Study on Stability of Ceramides in Liquid Crystalline Emulsions at High Temperature (세라마이드의 액정에멀젼 내 고온 제형 안정성 연구)

  • We introduce to prepare liquid crystalline emulsion composed of cetearyl alcohol, cetyl palmitate, sorbitan palmitate, sorbitan olivate, ceramide and so on which can enforce interface between oil-based particle and water phase. In terms of structural analysis, the stability of the liquid crystalline emulsion including ceramide, which is immisible ingredient, at high temperature was proved by polarized microscope, cryo-SEM, small-angle x-ray scattering, in addition to viscometer and static light scattering by physical analysis.

Functional RsaI/PstI Polymorphism in Cytochrome P450 2E1 Contributes to Bladder Cancer Susceptibility: Evidence from a Meta-analysis

  • Background: Cytochrome P450 2E1 (CYP2E1) might be involved in the development of bladder cancer. However, previous studies of any association between CYP2E1 RsaI/PstI polymorphism and bladder cancer risk have yielded conflicting results. In this study, we performed a more precise estimation of the relationship by a meta-analysis based on the currently available evidence from the literature. Method: To assess the effect of CYP2E1 RsaI/PstI polymorphism on bladder cancer susceptibility, a meta-analysis of 6 available studies with 1,510 cases and 1,560 controls were performed through Feb 2014. Summary odds ratios (ORs) and corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were used to estimate the strength of association for CYP2E1 RsaI/PstI polymorphism under different genetic models. Results: When available studies were pooled into the meta-analysis, we found that the C1C2 and C2C2 genotypes of CYP2E1 RsaI/PstI polymorphism significantly decreased bladder cancer risk under different genetic models (heterozygote: OR=0.766, 95%CI=0.613-0.957, $P_{OR}$=0.019; homozygote: OR=0.51, 95%CI=0.303-0.858, $P_{OR}$=0.011; dominant: OR=0.733, 95%CI=0.593-0.905, $P_{OR}$=0.004; recessive: OR=0.565, 95%CI=0.337-0.947, $P_{OR}$=0.030). Subgroup analysis indicated that C2C2 genotype was significantly associated with decreased bladder cancer risk under the homozygote genetic model in Caucasians. There was no evidence of heterogeneity or publication bias. Conclusions: The current meta-analysis suggested that the CYP2E1 RsaI/PstI polymorphism might be associated with bladder cancer susceptibility, especially in Caucasians. Further studies are needed to validate the above conclusion.

Analysis of the Causes of Decrease in the Number of Students Taking Chemistry I in the CSAT by Analyzing the Chemistry I Question in the CSAT and the Recognition Survey of Students and Teachers (대학수학능력시험 화학 I 문항 분석 및 학생과 교사의 인식 조사를 통한 화학 I 응시자 감소 원인 분석)

  • In this study, we analyzed the causes of decrease in the number of students taking Chemistry ? in the College Scholastics Ability Test (CSAT) by analyzing the adequacy of the Chemistry I question in the CSAT and the recognition survey of students and teachers about the Chemistry I choice. We analyzed some questions in Chemistry I of the CSAT from the year 2014 to 2016. The questions were analyzed to determine whether they were appropriate to the curriculum content, achievement standard, and achievement level. The target of the survey for perception was 452 senior high school students and 68 science teachers. The result of the study showed that the questions in Chemistry I are somewhat difficult compared to the depth and achievement level required by the curriculum, and it also requires mathematical thinking ability. Students recognized the mathematical thinking and complex mathematical skills are needed to solve problems in Chemistry I. Teachers also thought that the choice of Chemistry I is unfavorable in aspect of meeting the minimum academic ability standard, and accordingly, they did not actively recommend students to take Chemistry I. Moreover, most of the teachers recognized that it is necessary to improve the direction of writing questions for Chemistry I. Therefore, setting questions that can be solved using chemical knowledge, not mathematical ability need to be addressed.

An Analysis of the Growth, Education and Academic Research Trends of iSchools (iSchool 대학의 발전, 교육 및 연구 동향 분석)

  • The iSchool movement has been rapidly spread out since the foundation of iSchool Caucus (iCaucus) in 2005, which currently 52 schools have joined across 16 countries. This research aims to investigate the advances in this movement and its impact on education and research in the field of library and information science (LIS) in order to explore future trends in LIS education and research. To do so, this study classifies 21 ALA-accredited iSchools into three groups suggested by King (2006) and comparatively analyzes each group in terms of its temporal advances and curriculum characteristics. Moreover, as the new movement of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) has been rapidly progressing with the initiative of North American schools since 2012, this study also intends to diagnose the possibility of its spillover effect in LIS education by examining application cases.

