  • The residential fuel cell system was modeled as a box-shaped chamber with vent openings, filled with various components such as reformer, desulfurizer, fuel cell stack and humidifier. When the vent openings are 1% of the total surface and hydrogen leakage 1%, hydrogen concentration is around 0.1% higher than the other regions from leak points in the chamber at 30 seconds and hydrogen concentration is increased from 0.3% to 0.7% in the upper region of the system after 200 seconds. When the vent openings are 1% of the total surface and hydrogen leakage 1%, 3%, 5%, the steady state result of CFD, 5% of hydrogen leakage is reached the lowest ignition limit in the system. When the vent openings are 2% of the total surface and hydrogen leakage 1%, hydrogen concentration is increased in the bottom of the system for 60 seconds. After 250 seconds, hydrogen concentration is reached the steady state in the system. As the vent opening of the total surface increased from 1% to 2%, averaged hydrogen mole fraction is under 1% in the system, however, upper regions of the system from the hydrogen leakage points are shown over 1% of hydrogen mole fraction.

  • Kerosene (Coal oil) is a particularly attractive fuel because it is widely used to power jet engines of aircraft as jet fuel and some rocket engine. This paper describes the performance and emission characteristics according to the collant temperature of combustion chamber head of spark ignition engine fuelled with kerosene. As a result, the following knowledge is obtained. As the collant temperature of combustion chamber head is decreased, torque, volumetric efficiency and brake specific fuel consumption have been increased. When coolant temperature of combustion chamber lower, THC emission increased but CO and $NO_x$ emission decreased.

  • Numerical simulations of unsteady opposed-flow flames are performed using an adaptive time integration method designed for differential-algebraic systems. The compressibility effect is considered in deriving the system of equations, such that the numerical difficulties associated with a high-index system are alleviated. The numerical method is implemented for systems with detailed chemical mechanisms and transport properties by utilizing the Chemkin software. Two test simulations are performeds hydrogen/air diffusion flames with an oscillatory strain rate and transient ignition of methane against heated air. Both results show that the rapid transient behavior is successfully captured by the numerical method.

  • The purpose of study is obtaining low-emission and high-efficiency in LPi engine with hydrogen enrichment. The test engine was named variable compression ratio single cylinder engine (VACRE). The fuel supply system provides LPG/hydrogen mixtures based on same heating value. A varied sensors such as crank shaft position sensor (CPS) and hall sensor supplies spark timing data to ignition controller. Displacement of VACRE is $1858.2cm^3$. VACRE was runned 1400rpm with compression ratio 8. Spark timing was set MBT without knocking. Relative air-fuel ratio($\lambda$) of this work was varied between 0,8 and 1.5.

  • Recent research has focused on alternative fuel to improve engine performance and to comply with emission regulation. Finding an alternative fuel and reducing environment pollution are the main goals for future internal combustion engines. The purpose of this study is to obtain low-emission and high-efficiency by hydrogen enriched CNG fuel in SI engine and is to clarify the effects of hydrogen enrichment in CNG fuelled engine on exhaust emission and performance. An experimental study was carried out to obtain fundamental data for performance and emission characteristics of hydrogen enrichment in SI engine. The experiment was conducted at 2500 rpm, bmep 2 bar, 4 bar conditions while CNG fuel was mixed with 10, 20 and 30% hydrogen blends. From the experimental results, combustion duration was shortened due to rapid flame propagation velocity of hydrogen and these were attributed to the burning velocity increasing exponentially with increasing hydrogen blending ratio. Hydrogen has much wider flammable limit than methane, gasoline and the minimum ignition energy is about an order of magnitude lower than for other combustion. By adding hydrogen, $CO_2$ and HC were reduced. However, $NO_X$ was increased dut to high rate of heat release for hydrogen substitutions.

  • A study on the H2O2 based low toxic hypergolic propellant was conducted. The fuel candidates were chosen as a mixture of Amine solvent and reactive additive. The analytical performance was calculated via the NASA CEA code and 96% Isp of the NTO/UDMH was confirmed. The ignition delay measurement with drop test was performed and all candidates showed less than 10 ms in the best performance cases. Based on these results, the feasibility of high response H2O2 based low toxic hypergolic propellant was confirmed.

  • Diesel engines with compression-ignition type have superior thermal efficiency, durability and reliability compared to gasoline engine. To control emitted gas from the engines, it can be applied to alternative fuel without any modification to the engine. Therefore, in this study, as a basic study for applying emulsified fuel to the actual diesel engine, analysis of spray behavior characteristics of emulsified fuel was carried out simultaneously by experimental and numerical method. The emulsified fuel consist of diesel, hydrogen peroxide, and surfactant. The surfactant for manufacturing emulsified fuel is comprised of span 80 and tween 80 mixed as 9:1 and fixed with 3% of the total volume of the emulsified fuel. In addition, six kinds of emulsified fuel(EF0, EF2, EF12, EF22, EF32, and EF42) were manufactured according to the mixing ratio of hydrogen peroxide. The droplet and spray experiments were performed to observe the behavior characteristics of the emulsified fuel. The numerical analysis was carried out using ANSYS CFX to confirm the microscopic behavior characteristics. Consequently, rapid mixture formation can be expected due to evaporation of hydrogen peroxide in emulsified fuel, and it is confirmed that Reitz&Diwakar breakup model is most suitable as breakup model to be applied to the numerical analysis.

  • Trends of the automotive market require the application of new engine technologies, which allows for the use of different types of fuel. Since ethanol is a renewable source of energy and it contributes to lower $CO_2$ emissions, ethanol produced from biomass is expected to increase in use as an alternative fuel. It is recognized that for spark ignition (SI) engines ethanol has advantages of high octane number and high combustion speed. In spite of the advantages of ethanol, fuel supply system might be affected by fuel blends with ethanol like a wear and corrosion of electric fuel pumps. So the on-board hydrogen production out of ethanol reforming can be considered as an alternative plan. This paper investigates the influence of ethanol fuel on SI engine performance, thermal efficiency and emissions. The combustion characteristics with hydrogen-enriched gaseous fuel from ethanol reforming are also examined.

This paper describes the performance and emission characteristics of ethanol and diesel blended fuels in a compression ignition engine. This experimental results showed that ethanol diesel blended fuels decreased the torque and brake mean effective pressure. And experimental results indicated that using ethanol-diesel blended fuel, smoke, CO and HC emissions decreased as a result of the ethanol addition.

  • This work experimentally investigates that Diesel-DME blended fuel influences combustion characteristics and emissions (NOx, CO, HC, smoke) in a single-cylinder DI diesel engine. Diesel is used as a main fuel and DME is blended for the use of its quick evaporating characteristics. Diesel and DME are blended by the method of weight ratio. Weight ratios for Diesel and DME are 95:5 and 90:10 respectively and the both ratios have been used altogether in blended fuel. The experiments are conducted in this study single cylinder engine is equipped with common rail and injection pressure is 700 bar at 1200 rpm. The amount of injected fuels is adjusted to obtain the fixed input calorie value as 972.2 J/cycle in order to compare with the fuel conditions. DME is compressed to 15 bar by using nitrogen gas thus it can be maintained the liquid phase. In this study, different system compared others paper is common rail system, also there is combustion and emission about compared DME and diesel fuel. It is expected to be utilized about blended fuel.
