  • Oscillations in a sunspot are easily detected through the Doppler velocity observation. Although the sunspot oscillations look erratic, the wavelet analysis show that they consist of successive wave packets which have strong power near three or five minutes. Previous studies found that 3-min oscillation at the chromosphere is a visual pattern of upward propagating acoustic waves along the magnetic field lines. Resent multi-height observations help this like vertical study, however, we also focus on horizontal facet to extend three dimensional understand of sunspot waves. So, we investigate a fragmented sunspot expected to have complex wave profiles according to the positions in the sunspot observed by the Fast Imaging Solar Spectrograph. We choose 4 points at different umbral cores as sampling positions to determine coherence of oscillations. The sets of cross-correlation with three and five minutes bandpass filters during a single wave packet reveal interesting results. Na I line show weak correlations with some lags, but Fe I and Ni I have strong correlations with no phase difference over the sunspots. It is more remarkable at Ni I line with 3-min bandpass that all sets of cross-correlation look like the autocorrelation. We can interpret this as sunspot oscillations occur spontaneously over a sunspot at photosphere but not at chromosphere. It implies a larger or deeper origin of 3-min sunspot oscillation.

  • In order to provide good germplasm for developing good corn hybrids, a total of 948 Korean indigenous corn lines were collected from various parts of country and major morphological characterstics of ears were investigated. The results obtained were as follows; 1) Ear Type; From the east-north mountaionus region where more than 80% of total corn production is practiced, cylinder (type I) or similar types to cylinder corn were collected, and from the southern plain region, where rather small scales of corn is grown, cone type (type IV) or similar types to cone were prevalent. 2) Kernel color; In the ear colors of all the indigenous corn lines collected from ten regions, ears with mono color were 54.4%, ears with two color mixed were 39.0% and ears with three or more color mixed were 6.6%. In northern mountainous region, region A and region I, ear color was mostly white or white plus other colors, while in other regions ear color was yellow or yellow plus other colors. 3) Denting; Dent type was only 4.3% of Korean indigenous corn lines collected, and others were flint type. Dent type was collected from northern regions, where foreign corn varieties were introduced and grown. 4) Ear row number; Ear row numbers of indigenous corn lines collected were 12 to 16. There was no significant differences among the ear row numbers in a ear ciassified by regions. However, it was observed that ear row number was closely related to kernel size. For instance, the ears with 24 ear-rows were the smallest in kernel size. 5) Quality of starch; 70.9% of the indigenous corn lines collected were kernels with hard starch. Corn with soft starch was 26.0% and medium type was 3.1%. In region A and region I, where lot of corn is grown, corn with hard starch was more frequently collected. 6) Pop corn and waxy corn; In all the indigenous corn lines collected, popcorn was distributed uniformly through the regions except region I, and waxy corn was found more in the northern mountainous region. 7) Ear length; The mean ear length of indigenous corn lines collected was 13cm. In region A and region I ear length was larger than that in other regions. 8) Ear diameter; The mean ear diameter of indigenous corn lines collected was 3.3cm. In region A and region I ear diameter was larger than that in other regions. 9) Kernel length, kernel width and kernel thickness; The mean kernel length, kernel width and kernel thickness of indigenous corn lines collected were 0.82cm, 0.42cm, and 0.78cm, respectively. The kernel size in the region A and region I was larger than that in other regions. 10) Ear weight; The mean ear weight of indigenous corn lines collected was 58.04gr. Ear weight was remarkably heavier in region A and region I. The heaviest ear weighed 330gr, and the lightest ear weighed 5 gr. 11) Kernel weight of a ear and 100 kernel weight; Kernel weight of a ear and 100 kernel of indigenous corn lines collected were 47.07gr and 15.07gr, respectively. Kernel weights and 100 kernel weights were much heavier in region A and region I than other regions.

