  • To improve the safety of facilities and human beings when the ground fault occurs, public power utility prescribes the reasonable ground resistances, measures and controls the ground resistance of all the ground electrodes biennially. Concerning the safety of human, there are two safety criteria widely accepted, i.e. the IEEE Std 80-2000 and the IEC 479-1:1994. The IEEE Std 80-2000 is based on a simplified electric shock model usually translated into permissible touch and step voltages. The IEC 479-1:1994 is less specific than IEEE Std 80-2000 for analysis purpose. The IEC 479-1:1994 provides values of permissible body current against electric shock duration. This paper provides a technical study of these two standards to analyze the safety of human beings of ground electrodes developed recently for distribution power system.

  • Generally Short Circuit Test of transformers are tested according to IEEE std C57.12.00-2000, IEC 60076-5(2000-07), ES148(1998.6.26) or KS C4309(2003). But ES148(1998.6.26) is same as IEEE std C57. 12.00-2000 and KS C4309(2003) is revising coincidence with IEC 60076-5(2000-07). On this study condition of the transformers before short circuit test, calculation method for test current peak value, tolerance on the asymmetrical peak and r.m.s value, short circuit testing procedure, number of short circuit test, duration short circuit test, and detection of faults and evaluation of short circuit test result will be compared with ANSI and IEC.

  • Large steel industries have nonlinear loads including electric arc furnaces. These nonlinear loads generate harmonic currents and create distortions on the sinusoidal voltage of the power system. This paper provides an in depth analysis on harmonics field measurement of the electric arc furnace loads, adding a single-tuned filter at the customer bus for reducing harmonic distortion and harmonics assessment by the international harmonic standards IEC 61000-3-6 and IEEE Std. 519. The EDSA program was used as a simulation tool for the case study.

  • Large steel industries have nonlinear loads including electric arc furnaces and harmonic field measurements have shown that harmonic content of a waveform varies with time. Since the large loads are supplied from the power system grid, it must be recognized that not only will the system of utility be impacted, but neighboring customer system could be impacted as well. In this paper time-varying harmonics are evaluated by international harmonic standards IEEE Std. 519 and IEC 61000-3-6 using a cumulative probablistic approach.

  • For the purpose of developing CALS/EC, it was surveyed ISO/IEC 12207 that was international standard and IEEE/EIA 12207 that was national standard in U.S.A and then peformed analysis comparing with MIL-STD-498 it was called origin of DoD software development process. Also it was surveyed software life cycle Process using doemstic defense area now Software life cycle process based on MIL-STD-498 in defense area was not yet includ the concept of new development philosophy like iterative development and process management according to the characteristics of project. For the purpose of improving software life cycle in defense area, first refined the process. And then on this study it was recommended accomodation of incremental and evolutionary development approach and the method of tailoring based on MIL-STD-498 was able to select and apply the process on the characteristics of project.

  • High speed electric trains have nonlinear loads including converters and inverters for the control synchronous motors. Harmonics produced by these devices are large, but also have noticeable time varying characteristics. Since the large loads are supplied from the power system grid, it must be recognized that not only will the system of utility be impacted, but neighboring customer system could be impacted as well. In this paper time-varying harmonics for high speed electric train loads are measured and evaluated by international harmonic standards IEEE Std. 519 and IEC 61000-3-6 using a cumulative probablistic approach.

  • Large steel industries have time-varying nonlinear loads such as electric arc furnaces. These nonlinear loads generate harmonic currents and create distortions on the sinusoidal voltage of the power system. The main objective of the static var compensator is to maintain the rms voltage at the point of common coupling within the limit. In this research, harmonic mitigation studies were conducted with and without the SVC, and time-varying harmonics were evaluated according to the international harmonic standards (IEC 61000-3-6 and IEEE Std. 519) using a cumulative probabilistic approach.

  • Electric ballast is widely used to turn on the fluorescent. Electric ballast measure occurrence of harmonic through the actual measurement and it is simulated by modeling equivalent circuit for harmonic analysis. The purpose of this paper is to give an equivalent circuit modeling methodology for the harmonic currents generated by single-phase loads to evaluate a commercially available series resonant filter for the harmonic currents compensation based on the IEC 61000-3-2 and IEEE Std 519-1992 standards for limiting harmonic distortion.

  • Large steel industries have nonlinear loads such as electric arc furnaces. Harmonic field measurements have shown that the harmonic contents of a waveform varies with time. Direct application of the harmonic assessment to the snapshot measurements would result in ambiguous conclusions depending on which instant is sampled. A cumulative probablistic approach is the most commonly used method to solve time-varying harmonics. Harmonic simulations are performed to evaluate the harmonic voltage and current distortions throughout the system. This paper provides an in depth analysis on harmonics field measurement of the electric arc furnace loads, harmonics assessment by the international harmonic standards IEC 61000-3-6 and IEEE Std. 519 and harmonic simulation for the time-varying harmonics. The EDSA program was used as a simulation tool for the case study.
