Hydraulic excavators are the representative of field robot and have been used in various fields of construction. Since the excavator operates in the hazardous working environment, operators of excavator are exposed in harmful environment. Therefore, the hydraulic excavator automation and remote operation system has been investigated to protect from the hazardous working environment. In this paper, remote operation excavator system is developed using the mini hydraulic excavator and the tracking control system of each links of excavator is designed. To apply the tracking control system, the adaptive sliding mode control algorithm is proposed. It is found that the performance of the proposed control system is improved through experimental results of using the remote operation excavator system.
The purpose of this paper is to construct a computer simulation system which can analyze and design the hydraulic excavator Theoretical analyses are performed on the hydraulic circuit and attachment of excavator with load sensing system. Databases are constructed for control valve opening areas, horsepower control and for load sensing regulator. For hydraulic components modularized programming techniques are applied which is expected to be utilized for software development of fluid power system. Through simulation an information of any point in hydraulic circuit can be obtained.
This paper presents an energy saving hydrostatic pressure exchanger for sea water desalination equipment. In a reverse osmosis(RO) system for desalinating sea water, more than 70 percent of the supplied sea water, brines which were impassable through RO membrane are bypassed, resulting in high energy losses. In this paper, a hydrostatic pressure exchanger consisting of an embedded water hydraulic piston motor and a water hydraulic piston pump was proposed and investigated in order to recover the energy of the bypassed brines. The pressurized brines are supplied to the embedded water hydraulic piston motor as power sources and the water hydraulic piston pump is driven by the output torque of the embedded water hydraulic piston motor as well as electric motor. Consequently, the energy of the bypassed brines can be recovered. To examine the electric energy saving characteristics of the hydrostatic pressure exchanger, a simulation model was constructed using commercial software and experiments were conducted. Through the results of simulation and experiment, the feasibility of the electric energy saving effect of the proposed hydrostatic pressure exchanger was investigated.
Automatic power transmission systems consisted of a torque converter and several planetary gear sets, clutches and brakes are controlled by a hydraulic shift control circuit and an electronic transmission control unit. The hydraulic circuit serves for the operation of the torque converter and lubrication oil supply of the transmission system as well as for the actuation of clutches for the automatic gear shift. The complicated hydraulic control circuit constructed by many spools, solenoids, orifices and flow passages are integrated into one small valve block and it is powered by one hydraulic pump. In this paper, a test equipment was developed to measure the oil consumption of each component at various wide operating conditions. Test data about 730 sets acquired from five test items are analyzed and discussed on the oil capacity of the circuit.
High performance small and mid-sized tractors are required for dryland and orchard operations. A power transmission system is the most important issue for the design of high performance tractors. Many operations, such as loading and lifting, use hydraulic power. In the present study, a hydraulic power transmission system for the 3-point hitch of a 50 kW narrow tractor was developed and its performance was evaluated. First, major components were designed based on target design parameters. Target operations were spraying, weeding, and transportation. Main design parameters were determined through mathematical calculation and computer simulation. The capacity of the hydraulic cylinder was calculated taking the lifting force required for the weight of the implements into consideration. Then, a prototype was fabricated. Major components were the lifting valve, hydraulic cylinder, and 3-point hitch. Finally, performance was evaluated through laboratory tests. Tests were conducted using load weights, lift arm sensor, and lift arm height from the ground. Test results showed that the lifting force was in the range of 23.5 - 29.4 kN. This force was greater than lifting forces of competing foreign tractors by 3.9 - 4.9 kN. These results satisfied the design target value of 20.6 kN, determined by survey of advanced foreign products. The prototype will be commercialized after revision based on various field tests. Improvement of reliability should be also achieved.
Turbine power control devices at a nuclear / thermoelectric power plant lead to failure by creating mechanical shocks and strong vibrations that are due to the strong elasticity of a spring and the inertia of the valve face during its rapid movement to block steam. To ensure durability of the turbine power control device, which is the main component in the power plant, it is necessary to develop a device that can prevent such vibrations. In this study, a cushion mechanism is added to the head of the hydraulic servo actuator, which is a turbine power control device. Moreover, the cushion mechanism, which includes various modifies shapes and orifices is investigated dynamically through modeling and simulations.
The Second Shutdown Drive Mechanism (SSDM) provides an alternate and independent means of reactor shutdown. The Second Shutdown Rods (SSRs) of SSDMs are poised at the top of the core by the hydraulic force driven from a hydraulic system during normal operation. The rods drop by gravity when a trip is commended by a Reactor Protection System, Alternate Protection System, Automatic Seismic Trip System or operator by means of power off solenoid valves of hydraulic system. This paper describes the test results of seismic qualification of a prototype SSDM hydraulic system to demonstrate that its structural integrity and operability (functionality) are maintained during and after seismic excitations, that is, an adequacy of the SSDM design. From the results, this paper shows that the SSDM hydraulic system satisfies all its design requirements without any malfunctions during and after seismic excitations.
The study deals with controlling the velocity of hydraulic motor with PI controller through the control of displacement pump which has higher efficiency than valve-controlled system. This was done as follows. First, we modified original displacement pump and designed this electrohydraulic puma system. Second, after experimenting static and dynamic characteristics, we identified system parameter of approximated model. Lastly, to control the velocity of hydraulic motor we controlled the angle of the swash plate of displacement pump. Test carried out in the laboratory shows that transient and steady state response could be improved by PI controller reducing power loss.
Most power steering systems work by using a hydraulic system to turn the vehicle's wheels. The pressure is usually provided by a hydraulic pump driven by the vehicle's engine. A double-acting hydraulic cylinder applies a force to the steering gear, which in turn applies a torque to the steering axis of the road wheels. The flow to the cylinder is controlled by valves operated by the steering wheel ; the more torque the driver applies to the steering wheel and the shaft it is attached to, the more fluid the valves allow through to the cylinder, and so the more force is applied to steer the wheels in the appropriate direction. Since the pumps employed are of the positive displacement type, the flow rate they deliver is directly proportional to the speed of the engine. And for a long time, the type of hydraulic pump pulley was boss welding type. But recently, monolith type driving pulley is widely used. Therefore in this paper we studied the safety of monolith type driving pulley to the extracting force and endurance by FEM analysis and experiments.
