To determine the use of waste materials as root zone soil mixtures for turfgrass culture, the effects of paper mill sludge and briquet ash on physical and chemical properties of soil and growth of turfgrasses were examined. Three turfgrass species of zoysiagrass(Zoysia japonicaSteud.). kentycky bluegrass(Poa pratensis L. 'Ram I') and creeping bentgrass(Agrostis panistris Huds 'Persucross') were cultured in 32cm diameter plastic pots containing various soil mixtures. The basic ingredients used for mixtures included sand(SD), field soil(SL), paper mill sludge(PS), sphagnum peat moss(PM) and briquet ash(BA). Seven combinations using these ingreients were mixed in different percentage by volume as follows: SD+SL+PM(80:10.10), SH+SL+PS(80:10:10), SD-PM(80:20), SD+PS (80:20), SD+BA(80:20), SD+BA+PM(60:20:20) and SD+BA+PS(60:20:20). 1. Paper mill sludge showed pH of 6.6, more than 30% of organic matter content, and higher concentrations of total N, P, k, Ca, Mg and CEC. Bulk density, fild moisture capacity and electrical conductivity of soil mixtures were increased by the comimation of 10~20% PS by volume. 2. Briquet ash showed pH of 8.0, and higher levels of P, k, Ca and Mg than those of field soiks. Bulk density, field moisture capacity and hardenss of soil mixtures were increased but vertical water flow rate and electrical conductivity were decreased by the combination of 20% BA by volume. 3. Phytotoxic effects of PS and BA on growth of turfgrasses were not found. Shoot growth of all three species was higher in soil combination of SD+BA+PS than that of SD+SL+PM added with fertilizer. However, root growth was better in soil mixtures combined with PM. Soil mixtureomposed of 60% SD, 20% BA and 20% PS by volume was most effective on growth of all three species. 4. Paper mill sludge resulted in higher N level in the leaf tissue. The contents of heavy metals such as Cd and Ph did not vary significantly among soil mixtures and species. However, the Mn level was 2~3 times higher in plants growh in mixtures containing PM compared with others, and especially it was higher in creeping bentgrass than other species.

Recently, a barium(Ba) and an iodine(I) being studied as a conventional lead(Pb) alternatives of shielding material has excellent shieding rate, but the characteristic x-ray photons in the energy range near 30 keV line is released. In this study, with bismuth oxide(BiO) coupled barium sulfate($BaSO_4$) double layer, transmitted spectra, shieding rates and relative weighting rates were evaluated to validate the applicability of eco-friendly double layer shieding structure using monte carlo simulations as a prior study. From the evaluation results, in 0.4mm and 0.5mm thickness of BiO layers coupled with top 0.1mm-$BaSO_4$ layer, the shieding rate showed 1.9% and 3.9% higher than 0.6mm thickness of Pb single layer, respectively. In addition, the relative weight also 28% and 34.5% lower than 0.6mm-Pb in 0.4mm and 0.5mm thickness of BiO layers coupled with top 0.1mm-$BaSO_4$ layer.
The $BaHfO_3$ (BHO) buffer layer on the IBAD MgO template was turned to be effective for a successful fabrication of $GdBa_2Cu_3O_{7-{\delta}}$ (GdBCO) films with high critical current density ($J_c$). Both the BHO buffer layers and GdBCO films were prepared by pulsed laser deposition (PLD). The effects of the PLD conditions, including substrate temperature ($T_s$), oxygen partial pressure ($PO_2$), and deposition time on the in-plane texture, surface roughness, and microstructures of the BHO buffer layers on the IBAD MgO template were systematically studied for processing optimization. The c-axis oriented growth of BHO layers was insensitive to the deposition temperature and the film thickness, while the in-plane texture and surface roughness of those were improved with increasing $T_s$ from 700 to $800^{\circ}C$. On the optimally processed BHO buffer layer, the highest $J_c$ value (77 K, self-field) of 3.68 $MA/cm^2$ could be obtained from GdBCO film deposited at $780^{\circ}C$, representing that BHO is a strong candidate for the buffer layer on the IBAD MgO template.
