An Analytical Model for LR-WPAN Performance in the Presence of Hidden Nodes (은닉노드를 고려한 LR-WPAN 성능의 분석적 모델)

  • This paper proposes an analytical performance model of IEEE 802.15.4 in the presence of hidden nodes. Conventional 802.15.4 mathematical models assume ideal situations where every node can detect the transmission signal of every other nodes different from the realistic environments. Since nodes can be randomly located in real environments so that some nodes' presence is hidden from other ones, this assumption leads to wrong performance evaluation of 802.15.4. For solving this problem, we develop an extended performance model which combines the traditional 802.15.4 performance model with one for accounting the presence of hidden nodes. The extended model predicts the rapid performance degradation of 802.15.4 due to the small number of hidden nodes. The performance, for example, degrades by 62% at maximum when 5% of the total nodes are hidden. These predictions are confirmed to be equal to those of ns-2 simulations by less than 6% difference.

Improved TDMA with Superframe Structure-based CSMA/CA MAC protocol for Wireless Body Area Network (WBAN을 지원하기 위한 개선된 슈퍼프레임 구조를 가지는 TDMA 기반의 CSMA/CA MAC 프로토콜)

  • Due to the development of information and communication, there is a rising interest on WBAN(Wireless Body Area Network) that maintain and check the human being health. According to the application of different quality of service and a special mechanism for transferring medical data are required in WBAN environment. In this paper, we proposed the new formed superframe that has CSMA/CA based TDMA scheduling and CSMA/CA used IEEE 802.15.4 in order to process emergency data and on-demand data in WBAN environment. We estimated performance of the proposed MAC protocol by compared performance of other MAC protocols that are IEEE 802.15.4 MAC protocl and Z-MAC protocol has contention access period based TDMA scheduling.

  • 본 논문은 공개 네트워크 시뮬레이터 ns-2.31(Network Simulator 2.31)의 802.11 DCF 모듈에서 버그(bug)를 소개하고 이의 영향 결과를 분석한다. ns의 802.11 DCF 모듈은 다음과 같은 문제점을 가지고 있다. 첫째, 백오프(backoff) 알고리즘은 표준안에서 명시한 알고리즘대로 작성되지 않았다. 둘째, 특정조건에 해당되는 충돌에 대하여 트레이스 파일에 출력하지 않는다. 셋째, 전파 오류 모듈을 삽입하여도 전파 오류 결과를 트레이스 파일에 출력하지 않는다. 넷째, MAC(Medium Access Control) 알고리즘만을 평가할 수 있는 기법을 제공하지 않는다. 이러한 문제점을 수정한 ns-2와 수정전의 ns-2와 평균4.6%의 충돌률 차이를 보인다.

  • 본 논문에서는 2.4GHz 마그네트론을 이용하는 RF 전구에 대하여 동 대역을 사용하는IEEE 802.11b 기반의 무선랜과 전파간섭을 분석하였다. RF 전구가 무선랜에 미치는 전파간섭을 분석한 결과, LOS 환경(무선랜 수신전력 -63dBm/MHz)에서는 무선랜 채널 9, 10에 약 1~2Mbps의 전송속도 저하를 유발하였으며, Non-LOS 환경(무선랜 수신전력 -78dBm/MHz)에서는 무선랜 채널 6-11번에 통화절단 현상을 야기하였다. 그러나, RF 전구 수에 따른 간섭전력의 누적효과는 없는 것으로 나타났다.

  • USN technology will be applied to various fields such as logistics, transportation, government, health, welfare and environment and will be settled down by basic infrastructure of a future society. In this study, we analyzed sensor networks structure based on IEEE 802.15.4 and implemented the sensor monitoring system using Zigbee modules. For implementation of real-time sensor monitoring system, we designed Linux-based development environment and the sensor-specific component. The result of this paper may be utilized in such areas lighting system, intrusion detection, fire detection, detection and notification of abnormal conditions.

