The bulk photopolymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) with para-substituted phenylsilanes such as F-C6H4SiH3 (1), H3C-C6H4SiH3 (2), and H3CO-C6H4SiH3 (3) was performed to produce poly(MMA)s containing the respective silyl moiety as an end group. For all the hydrosilanes, the polymerization yields and the polymer molecular weights decreased, whereas the TGA residue yields and the relative intensities of Si-H IR stretching bands increased as the relative silane concentration over MMA increased. The polymerization yields and polymer molecular weights of MMA with 1-3 increased in the order of 3 < 1 < 2. These hydrosilanes influence significantly upon the photopolymerization of MMA as both chain-initiation and chain-transfer agents.

Fluoride (F) is an important element for the mineralization of body tissues. The purpose of this study was to administer fluoride prenatally to rats to evaluate its beneficial concentration for rat bone using microstructural analysis, to analyze its effect on the bone structure, and to evaluate the effect of its transfer through rat placenta. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometry (NMR) were performed. The $^{19}F$ NMR and $^{31}P$ NMR signals suggested the existence of fluoride ions in the apatite lattice because the signals were caused by the fluoride ions that were coupled to the phosphate atoms and were affected in the phosphate phases other than the element phases in the apatite. Consequently, if it was not affected too much, the desirable concentration of prenatal fluoride treatment could have a helpful effect on the bone crystal structure through placental fluoride transfer.

Recently, HTTP Adaptive Streaming(HAS), a video streaming service over the HTTP based web platform has become common. The use of HAS service in mobile communication devices such as mobile phones and tablet PCs is rapidly expanding. This paper addresses ways to improve the quality of HAS service by enhancing the terms of viewer satisfaction. HAS systems have several internal operational processes, which can affect viewer satisfaction. Such processes include, the quality determination for the next video chunk, the TCP connections-setup procedure and the congestion control operation of the TCP. This paper proposes a transmission scheme to improve the HAS quality services over mobile web. The proposed scheme takes into consideration the past implicit communication state of the receiver's playback buffer occupancy. The results of these experiments indicate that the proposed scheme can improve the quality of HAS service from the mobile viewer's point of view.

Endotracheal intubation is commonly associated with laryngeal injury that often resolves spontaneously without any complication. However, stenosis or granulomatous lesions are generally found on the tracheal wall or vocal process at the tube cuff level, caused by excessive cuff pressure. We present a case of fatal vocal cord granuloma leading to dyspnea following orthognathic surgery and sustained intubation for 14 hours.

Porphyromonas gingivalis is among the major etiological pathogens of chronic periodontitis. The virulence mechanisms of P. gingivalis is yet to be identified as its activity is largely unknown in actual disease process. The purpose of this study is to identify antigens of P. gingivalis expressed only in patients with chronic periodontitis using a unique immunoscreening technique. Change Mediated Antigen Technology (CMAT), an antibody-based screening technique, was used to identify virulence-associated proteins of P. gingivalis that are expressed only during infection stage in patients having chronic periodontitis. Out of 13,000 recombinant clones screened, 22 tested positive for reproducible reactivity with rabbit hyperimmune anti-sera prepared against dental plaque samples acquired from periodontitis patients. The DNA sequences of these 18 genes were determined. CMAT-identified protein antigens of P. gingivalis included proteins involved in energy metabolism and biosynthesis, heme and iron binding, drug resistance, specific enzyme activities, and unknown functions. Further analysis of these genes could result in a novel insight into the virulence mechanisms of P. gingivalis.

Malignant transformation of ovarian mature cystic teratomas is rare, and papillary thyroid cancer occurs in 0.1%-0.3% of ovarian teratomas that undergo malignant transformation. We describe a case of successful in vitro fertilization pregnancy and delivery after a fertility-sparing laparoscopic operation in a patient with papillary thyroid carcinoma arising from a mature cystic teratoma.

Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) is a rare disorder characterized by the proliferation of dendritic cells resulting in local or systemic symptoms. The clinical symptoms of patients with Langerhans cell histiocytosis depend on the site and the degree of involvement. This article describes two case histories of unifocal bony Langerhans cell histiocytosis with mandibular involvement and further discusses the appropriate management of such via a review of the literature.

A development plan for seismic capacity verification procedures of nuclear components based on the elastic-plastic strain (EPS) features is explained in this paper. The EPS methodology is more realistic to assess seismic responses of components to extreme seismic events beyond the safe shutdown earthquake (SSE) than current practices with the criteria of stress limits. The EPS based approach to analyze the seismic capacity of components can reduce over-conservatism in the current stress-based criteria and can incorporate the seismic responses of components deformed in plastic behavior by the motion of extreme earthquake.