We report the solid-liquid phase equilibria on the $GdBa_2Cu_3O_{7-{\delta}}$ (GdBCO) stability phase diagram in low oxygen pressures ($PO_2$) ranging from 1 to 100 mTorr. On the basis of the GdBCO stability phase diagram experimentally determined in low oxygen pressures, the isothermal sections of three different phase fields on log $PO_2$ vs. 1/T diagram were schematically constructed within the $Gd_2O_3-Ba_2CuO_y-Cu_2O$ ternary system, and the solid-liquid phase equilibria in each phase field were described. The invariant points on the phase boundaries include the following three reactions; a pseudobinary peritectic reaction of $GdBCO{\leftrightarrow}Gd_2O_3$ + liquid ($L_1$), a ternary peritectic reaction of $GdBCO{\leftrightarrow}Gd_2O_3+GdBa_6Cu_3O_y$ + liquid ($L_2$), and a monotectic reaction of $L_1{\leftrightarrow}GdBa_6Cu_3O_y+L_2$. A conspicuous feature of the solid-liquid phase equilibria in low $PO_2$ regime (1 - 100 mTorr) is that the GdBCO phase is decomposed into $Gd_2O_3+L_1$ or $Gd_2O_3+GdBa_6Cu_3O_y+L_2$ rather than $Gd_2BaCuO_5+L$ well-known in high $PO_2$ like air.
A/J mice injected with urethane(1mg/ g of body weight) develop tumors with distinct histological patterns, which are classified as solid and papillary. I divided the mice into 3 groups; control group treatment with saline, BA group treatment with herbal formula, Soeuminbojungikgitang 0.4g/kg and BA group treatment with herbal formula 2.0g/kg. The administration of herbal medicine was done every day for 8 weeks. The experimental results from herbal medicine treatment were compared to those from a saline-treated control group. Serial sections of the whole lung(150 to 200 sections per mouse) showed solid and papillary tumors arose from the pulmonary acinus, invading the bronchioles only as the tumors grew. The number of tumor, in the 8 weeks group, are decreased in the experimental groups compared to control group. COX-2 protein and IGF- I protein expression was more increased in lung tumors of the control group compared to BA and BB groups. These results suggest that Soeuminbojungikgitang extract suppress the carcinogenesis of lung in the A/J mouse.

The $(Ba_{1-X}Sr_X)ZrO_3$ powder showing chemically pure and fine particle size was attempted to be synthesized by the oxalate method. The objective of this study is to determine the optimum synthesis condition of stable $(Ba_{1-X}Sr_X)ZrO_3$ powder in terms of the temperatures coefficient of resonant frequency ${\tau}_f$ by examining the microstructure and dielectric properties of the synthesized powder. The six compounds (x=0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8, 1) of $(Ba_{1-X}Sr_X)ZrO_3$ were prepared by the oxalate method, and then calcined at $1000^{\circ}C$ to obtain the crystalline $(Ba_{1-X}Sr_X)ZrO_3$ powder. The synthesized powder showed the globular-shape and average particle size of less than $0.2 \mu\textrm{m}$. The composition of x=0.5, i.e., half of Ba was replaced by Sr, is experted to show the zero value of temperatures coefficient of capacitance ${\tau}_c$.

The effect of pH and particle size on the dispersion stability of ultra-fine $BaTiO_3$ suspensions in aqueous medium have been investigated by means of zeta potential, sediment experiments, and powder properties (particle analysis, specific surface area) etc. Zeta potential as a function of pH for two particles of different size increases from -75 to +10 mV with decreasing pH from 8.5 to 1.4. The curve of zeta potential for small particle (150 nm) has slow slope than that of large particle (900nm), giving IEP (isoelectric point) value of pH=1.6 for small particle and pH=1.9 for large particle respectively, which means that it is more difficult to control zeta potential with pH fur small particle than large particle. The dispersion stability of $BaTiO_3$ particles in aqueous medium was found to be strongly related with the agglomeration of colloidal suspensions with time through the sedimentation behaviors of colloidal particles with time and pH value.