The Design of the Ultra-Wideband Slot Antenna by Using a Semi-Circular Extension (반원 확장을 이용한 초광대역 슬롯 안테나 설계)

  • In this paper, we have proposed a Ultra-Wideband slot notch antenna by using a semi-circular extension. The proposed antenna cover the entire UWB band(3.1${\~}$10.6 GHz) and notch out the IEEE 802.1la frequency band(5.15${\~}$5.825 GHz) by inserting a $\lambda$/4 length slot into the patch. A prototype antenna was fabricated on FR-4( ${\epsilon}_r$ =4.4, substrate thickness=0.8 mm) and measured for VSWR characteristics. The measured notched frequency variations versus frequency for different slot length. The path loss and group delay were measured. The proposed antenna also show a good gain flatness(1.9 dBi) except the IEEE 802.1la frequency band.

  • Bilateration using two fixed nodes has been used in the field of the real time indoor location system in the narrow space such as building or ship passage. However, as the distance between the fixed nodes increases or any obstructions exist in their zone, it is difficult to detect the location of mobile node(user) due to the degradation of its reception ratio. In order to compensate for these problems, this paper presents, based on IEEE 802.15.4a chirp signal, a new real time indoor location system using stride measurement algorithm which can calculate the location through sensors attached to user. The proposed system consists of an ultrasonic sensor to measure the leg length, a geomagnetic sensor to recognize the user's orientation, and an inertial sensor to obtain the angle between the legs. The experimental results are shown that the proposed system has twice or more accurate output compared with conventional indoor location method in the section which is partially out of communication reachability.

  • A dual-mode direct conversion receiver is developed in $0.13\;{\mu}m$ RF CMOS process for IEEE 802.11n based wireless LAN and IEEE 802.16e based mobile WiMAX application. The RF receiver covers the frequency band between 2.3 and 2.7 GHz. Three-step gain control is realized in LNA by using current steering technique. Current bleeding technique is applied to the down-conversion mixer in order to lower the flicker noise. A frequency divide-by-2 circuit is included in the receiver for LO I/Q differential signal generation. The receiver consumes 56 mA at 1.4 V supply voltage including all LO buffers. Measured results show a power gain of 32 dB, a noise figure of 4.8 dB, a output $P_{1dB}$ of +6 dBm over the entire band.

  • In this paper, we suggested a real-time test-bed for analyzing frequency interference between 2.4 GHz unlicensed devices, such as WiFi, Zigbee, etc. Owing to versatile programming capability of Universal Software Radio Peripheral(USRP) and $Labview^{TM}$, frequency interference environments can be easily modeled. Therefore, performance degradation effects due to various parameters of interferer and victim receiver can be analyzed intuitively. For verification, we showed a frequency interference scenario, which consists of IEEE 802.15.4 as a victim and IEEE 802.11b as a interferer. Measured Bit Error Rate(BER) results showed good agreement with theory and simulation results.

Design of Wideband Planar Inverted-F Antenna Using Two-Layer Patches and Modified Ground Structure (이중층 패치와 부분 제거된 접지면을 이용한 광대역 평판형 역 F 안테나의 설계)

  • In this paper, we proposed a wideband design of planar inverted-F antenna(PIFA) using two-layer, patches and modified ground structure. The antenna consists of two layer patches with common feed and modified ground plane to control resonance frequency and antenna input impedance. The measured bandwidth is 1,492 MHz(BW: 67.7 %, 1,457${\sim}2,949$ MHz) for VSWR<2, and 1,170 MHz(BW: 21 %, 4,970${\sim}$6,140 MHz) for VSWR<2.5. It covers service bands of DCS1800, DCS1900, UMTS(WCDMA), WiBro, WLAN(IEEE 802.11b), satellite DMB. WLAN(IEEE 802.11a) in Korea and radiation patterns shows constant figure with frequency change.
