarized using the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve and the area under the curve (AUC). The diagnostic test is considered clinically useful if the outcomes in actually-positive cases are higher than actually-negative cases and the ROC curve is concave. In this study, we apply the stochastic ordering method in a Bayesian hierarchical model to estimate the proper ROC curve and AUC when the diagnostic test results are measured in discrete ordinal data. We compare the conventional binormal model and binormal model under stochastic ordering. The simulation results and real data analysis for breast cancer indicate that the binormal model under stochastic ordering can be used to estimate the proper ROC curve with a small bias even though the sample sizes were small or the sample size of actually-negative cases varied from actually-positive cases. Therefore, it is appropriate to consider the binormal model under stochastic ordering in the presence of large differences for a sample size between actually-negative and actually-positive groups.

  • In this paper we have proposed a new architecture of DQ-IRM(Double-Quadrature Image Rejection Mixer) for image rejection in the low-IF receiver. It consist of a frequency-tunable RF PPF(Poly Phase Filter) and the quadrature mixers. The conventional DQ-IRM generates the quadrature RF signals for the RF wide band at once. But the proposed DQ-IRM with the frequency-tuable RF PPF generates the quadrature RF signals for the narrow band of 2~3 channels bandwidth, which is partitioned from the RF wide band. We designed the CMOS RF tuner for T-DMB(Terrestrial Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) with the proposed 3rd DQ-IRM using a 0.18um CMOS technology and verified the performances of the designed receiver such as the image rejection ratio, the noise figure and the power consumption. The overall NF of the RF tuner is about 1.26 dB and the image reject ratio is about 51 dB. The power consumption is 55.8 mW at 1.8 V supply voltage. The chip area is $3.0{\times}2.5mm^2$.

  • This paper has been studied about UWB(Ulra wide-band)'s LNA(Low Noise Amplifier) and Mixer. The UWB is a new technology that is being pursed for both commercial and military purposes. Direct conversion architectures that convert RF signals have potential to achieve such terminals, because they eliminate the need for non-programmable image-rejection filters and IF channel filters. And this architecture promises better performance in power, size, and cost than existing heterodyne - based receivers. This Receiver architectures combines low-noise amplifier, mixer. And then this paper has designed suitable UWB's LNA and Mixer.

  • This paper reports a couple of key circuit blocks developed for heterodyne receiver front-ends operating near 140 GHz based on SiGe HBT technology. Firstly, a 123-GHz oscillator was developed based on Colpitts topology, which showed -5 dBm output power and phase noise of -107.34 dBc/Hz at 10 MHz. DC power dissipation was 25.6 mW. Secondly, a 135 GHz mixer was developed based on a modified Gilbert Cell topology, which exhibited a peak conversion gain of 3.6 dB at 1 GHz IF at fixed LO frequency of 134 GHz. DC power dissipation was 3 mW, which mostly comes from the buffer.

  • A number of navigation improvements are envisaged : Differential GPS - WAAS, LAAS, and Performance Based Navigation. The GPS receiver verifies the integrity(usability) of the signals received from the GPS constellation through a process called receiver autonomous integrity monitoring(RAIM) to determine if a satellite is providing corrupted information. This paper describe the RAIM function and Performance-Based Navigation implementation of Mission Equipment Package(MEP) for Korean Utility Helicopter.
