When microorganism is injected into porous medium such as soils along with appropriate substrate and nutrients, biomass retained in the soil pore. Soil pore size and shape are varied from the initial condition as a result of biofilm formation, which make hydraulic conductivity reduced. In this research, hydraulic conductivity reduction was measured after microorganism are inoculated and cultured with synthetic substrates and nutrients. Biomass-soil mixture was evaluated its applicability to the field condition as an alternative liner material in landfill by measuring hydraulic conductivity change after repetitive freeze-thaw cycles. Resistance of biofilm to chemical solution and degree of biodegradation were measured through column test.
Impregnating with quality silicone water repellent on the concrete surface is an effective method of protecting concrete. Quality silicone water repellent has been widely used in the engineering profession because of its desirable properties such as hydrophobicity, keeping concrete breathable and preserving the original appearance of the concrete. The companies in China that produce silicone water repellent are listed. Test methods in the specifications or standards about silicone water repellent in China are summed. The test methods relative to durability of concrete impregnated with silicone water repellent (such as resistant to chloride ion penetration, resistant to alkali, resistance to freezing and thawing and weatherability etc.) and the constructive quality (such as water absorption rate, impregnating depth and the dry velocity coefficient etc.) are compared and analyzed. The results indicate that there are differences among test methods relative to different specifications with the same index and therefore, confusion has ensued when selecting test methods. All test methods with the exception of the method of water absorption rate by using a Karsten flask are not non-destructive methods or conducted in a laboratory. Finally, further research on silicone water repellent during application is proposed.

Aircraft hydraulic oil reservoirs made with aluminum 7075 have an anodized coating to enable airtightness and corrosion resistance. To maintain a stable oil pressure, the internal surface roughness of the reservoir should be less than approximately 0.2 ㎛. To this end, precision polishing must be performed. However, ensuring the processing quality is challenging, as most polishing operations are performed manually, owing to which, the inner surface roughness is not uniform, and the product quality is irregular. Therefore, we developed a special superfinishing machine to realize the efficient inner polishing of an aircraft hydraulic oil reservoir, by using an abrasive film to improve the process throughput and uniformity. In the experiment involving the superfinishing of an anodized aluminum 7075 cylinder specimen by using the proposed machine, a higher surface roughness than that achieved in the repetitive manual polishing process could be realized.

The main reason for its instability is sediment scouring downstream of hydraulic structures. Both physical and numerical models have been used to investigate the influence of soil properties on scour hole geometry. Nevertheless, no research has been conducted on resistance parameters that affect sedimentation and erosion. In addition, auxiliary structures like wing walls, which are prevalent in many real-world applications, have rarely been studied for their impact on morphology. The hydraulic characteristics of steady flow through a boxed culvert are calibrated using a 3D Computational Fluid Dynamics model compared with experimental data in this study, which shows a good agreement between water depth, velocity, and pressure profiles. Test cases showed that 0.015 m grid cells had the lowest NRMSE and MAE values. It is also possible to quantify sediment scour numerically by testing roughness/d50 ratios (cs) and diversion walls at a meander flume outlet. According to the findings, cs = 2.5 indicates a close agreement between numerical and analytical results of maximum scour depth after the culvert; four types of wing walls influence geometrical deformation of the meander flume outlet, resulting in erosion at the concave bank and deposition at the convex bank; two short headwalls are the most appropriate solution for accounting for small changes in morphology. A numerical model can be used to estimate sediment scour at the meander exit channel of hydraulic structures based on the roughness parameter of soil material and headwall type.