  • Phase I trials determine the maximum tolerated dose(MTD) and the recommended dose(RD) for subsequent Phase II trials. In this paper, a MTD estimation method applied to a biased coin design is proposed for Phase I Clinical Trials. The suggested MTD estimation method is compared to the SM3 method and the NM method (Lee and Kim, 2012) using a Monte Carlo simulation study.

  • In this paper, we show some results on the artinianness of local cohomology modules with respect to a system of ideals. If M is a 𝚽-minimax ZD-module, then Hdim M𝚽(M)/𝖆Hdim M𝚽(M) is artinian for all 𝖆 ∈ 𝚽. Moreover, if M is a 𝚽-minimax ZD-module, t is a non-negative integer and Hi𝚽(M) is minimax for all i > t, then Hi𝚽(M) is artinian for all i > t.

  • Natural green rust (GR) can retard the migration of anions through geological media because it has a Layer Double Hydroxyl (LDH) structure with a positive charge. In this study, the sorption behaviors of anions such as selenite ($Se(IV)O{_3}^{2-}$), selenate ($Se(VI)O{_4}^{2-}$), and iodide ($I^-$) onto green rusts with different structures, i.e., GR($Cl^-$) and GR($CO{_3}^{2-}$), were investigated by conducting batch sorption experiments in an anoxic condition. Experimental results showed that selenite was mostly sorbed onto GR($CO{_3}^{2-}$) and then partly reduced to metal selenium, Se(0). However, little selenate and iodide was sorbed onto GR($CO{_3}^{2-}$) while some iodide was sorbed onto GR($Cl^-$). It is presumed from the experimental results that the major sorption mechanism of $SeO{_3}^{2-}$ and $I^-$ onto green rusts is the anion exchange reaction with the anions existing in the interlayer of the rusts. Green rust, therefore, can play an important role in the retardation of anions migrating through deep geological environments owing to its LDH structure with a high anion exchange capacity.

  • Genomic RNA was extracted from Cy strain of odontoglossum ringspot tobamovirus (ORSV-Cy) isolated from infected leaves of tobacco cv. Samsun. Size of the genomic RNA was about 6.6 kb in length. The genomic RNA was fractionated using Sephadex G-50 column chromatography into 2 fractions. They were polyadenylated at their 3'-end using E. coli poly(A) polymerase. Polyadenylated viral RNA was recovered by oligo (dT) primer adapter containing NotI restriction site and Moloney murine leukemia virus SuperScript reverse transcriptase (RNase H-). Second-strand cDNA was synthesized by using E. coli DNA ligase, E. coli DNA polymerase I and E. coli RNase H. Recombinant plasmids containing cDNAs for ORSV-Cy RNA ranged from about 800 bp to 3,000 bp. Among the selected 238 recombinants, pORCY-124 clone was the largest one covering 3'-terminal half of the viral RNA. This clone contained two restriction sites for EcoRI and XbaI and one site for AccI, AvaI, BglII, BstXI, HindIII, PstI, and TthIII 1. respectively. The clone contained partial viral replicase, a full-length movement protein and a complete coat protein genes followed by a 3' untranslated region of 414 nucleotides based on restriction mapping and nucleotide sequencing analyses. Clones pORCY-028, -068, -072, -187 and -224 were overlapped with the pORCY-124. Clones pORCY-014 and -095 covered 5' half upstream from the middle region of the viral RNA, which was estimated based on restriction mapping and partial sequence analysis. Constructed cDNA library covered more than 90% of the viral genome.