  • Resistance to lateral torsional buckling of steel I-girder (open section) is a very important design requirement. But, most studies of steel I-girder with corrugated webs were invested in shear behavior. Until now, most studies about Lateral torsional buckling of I-girder with corrugated webs have been based on Lindner.J's study. the study includes that the pure torsional constant of I-girder with corrugated webs doesn't different from that of I-girder with flat webs. This paper pesents pure torsional constant I-girder with sinusoidally corrugated webs by using finite element analysis.

  • Recently, there have been increased much concerns about repair and rehabilitation works for aged concrete structures. In particular, it is known that due to repeated overburden vehicle there are significantly increasing number of aged concrete bridge slabs, which are strongly needed to construct and rehabilitate by innovative construction method. The objective of this research is to develop the new construction method of concrete slab in bridge structure, which can contribute to minimize the traffic congestion during the repair and rehabilitation works of aged concrete slab, and can also sufficiently assure the quality through the minimization of in-situ works at the site. I-beams with punch holes, which are substituted instead of main reinforcing steels in concrete slabs, will be manufactured in accordance with the specification in the factory. and will be preassembled into the Panel. After erecting the preassembled panels in the site, concrete will be poured into the slab panel. This research is to investigate physical properties of I-Beam with punch holes itself through static and fatigue test with rational numerical analysis Finally this research is to suggest reformed I-beam through the numerical analysis.

Hepatitis E Virus Methyltransferase Inhibits Type I Interferon Induction by Targeting RIG-I

  • The type I interferons (IFNs) play a vital role in activation of innate immunity in response to viral infection. Accordingly, viruses have evolved to employ various survival strategies to evade innate immune responses induced by type I IFNs. For example, hepatitis E virus (HEV) encoded papain-like cysteine protease (PCP) has been shown to inhibit IFN activation signaling by suppressing K63-linked de-ubiquitination of retinoic acid-inducible gene I (RIG-I) and TANK-binding kinase 1 (TBK1), thus effectively inhibiting down-stream activation of IFN signaling. In the present study, we demonstrated that HEV inhibits polyinosinic-polycytidylic acid (poly(I:C))-induced $IFN-{\beta}$ transcriptional induction. Moreover, by using reporter assay with individual HEV-encoded gene, we showed that HEV methyltransferase (MeT), a non-structural protein, significantly decreases RIG-I-induced $IFN-{\beta}$ induction and $NF-{\kappa}B$ signaling activities in a dose-dependent manner. Taken together, we report here that MeT, along with PCP, is responsible for the inhibition of RIG-I-induced activation of type I IFNs, expanding the list of HEV-encoded antagonists of the host innate immunity.

Study on the Current Status of Data Science Curriculum in Library and Information Science and its Direction (문헌정보학과의 데이터 사이언스 커리큘럼 개발 실태와 방향성 고찰)

  • This study determines 69 iSchools provided which data science curriculum, and presents the direction for Korean LIS schools. It is certain that iSchools extend their subject territory including areas related to health, technology and biotechnology. However, this phenomenon is not actively observed in Korea. iSchools also focus on the area about how to process and manage data. iSchools, in deed, offer courses regarding data science, data management and data security. The 'database' was a higher proportion of 'data warehouse' curriculum, and, 'data statistic and analysis' curriculum are forming similar portion. As a result of analysis of the iSchool's curriculum and comparison with Korean curriculum, this study suggests: the expansion of LIS curriculum related to data science; the enhanced role of the data translational data science; development of curriculum to raise the mathematical analysis capabilities, development of specialized curriculum and experimental classes; and support new knowledge skills to interact with technology.

iSchool Movement: A Critical Discourse Analysis (iSchool 논의에 대한 비판적 담론분석)

  • The objective of this study is to analyze such discourse as mission statements and objectives, goals, and strategic plan of iSchools. Educational changes created by the digital reality and prevalent information systems and computers became an increasingly important part of library and information science. As a result, library and information schools joined iSchools as the cooperative effort to advance and to understand the rapid changes. These positioning validated the missions, objectives, goals of iSchools and thus an analysis of these documents can lead the way to the future of LIS education. For this job a qualitative analysis were performed to scrutinize the awareness of, support for and involvement with the field among key constituencies.

Security Analysis on the Implementation Vulnerabilities of I-PIN (주민등록번호 대체수단에 대한 구현 취약점 분석)

  • A resident registration number is used to confirm and prove his/her identity in a government/non-governmental agency. It is a essential requirement to become the registered member on internet website in Korea. It is serious problem that the resident registration number and name are outflowed in internet and misused by others. So the MIC(Ministry of Information and Communication) in Korea plans and operates the identification system using I-PIN that integrate 5 alternative methods of resident registration number. In this paper, we analyze the problem about the method of 5 I-PIN services and show the security analysis on the implementation vulnerabilities of I-PIN services. we also analyze 17 websites that provides identification system using I-PIN. Finally, we analyze the overall problem of I-PIN service and propose the countermeasure about the problem.
