  • 본고에서는 IEEE 802.11에서 표준화가 진행중인 1 GHz 이하 비면허 주파수에서 동작하는 무선랜(WLAN, Wireless LAN) 표준인 IEEE 802.11ah 무선랜 기술에 대해 알아본다. IEEE 802.11ah 는 스마트 그리드, 센서 네트워크, M2M(machine-to-machine) 통신, 셀룰러 오프로딩, 광역 무선랜 서비스 등을 주된 응용 분야로 고려하고 있으며 이러한 응용들은 기존 무선랜 기술대비 보다 확장된 커버리지, 보다 많은 수의 단말 지원, 저전력 동작 지원 등을 요구한다. IEEE 802.11ah는 이러한 요구 사항을 만족하기 위한 Sub 1 GHz 대역을 사용하는 무선랜 PHY 및 MAC 규격을 개발하였다. 본 고에서는 이러한 IEEE 802.11ah 무선랜의 주요 기술 요소들에 대해 살펴본다.

A Practical Unacknowledged Unicast Transmission in IEEE 802.11 Networks

  • In current IEEE 802.11 wireless LAN, every unicast transmission requires an ACK from the receiver for reliability, though it consumes energy and bandwidth. There have been studies to remove or reduce ACK overhead, especially for energy efficiency. However none of them are practically used now. This paper introduces a noble method of selective unacknowledged transmission, where skipping an ACK is dynamically decided frame by frame. Utilizing the fact that a multicast frame is transmitted without accompanying an ACK in 802.11, the basic unacknowledged transmission is achieved simply by transforming the destination address of a frame to a multicast address. Since removing ACK is inherently more efficient but less strict, its practical profit is dependent on traffic characteristics of a frame as well as network error conditions. To figure out the selective conditions, energy and performance implications of unacknowledged transmission have been explored. Extensive experiments show that energy consumption is almost always reduced, but performance may be dropped especially when TCP exchanges long data with a long distance node through a poor wireless link. An experiment with a well-known traffic model shows that selective unacknowledged transmission gives energy saving with comparable performance.

Broadband Patch Antenna for Wireless LAN Communication of 5GHz Band (5GHz 대역의 무선랜 통신을 위한 광대역 패치 안테나)

  • In this paper, the wideband patch antenna is simulated and manufactured for the wireless LAN of 5GHz band that is defined in IEEE 802.11a. In the 802.11a, 200 channels of 675MHz are defined. Therefore, the bandwidth is needed more than 12.3%. For the wideband characteristics, low dielectric constant is realized with the multi-layer of 2 teflon substrates and the air dielectric layer and the feeding method of the coupled-line is used. Optimized wideband patch antenna is simulated with the return loss of 38.99dB at the center frequency of 5.43GHz and the bandwidth of 12.9%. The gain of manufactured patch antenna is 4.38, 4.52, and 5.12dBi at the channel number of 46, 56, and 153, respectively.

  • Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) is a promising technology for high speed multimedia communication in a frequency selective multipath channel. In this paper, Software IPs for the synchronizer of IEEE 802.11a Wireless LAN system are designed and optimized for TI's TMS320C6201 fixed point DSP. As a result of the execution cycles of the target DSP for each functions of the system, an efficient HW/SW partitioning method can be considered.

  • The reference scheduler presented by IEEE 802.11e standard is inefficient because it polls all admitted stations in the same interval. It increases poll overheads and waste time. In this paper we proposed an efficient scheduling algorithm to improve the aggregate throughput and the number of admitted stations.

  • 최근 무선랜의 발전으로 공공의 사용자 밀집 지역에서 무선랜의 이용이 가능해졌다. 이러한 사용자 밀집 지역에서는 엑세스 과밀 현상이 발생하므로 기존의 무선랜 방식보다 차별화된 엑세스 관리 방법이 요구된다. 본 논문에서는 무선랜의 표준인 IEEE 802.11 에서 제안된 DCF(Distributed Coordination Function)와 PCF(Point Coordination Function) 두가지 전송 방식의 데이터 전송과 폴링 방법을 핫스팟 환경에 맞추어 효과적으로 개선하는 방법으로 노드에 의해서 폴링을 관리하는 스킴을 제안한다.

  • In this paper, to support a QoS level appropriate for the user in Wireless Home Network based Wireless LAN, we propose a QoS support architecture which includes Wired Network and Wireless Network. Actually, an important problem to support QoS in Wireless Home Network is approached not only on a MAC level in Wireless LAN but on a integrated method to combine Network layer with Datalink layer. Applying the integrated QoS support method. It is possible to provide QoS support architecture using a Wireless LAN terminal with a minimum changing, the proposed scheme has advantage of QoS support method, which is more superior than a existing scheme to support QoS in MAC level of Wireless LAN. Simulation results that overall performance of the proposed scheme can be improved.

  • One of major characteristics in wireless LAN is terminal's frequent mobility, so it makes many overheads in the process of authentications repeatedly at each handoffs. So I propose IAPP(Inter Access Point Protocol) of IEEE 802.11f, modified context block and 4 way handshake of IEEE 802.11i, in order to implement secure and rapid handoff. The context block. I proposed, doesn't makes any communication with RADIUS server at handoff period. Therefore, it guarantee higher efficiency than existing handoff mechanisms. Also it can improve security vulnerability by padding authentication field in the context block for providing in advance against Replay and DoS(Denial of Service) attacks.

  • In this paper, we developed UHF RFID R/W system using AT91SAM7S256(ARM chip), UHF RFID R/W module (WJ7090) and wireless LAN(IEEE 802.11.a/b). And we developed a transmission/receiving packet which is send to UHF R/W module in AT91SAM7S256. In order to show the usefulness of UHF RFID R/W system, we executed a performance test. The developed UHF RFID R/W system shows better performance for reading of RFID tag and data transmission through wireless LAN.

  • We provide an aggressive spatial reuse scheme exploiting the space sensed busy when neighboring 802.11 stations radiate radio wave in omni-directions. For this purpose, we develop four strategies, i.e., disruptive RTS, busy random backoff, zero padding, and unavailable pair management. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme can improve the aggregate network throughput from 14% to 50% while the station adopting the proposed scheme coexists with the legacy stations.
