A NEW METHOD FOR MEASURING M-H HYSTERESIS LOOPS OF UNIAXIALLY MAGNETIC MATERIALS

  • We have developed a new method for measuring the M-H hysteresis loop of a spheroid-shape magnetic material having a uniaxial anisotropy and discussed its accuracy at fields near the coercivity. Our torque magnetometric method simultaneously gives the saturation magnetization and the remnant magnetization. Furthermore, the coercivity depending on the applied field orientation is accurately measured by this simple technique. An accuracy of the present method is negligibly affected even at fields near the coercivity, where the magnetization is not uniform. The technique makes a torque magnetometer an extremely high sensitive tool for measuring M-H hysteresis loop.

  • The aim of this paper is to compensate hysteresis phenomena in Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) actuators by using numerical inverse Preisach model. This is used to design a controller that correct hysteresis effects and improve accuracy for the displacement of SMA actuators. Firstly, hysteresis is identified by numerical Preisach model implementation. The geometrical interpretation from first order transition curves is used for hysteresis modeling. Secondly, the inverse Preisach model is formulated and incorporated in open-loop control system in order to obtain desired input-output relationship with hysteresis reducing. The experimental results for hysteresis compensation by using this method are also shown in this paper.

Evaluation of Embrittlement in Isochronal Aged Fe-Cr Alloys by Magnetic Hysteresis Loop Technique

  • Fe-Cr alloys with different Cr contents were prepared by an arc melting technique. The alloys were isochronally aged in the range from $400^{\circ}C$ to $900^{\circ}C$ with $50^{\circ}C$ steps with a holding time of 100 hours. The ageing produced embrittlement in the alloys due to either the formation of a Cr-rich ${\alpha}'$ phase or a $\sigma$ phase at high temperatures. Magnetic Hysteresis Loop (MHL) and Micro-Vickers hardness were measured at each step to correlate the magnetic and mechanical properties. Coercivity and hardness of the alloys were increased and remanence decreased up to 500-$550^{\circ}C$ due to formation of a Cr-rich ${\alpha}'$ phase. Beyond 500-$550^{\circ}C$ range, the coercivity and hardness decreased and remanence increased due to the coarsening or dissolution of the Cr-rich ${\alpha}'$ phase. In the Fe-48% Cr alloy, formation of the $\sigma$ phase at $700^{\circ}C$ reduced the maximum induction of the alloy significantly.

The Non Newtonian Flow Mechanism and Rheological Properties of Polyurethane Melts (용융 폴리우레탄의 비 뉴톤 유동 메카니즘과 유변학적인 성질)

  • The non-Newtonian flow curves of polyurethane melts were obtained by using a Physica cone-plate rheometer at various temperatures. The rheological parameters were obtained by applying non-Newtonian flow equation to the flow curves for polyurethane samples. When the polyurethane samples are under increasing-decreasing shear rate modes, the hysteresis loop and thixotropic behavior were shown. Polyurethane melts behave as strong gels when they are subjected to shear flow, but when the applied stress surpasses the yield stress, they exhibit non-linear viscoelasticity. Upon decreasing shear rate, its shear stress remains smaller than the values measured in the increasing shear rate mode, because of broken of its structure.

Evaluation of 3D printability of cementitious materials according to thixotropy behavior

  • This study is a basic research for evaluating the buildability of cementitious materials for three-dimensional (3D) printing. In the cement paste step, the thixotropy behavior according to the resting time, which represents the time interval between each layer, was analyzed. In addition, the relationship between the thixotropy behavior and 3D concrete printing buildability was derived by proposing a measurement method that simulates the 3D concrete printing buildup process. The analysis of the tendency of the thixotropy behavior according to the resting time revealed that the area of the hysteresis loop (AHyst) showed a tendency to increase and then converge as the resting time increased, which means hysteresis loop approach critical resting time for sufficient buildability. In the thixotropy behavior analysis that simulates the 3D concrete printing buildup process, the buildup ratio, which is the recovery rate of the shear stress, showed a tendency to increase and then converge as the resting time increased, which are similar results like hysteresis loop. It was concluded that AHyst and the buildup ratio can be used as parameters for determining the resting time, and they have close relationships with 3D concrete printing buildability.

Perpendicular Magenetic Anisotropy in TbFeCo Magneto Optic Recording Thin Films

  • In order to clarify the origin of perpendicular anisotropy in thermally evaporated TbFeCo amorphous thin films, we have investigated the effects of deposition angle on magnetic Kerr hysteresis loop, perpendicular magnetic anisotropy and internal stress depend strongly on the deposition angle and above a threshold value(30$^{\circ}$), the perpendicular anisotropy disapperars and the in-plane anisotropy appears. The measurement of internal stress is the major contribution to the perpendicular anisotropy. The measurements of Kerr hysteresis loops in the polar and the longitudinal directions show that as the deposition angle increases the polar kerr hystresis loop deteriorates while the longitudinal Kerr hystersis loop becomes prominent.

  • 1. Under the request of the Dept. of Navy, U.S.A. this investigation has been done as a part work of the Navy Research Project of Tropical Woods at the Wood Technology Laboratory, School of Forestry, Yale University, New Haven, Conn., U.S.A. 2. In order to determine the equilibrium moisture content and hysteresis loop of three tropical woods (Ocotea, Tablebuia, and Hymenaea) which have not been tested the physical properties, this investigation has made with small thin specimens (1.5"${\times}$1.0${\times}$0.4) under four different controlled relative humidity conditions (that is, 21%, 53%, 60%, and 83%). 3. As the result, the equilibrium moisture content and hysteresis loop of three tropical woods have been shown in the Table and Figures 2, 3 and 4. 4. According to the results, it is concluded that there are the considerable differences in the equilibrium moisture content under the same relative humidity condition and the type of hysteresis loop between different species which have been tested. 5. Desorption of lumber with slightly oscillating humidity of each species tested, has shown on the Table 9 and it has almost the same tendency of results showing the difference between species as the small specimen. 6. Although it is hard to compare the difference of results, E.M.C., and hysteresis between tropical wood and woods from temperate zone, there are, however, still some difference between species. 7.   • This paper describes an analytical method on the starting torque of hysteresis motor, taking account of penetration effects of magnetic-field and eddy-current into the rotor, to the elliptical approximation method of hysteresis-loop. By the above method, it have obtained the torque of rotor ring with non-magnetic and non-conductive material arbor, and the results are concerned and compared with that of computed by aid of callibration factor, k=1+exp(-2t$_{r}$/.delta.).)