This paper proposes a hybrid machine-learning model, which is called DANN-IP, that combines a deep artificial neural network (DANN) and an interior-point (IP) algorithm in order to improve the prediction capacity on the patch loading resistance of steel plate girders. For this purpose, 394 steel plate girders that were subjected to patch loading were tested in order to construct the DANN-IP model. Firstly, several DANN models were developed in order to establish the relationship between the patch loading resistance and the web panel length, the web height, the web thickness, the flange width, the flange thickness, the applied load length, the web yield strength, and the flange yield strength of steel plate girders. Accordingly, the best DANN model was chosen based on three performance indices, which included the R^2, RMSE, and a20-index. The IP algorithm was then adopted to optimize the weights and biases of the DANN model in order to establish the hybrid DANN-IP model. The results obtained from the proposed DANN-IP model were compared with of the results from the DANN model and the existing empirical formulas. The comparison showed that the proposed DANN-IP model achieved the best accuracy with an R^2 of 0.996, an RMSE of 23.260 kN, and an a20-index of 0.891. Finally, a Graphical User Interface (GUI) tool was developed in order to effectively use the proposed DANN-IP model for practical applications.

Recently, there have been many studies about recycling cementitious powder from concrete waste(hereinafter referred to as waste powder), generated after recycle aggregate production. Previous studies showed that when the heating process of waste powder at $700^{\circ}C,\;Ca(OH)_2$ in paste is dehydrated making possible the restoration of hydraulic properties. Recycled cement with hydraulic properties restored is thought to be re-hydrated through the mechanism of hydration, which is almost similar in Portland cement. This clearly suggests that the hydrate of recycled cement is alkali in type. Like in general concrete, if recycled cement is used as a structural material, resistance performance against carbonation or neutralization by $CaCO_3$ in air probably would be most influential to the life of steel-reinforced concrete structure. Thus the purpose of this study is to make an experimental review on chemical properties of recycled cement, manufactured with concrete waste as base material, and investigate the durability of concrete using recycled cement through evaluating the cement s performance of resistance to carbonation in accordance with its accelerating age. Based on its results, further, the study seeks to provide basic information about ways of utilizing recycled cement.
A numerical model of hydraulic resistance by hanging aquaculture facilities is developed and applied to a model basin and a field. A drag stress term formulated by the quadratic law of drag force is introduced Tn the equations of motion for a two-dimensional depth-averaged flow. In the model basin, numerical experiments ave tarried out for the various shape of obstructions, string density and layout of facilities etc.. The flow pattern around the facilities is affected sensitively by the density of string and the layout of facilities. On the other hand, the velocity decay due to the hanging oyster aquaculture facilities is observed in Kamak bay, where the maximum velcocity decay rate is $25\%$ in spring tide. The model is also applied to the field, Kamak bay. The velocity decay rate in the model is comparable with the field measurement data. The velocity decreases around the down-stream area of the facilities, .hut it increases in the other region. The water elevation decreases during the flood and it increases during the ebb.
A spacer grid assembly, which is an interconnected array of slotted grid straps and is welded at the intersections to form an egg crate structure, is one of the main structural components of the nuclear fuel assembly for pressurized water reactors(PWRs). The spacer grid assembly is structurally required to have enough buckling strength under various kinds of lateral loads acting on the nuclear fuel assembly so as to keep the nuclear fuel assembly straight. And also, the spacer grid assembly is hydraulically required to have less hydraulic resistance of coolant. To meet this requirement, it is necessary to weld the welding parts carefully and precisely. In this study, weld qualities such as, weld bead size and spatter manufactured by various welders were compared and analyzed. And performance parameters such as impact strength of spacer grid and hydraulic resistance of coolant were also compared and analyzed. Comparison results show that the weld qualities could be improved by selecting the optimal welding condition and also improving the welding technique.

To evaluate the tidal flow around the transmission type harbour structures, the numerical models considering hydraulic resistance are used. The traditional governing equations of depth-integratef hydrodynamics are modified by using of the drag force term. As a numerical model to evaluate the rate of tidal exchange, the Random-walk method is used. The models are applied in a design of the pile-supported pier structures in Busan harbour site, Korea, where the flow speed and the tidal exchange are more promotive than the case of non-transmission structure. The developed model will be applied usefully to design the transmission type structure in the ocean space.