In order to obtain effective utilization of intensifying screens[$CaWO_4(W),\;Gd_2O_2S:Tb(Gd)$, BaFCl : Eu(Ba)] over the diagnostic radiology range, we calculated absorption coefficient (${\mu}$), absorption efficiency (${\eta}_{\alpha}$) and absorbed energy ratio(R) and analyzed effects of these properties on X-ray image, finally concluded as below. Regardless of presence of contrast media, absorption coefficient of Gd the highest and decreased with increase of thickness and kVp. Absorption efficiency related with absorbance of fluorescent materials showed the highest value for the Gd, and discontinuous points exhibited at around $80{\sim}90\;kVp$ and $90{\sim}100kVp$ for the Ba and the Gd, respectively. Furthermore, the absorbed energy ratio(R) correspond to contrast of reflection showed the largest value for the W in the absence of contrast media, and for the Gd in the case of the existence of it, and the ratio was decreased with increasing of incident energy. Owing to these properties, we assumed that it was more preferable to use rare earth type intensifying screen for the radiography using in the C.M.(I, Ba), while in the general radiography, $CaWO_4$ intensifying screen was applicable.
Polycrystalline samples of LaFe$O_3$-BaTi$O_3$ were synthesized to examine the structural and magnetic behavior. X-ray diffraction confirmed that the ceramics had tetragonal symmetry with less tetragonal strain (c/a) than BaTi$O_3$. The magnetic hysteresis measured at room temperature suggested that the magnetic nature deviates from that of the parent LaFe$O_3$, which has antiferromagentic with a G-type spin structure. Improved magnetic behavior of the solid solution compound might be due to the increase in the canting angle of the spin. The presence of oxygen vacancies and fluctuating Fe valence, arising from the substitution of $Ba^{2+}$ and $Ti^{4+}$ at the A- and B-sites of the lattice, might contribute to bulk magnetization. The temperature dependent magnetization indicated that magnetization was higher at low temperatures and showed a decreasing trend with increasing temperature to room temperature. The magnetic transition temperature of these samples was 665 K and 743 K for the mixed system and LaFe$O_3$, respectively.
Benzyladenine (BA, 99% purity), MaxCel$^{(R)}$ (1.9% BA), Fruitone (3.5% NAA), MaxCel$^{(R)}$ + Fruitone, a nd s imazine were applied postbloom as fruitlet thinning agents to mature 'Hongro' and 'Fuji' apple (Malus domestica Borkh.) trees. BA and MaxCel$^{(R)}$ were applied at $100mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ a.i. while Fruitone at $0.1mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ a.i. and simazine at $400mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ a.i. All PGRs were applied at 8 days after full bloom (DAFB, 6 mm fruit diameter) in both cultivars, while simazine was treated twice at 7 and 14 DAFB. In 'Hongro', the number of total fruit set per flower cluster in terminal buds was 1.67, 1.84, and 1.81 in MaxCel$^{(R)}$ + F ruitone, MaxCel$^{(R)}$, and simazine applications, respectively, when compared with 2.35 of water control. These reductions in fruit set were mainly attributed to the increased ratio of defruited clusters by the thinning agents. In 'Fuji' apple, the number of total fruit set per flower cluster in terminal buds was 1.29, 1.60, and 1.76 in MaxCel$^{(R)}$ + Fruitone, Fruitone, and MaxCel$^{(R)}$, respectively, when compared with 2.56 of water control in 'Fuji' apple. The addition of Fruitone to the MaxCel$^{(R)}$ promoted the thinning efficacy in both cultivars, compared to MaxCel$^{(R)}$ only. The thinning efficacies were similarly observed with lateral flowers in both cultivars. A significant increase of fruit weight by the postbloom thinning treatments was observed only in the BA application in 'Hongro', while the effect was observed in BA and MaxCel$^{(R)}$ in 'Fuji'. While the soluble solids content increased in the BA, MaxCel$^{(R)}$ and MaxCel$^{(R)}$+Fruitone treatments in both cultivars, other fruit quality attributes were not affected by the application of post-bloom thinning agents.
