  • Iron hydroxides are good adsorbents for uncomplexed metals, some metal-ligand complexes and many metal oxyanions. However, their adsorption properties of these precipitations are not fully exploited in wastewater treatment operations because of difficulties associated with their separation from the aqueous phase. This study describes experiments in which iron hydroxides were coated onto the surface of ordinary adsorbents(Sea sand) that are very resistant to acids, The coated adsorbents were used in adsorption of oxyanionic metals. The process was successful in removing some anions such as $SeO_3(-II)$ over a wide range of metal concentrations and sorption of oxyanionic metals increased with decreasing pH. Formation of two surface complexes for oxyanionic metals adsorption on iron hydroxides comprise (1) complexation of the free anion by a positively charged surface site, and (2) protonation of the adsorbed anion (or alternatively adsorption of a protonated form from solution) The coated adsorbents are inexpensive to prepare and could serve as the basis of a useful oxyanionic metal removal.

  • For preparation $\alpha$-Al$_2$O$_3$ platelets having 20 $\mu$m in average diameter and 0.2∼0.3 $\mu$m in thickness, we have prepared aluminum hydroxides gel by using aluminum sulfate and sodium sulfate as starting materials. In this study, we investigated the effect of the amount of sodium phosphate on particle size, morphology and thickness of $\alpha$-Al$_2$O$_3$ platelets. When sodium phosphate was not added to aluminum hydroxides gel, most of $\alpha$-Al$_2$O$_3$ platelets had hexagonal shape but the thickness was over 1.0 $\mu$m, and this sample was not adequate for pearlescent pigment. On the other hand, introduction of sodium phosphate caused an increase of aspect ratio (particle diameter/thickness) with a decrease in $\alpha$-Al$_2$O$_3$ platelet thickness.

  • The non-evaporable water and calcium hydroxides were measured by TG/DTA for studying the temperature effect on hydration of concrete mixture. The experimental parameters introduced in this study were the curing temperatures, ages and W/C ratios. The mixing temperature was also controlled to improve the efficiency of experimental work. While the mixture cured at high temperature showed the large quantity of non-evaporable water and calcium hydroxides at early age, the production rate of these hydration products was decreased as increasing the curing age, and the quantity of hydration product became smaller than that of the corresponding mixture cured at lower temperature at later age.

  • In this study, the air pollutant removal such as sulfur oxides was studied. A combination of the plasma discharge in the reactor by the reaction surface discharge reactor Calcium hydroxides catalytic reactor and air pollutants, hazardous gas SOx, changes in gas concentration, change in frequency, the thickness of the electrode, kinds of electrodes and the addition of simulated composite catalyst composed of a variety of gases, including decomposition experiments were performed by varying the process parameters. The experimental results showed the removal efficiency of 98% in the decomposition of sulfur oxides removal experiment when Calcium hydroxides catalysts and the tungsten(W) electrodes were used. It was increased 3% more than if you do not have the catalytic. If added to methane gas was added the removal efficiency increased decomposition.

  • Carbonation of $Mg(OH)_2$ at 300 ${^{\circ}C}$ was studied by Infrared spectroscopy. Dehydroxylation and carbonation reactions were carried out in consecutive manner via 2-step procedure. Unidentate carbonates were produced only on defective surface of MgO in situ generated by dehydroxylation of $Mg(OH)_2$$Mg(OH)_2$${^{\circ}C}$ was proposed.

  • Mg/Al layered double hydroxide with two-dimensional (2D) nanostructures was synthesized by a hydrothermal technique. The morphology and aspect ratio of $Mg_4Al_2(OH)_{14}3H_2O$ were controlled by the concentration and kinds of the hydrolysis agent, and temperature. The aspect ratio of $Mg_4Al_2(OH)_{14}3H_2O$ layered double hydroxides with the 2D hexagonal crystal structure was tailored from about 12.6 to about 45.7. The intercalated $CO{_3}^{2-}$ anions of the synthesized 2D $Mg_4Al_2(OH)_{14}3H_2O$ layered double hydroxides were exchanged to $NO_3{^-}$ anions. The bulk 2D $Mg_4Al_2(OH)_{14}3H_2O$ layered double hydroxides with the increased space between two layers due to the anion exchange were exfoliated in a formamide solution. The aspect ratio of the exfoliated 2D $Mg_4Al_2(OH)_{14}3H_2O$ layered double hydroxides increased to 570.3.

  • The adsorption characteristics of chromium (VI) and phosphate on calcined Mg-Al-$CO_3$ layered double hydroxides (CLDH) were investigated in single and binary systems. A series of batch experiments were performed to study the influence of various experimental parameters. In this study, CLDH exhibited a high adsorption capacity for Cr (VI) and P in a single system. The experimental data were close to the theoretical adsorption capacity given by the Langmuir isotherm, the calculating adsorption capacities of Cr (VI) and P were up to 70.42 mg/g and 97.09 mg/g, respectively. It was found that the initial pH was approximately 6 and it took 24 h to reach equilibrium when P and Cr (VI) were added simultaneously. The experimental data were best fitted by a pseudo-second-order kinetics model. Competitive adsorption between Cr (VI) and P existed in the binary system. The presence of Cr (VI) had no significant influence on P adsorption. However, the suppression of Cr (VI) adsorption was obvious when the initial concentration of P was up to 10 mg/L with a concentration of 0.5 g/L of CLDH.