  • Mouse mammary epithelial cells(NMuMG) were maintained onto 6-well plates (3$\times$105 cells/well) or chambered slide (1$\times$104 cells/well), in DMEM supplemented with 10% fetal calf serum. After serum starvation for 24 hours, DMNB (1$\mu$M) was added and exposed to UV light (300nm, 3 second pulse) after 2 hours from DMNB addition in order to activate DMNB which induces a rapid transient increase in intracellular cAMP upon UV irradiation. EGF (100ng/ml) and/or IGF-I (10ng/ml) were treated at the time of UV irradiation. Nuclear labeling index was estimated as percent of nuclear labeled cells(percent of S phase of cells) by incorporation of 3H-thymidine into DNA(1 hour pulse with 1$\mu$Ci/ml). DMNB(1$\mu$M), EGF (100ng/ml) and/or IGF-I (10ng/ml) signifciantly increased nuclear labeling index than those of control (P<0.05). Addition of DMNB+EGF or DMNB+EGF+IGF-I showed the interaction effect in nuclear labeling index (P<0.05). Protein kinase A activities by addition of EGF, IGF-I or EGF+IGF-I were 10.5, 9.8 or 9.4 unit/mg protein, respectively, and no statistical difference was found in comparison with control (P>0.05). Additon of DMNB+EGF showed the moderate interaction effect on tyrosyl kinase activity (P<0.1). In the fluorography analysis, there were no specific protein phosphorylation patterns were found at 1 or 15 minute by addition of DMNB. EGF and/or IGF-I. These results suggest that the interaction effect in nuclear labeling index by addition DMNB and EGF could be mediated through the modulation of tyrosyl kinase activity by cAMP.

  • To find out the responses of soybean genotypes in terms of different levels of irrigation with the aim of evaluating the growth, yield, and its optimum levels of irrigation, an experiment was conducted at the Field of Crop Botany Department, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh during the period from November 2000 to February 2001. Five levels of irrigation viz. $\textrm{I}_0$: no irrigation, $\textrm{I}_1$: one time irrigation at 20 days after sowing (DAS), $\textrm{I}_2$:two times irrigation at 20 and 40 DAS, $\textrm{I}_3$: three times irrigation at 20, 40, and 60 DAS, and $\textrm{I}_4$: four times irrigation at 20, 40, 60, and 80 DAS and three genotypes of soybean viz. BS-3, BS-16, and BS-60 were used in this experiment. The crop was grown in a split plot design having three replications. The plant height, leaf area index, crop growth rate, shoot dry weight, branches $\textrm{plantI}_{-1}$, filled pods $\textrm{plantI}_{-1}$, seeds $\textrm{plantI}_{-1}$, seed yield, and harvest index were influenced significantly by irrigation and these were found to be highest at three times irrigation except branches $\textrm{plantI}_{-1}$. The chlorophyll content increased but empty pods $\textrm{plantI}_{-1}$ decreased with increase in irrigation levels. Genotypes of soybean varied significantly in terms of growth attributes at various growth stages except shoot dry weight at 90 DAS. The genotype BS-3 performed better compared to other genotypes and gave maximum seed yield.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyse the spill-out effects of logistics industries among Korea, Japan and China. For this purpose, we used an International I/O table made by Asian Economic Institute of Japan, which is made up for 11 countries. At first, we transformed the I/O table for 11 countries into that for 3 countries, and then we applied the Inter-Regional Input Ouput model to find out the spill-out effects of one country's logistics investment to another country's logistics or other industries. The contribution of this study is that this paper has suggested a method how to evaluate a logistics interrelation among 3 countries by way of I/O analysis for the first time.

  • MPEG-I is actively working on standardization on the immersive video coding which provides up to 6 degree of freedom (6DoF) in terms of viewpoint. In a virtual space of 3DoF+, which is defined as an extension of 360 with motion parallax, looking at the scene from another viewpoint (another position in space) requires rendering an additional viewpoint using multiple videos included in the 3DoF+ video. In the MPEG-I Visual workgroup, efficient coding methods for 3DoF+ video are being studied, and they released Test Model for Immersive Video (TMIV) recently. This paper presents a patch packing method which packs the patches into atlases efficiently for improving coding efficiency of 3DoF+ video in TMIV. The proposed method improves the reconstructed view quality with reduced coding artifacts by introducing guardbands between patches in the atlas.
