  • In this paper, ranging code collision probability and ranging period which are two important performance measures for code division multiple access (CDMA)-type ranging in wireless broadband (WiBro) system are mathematically derived. Based on the analysis, the appropriate ranging management solution for maintaining the ranging collision probability below a certain threshold level and correctly recognizing the transmitted ranging code against propagation delay is obtained in terms of the number of ranging codes, the number of ranging regions, and ranging period. In this analysis, user mobility features such as speed and moving direction are also considered.

  • In this work we consider the problem of downlink resource allocation for proportional fairness of long term received rates of data users and quality of service for real time sessions in an OFDMA-based wireless system. The base station allocates available power and subchannels to individual users based on long term average received rates, quality of service (QoS) based rate constraints and channel conditions. We formulate and solve a joint bandwidth and power optimization problem, solving which provides a performance improvement with respect to existing resource allocation algorithms. We propose schemes for flat as well as frequency selective fading cases. Numerical evaluation results show that the proposed method provides better QoS to voice and video sessions while providing more and fair rates to data users in comparison with existing schemes.

  • In this paper, we proposed that decentralized frequency allocation scheme(DFAS) without network entry procedure between relays in mobile relay system. Frequency Indicator(FI) signal which is the reference signal of frequency division of each relay and Energy Detection(ED) region are defined. In addition, the mobile connected to the relay transmits the FI signal to neighbor relays in order to facilitate communication between relays. Finally, by using this scheme, the cell throughput improvement is confirmed.

  • In this paper, we proposed ARAHE(Adaptive Resource Allocation algorithm for HIPERLAN/2 with Error channel). It uses EIB(Error Indication Bits) for efficient resource allocation. We evaluate the performance of ARAHE by simulation and the result shows ARAHE has better performance than current method in the case of delay, utilization and TSR(Transmission Success Rate).

  • In this paper, WiBro system which is one of the mobile wireless metropolitan area network systems is presented. WiBro is an OFDMA system which has a sub-channelization process unlike conventional OFDM systems. The sub-channelization is the time consuming processing, so a time-efficient hardware architecture is needed. WiBro RAS(Radio Access Station) demodulator is designed with Verilog HDL, and the gate count is 81k using the $0.18{\mu}m$ processing.

  • Mobile WiMAX technology is the key solution for providing high speed internet services at anytime and anywhere in mobile environments as 3.5th wireless technology between 3rd generation and 4th generation wireless technology, and the service demands shall be rapidly increased in future some years. This paper analyzed the QoS performance of Mobile WiMAX technology recommended by IEEE 802.16e specification under the restricted simulation conditions and environments. The major metrics for analyzing QoS performance of Mobile WiMAX are 1) total packet drop rates; 2) transmission / receive packet sizes; 3) end to end delay in node 2; 4) packet drop rate by mobile terminal mobility.

  • For provisioning the best effort service, the IEEE 802.16 Wireless MAN standard employs a MAC scheme based on reservation ALOHA. In the MAC scheme, a subscriber station, after attempting a resource request, waits for a resource grant during a prescribed period rather than an explicit acknowledgement. In this paper, we propose a MAC scheme for improving delay performance, where we control the lifetime of a request to prevent excessive grants and distribute residual resource according to a round robin. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme significantly improves the mean delay performance.

  • In this paper, a mobile relay station (MRS) for vehicles with a beamforming antenna is considered to increase the reliability of the transmission link, particularly for the MRS at the cell boundary. A cell searching and direction-of-arrival estimation method for an MRS with a uniform linear array is proposed for OFDM-based cellular systems in a multipath environment, even with the existence of the symbol timing offsets and carrier frequency offsets. The performance of the proposed method is evaluated by computer simulation using the standard profile of IEEE 802.16e.

  • This paper presents the implementation and performance test of a Digital IF transceiver for a SDR-based mobile communication base station. The transceiver is reconfigurable to HSDPA and to three profiles, 7 MHz, 3.5 MHz, and 1.75 MHz, each incorporating the IEEE 802.16d WiMAX standard. The transceiver can be reconfigured to other standard profiles through software downloaded onto identical hardware platforms. Experimental results show that the transceiver can be reconfigured to other systems and the performance of the transceiver satisfies the recommended performance criteria of each standard.

  • In this work we propose a universal pricing machine, which incorporates a universal pricing framework for the future IEEE802.16 WiMAX service with multiple classes of service. A multimedia service is provided by a QoS provisioning scheme in the WiMAX network and universal pricing means that it can compute the price for any type of service in a unified framework. In the proposed pricing framework we incorporate multiple types of services such as the real time and nonreal time services that are supposed to be provided in the WiMAX network. To that purpose, let us first carry out an analysis on the current pricing scheme of Korean WiMAX service which incorporates only the data size. From that analysis we propose a new pricing scheme for the future WiMAX service that provides different service classes in the network. Via numerical experiment, we verify the implication of the work.
