  • Changes of the hydraulic conductivity resulting from the redistribution of stresses by underground excavation are examined using the strain-dependent hydraulic conductivity modification relation, where the modulus reduction ratio and induced strain are the major parameters. The modulus reduction ratio is defined in terms of RMR(Rock Mass Rating) to represent the full gamut of rock mass condition. Though shear dilation has the effect on the modification of hydraulic conductivity, the extent of it depends on RMR When the extensional strain is applied to a fracture, the hydraulic conductivity increases with the decrease of RMR Loading configuration has the effect on the modification of hydraulic conductivity, where the differential stress mode with a magnitude of the minimum principal stress $($\sigma$_x)$ fixed and a magnitude of the maximum principal stress $($\sigma$_y)$ varied is found to exert the greatest effect on the change of hydraulic conductivity.

  • In this study, a newly modified 3-dimensional strain-dependent hydraulic conductivity modification relation which incorporates the influences of normal deformation and shear dilation is suggested. Since rock mass is simulated as a orthogonally jointed medium, an anisotropic hydraulic conductivity field can be evaluated using that relation. The empirical relationship on the basis of GSI and disturbance factor has been used to estimate the value of a modulus reduction ratio (ratio of rock mass deformation modulus to rock matrix elastic modulus). Principal hydraulic conductivity directions is not generally coincident with the global coordinate due to the inclining of joint and the influence of joint inclination is evaluated under strain rotation. Result shows that change of hydraulic conductivity does decreases with the increase of GSI and disturbance factor has much effects on the hydraulic conductivity of rock mass getting GSI value above 50. It is found that the inclination of joint impacts on the variation of hydraulic conductivity.

  • This paper describes the friction surface modification which has been successfully developed with the friction stir welding recently There are several problems including just position control and backlash in conventional friction surface modification system. Therefore it has been developed the friction surface modification system which has been controlled precisely both position and force by driving hydraulic cylinder in this paper. The mechtrode rotation speed(N) and feeding speed(Vz), travel speed(Vx,y) are of critical importance for the width and thickness of the coating in friction surfacing process. But there is no theoretical method of determining interrelations between process parameters affect the coating width and thickness. As a result of DOE(design of experiment) with developed system, the coating thickness and width seemed to decrease according to increase the mechtrode rotation speed(N) and traveling speed(Vx,y), to decrease feeding speed(Vz) apparently. However as the result of regression analysis the main effect was only the mechtrode rotation speed in the coating thickness.

  • In this study, a simulation model developed for a hydraulic breaker is verified through comparison of simulation results to the experimental results. For performance optimization, the design parameters are selected based on the physical parameters of the equipment for ease of modification. Also a factorial experiment and regression analysis were conducted to observe the effect of each parameter on the performance of the hydraulic breaker. As a result, a method for optimizing the performance of a hydraulic breaker is proposed.

  • In order to suggest the methodology for improving the equity of flow distribution in open channel with multiple outlet, CFD simulations were carried out for actual scale distribution channel being operated in domestic G_WTP(Water Treatment Plant). Also, before and after installing the longitudinal multi hole(diameter=250 mm, 116 holes) baffle suggested by this research, turbidity measurements data were collected for evaluating the effects of hydraulic modification for inlet flow equity. From the both results, total turbidity of settled water was lowered by 30 % and equity of flow distribution was improved about 60 % compared with before hydraulic structure modification.

  • In this study, the movable bed model testing was carried out so as to analyze bed profile changes including predicting scouring and deposition of bed profile and to solve hydraulic problems affecting with bed and both-bank between upstream and downstream of intake weir in the Nakdong river channel. The movable bed model testing consists of fundamental test, movable model test and numerical analysis method respectively. The fundamental test was enforced to analyze relationship of discharge and sediment load in the tilting flume. When the movable model test was worked, it was shown that sediment budget between input sediment load and output sediment load was balanced exactly. As a result of movable model test, it was presented that scouring and deposition changes in quantities between the upstream and downstream of modification weir were less than those of nature and planning weir. Finally, numerical analysis method was operated by 1-dimensional bed profile changes model ; HEC-6 model so as to complement unsolving hard problems during movable model test. So, modification weir will sustained the stable bed profile changes than any other weirs in the study channel.

  • As a conventional line-fitting method, the Bouwer and Rice method has been popularly adopted to estimate the hydraulic conductivity of an aquifer through a slug test. Because a ventical cutoff wall is usually very compressible and features a small wall thickness, the Bouwer and Rice method should be carefully used for the vertical cutoff wall. In addition, a relatively impermeable layer, called a filter cake, formed at the interface between the cutoff wall and the natural soil formation makes it difficult to use the Bouwer and Rice method directly. In order to overcome such limitations, the original Bouwer and Rice method is modified by incorporating the concept of the flow net method. In this modification, the geometry condition of cutoff walls including the filter cake is effectively considered in evaluating the hydraulic conductivity of a vertical cutoff wall.

  • The high velocity oxygen fuel spraying (HVOF) is a kind of surface modification process technology to form the sprayed coating layer after spraying the powder to molten or semi-molten state by the ultra-high speed at the high-temperature heat source and conflicting with a substrate. It is desirable to melt completely the thermal spray powder in order to produce the coating layer with an optimal adhesion, however, because a semi-molten powder in a spray process has the low efficiency and become a factor that degrades the mechanical property by the inducement of pore-forming within the coating layer. To improve the wear resistance, corrosion resistance and heat resistance, in this study, the plungers of high-speed and ultra-high pressure reciprocating hydraulic pumps for oil and water used in ironwork are produced with $420J_2$ and the coating layers of plungers are formed by the powders of WC-Co-Cr and WC-Cr-Ni including the high hardness WC. The surface of these plungers is modified by the super-mirror face grinding machine using variable air pressure developed in this laboratory, and then the characteristics of cross-sectional microstructure, and surface roughness and hardness values between no operation and 100 days-operation are examined and made a comparison. The fine tops and bottoms on surface roughness curve of oil-hydraulic pump plunger sprayed by WC-Cr-Ni are molded more and higher than those of water-hydraulic pump sprayed by WC-Co-Cr because the plunger diameter of oil-hydraulic pump is 0.4 times smaller than that of water-hydraulic pump and the pressure of oil-hydraulic pump exerted on the plunger is operated with the 70 bars higher than that of water-hydraulic pump. As a result, it is found that the values of centerline average surface roughness and maximum height for oil-hydraulic pump plunger are bigger than those of water-hydraulic pump plunger.

  • An electro-hydraulic manipulator using hydraulic actuators has many nonlinear elements, and its parameter fluctuations are greater than those of an electrically driven manipulator. So it is relatively difficult to realize not only stable contact work but also accurate force control for the autonomous assembly tasks using hydraulic manipulators. In this report, we applied a compliance control which is based on the position control by a disturbance observer for our manipulator system. And a reference trajectory modification method is proposed in order to achieve accurate force control even though the stiffness and position of environment change. Experimental results show that highly robust force tracking by a 6-link electro-hydraulic manipulator could be achieved under various environment conditions.

  • Recently, there has been increasing concern regarding the collapse of hydraulic structures due to abnormal climate conditions. Therefore, numerous studies of the collapse of hydraulic structures have been carried out. In particular, the velocity of the propagation of a flood wave-front is important for predicting the inundation safety and establishing an EAP (Emergency Action Plan). Although many hydraulic tests have been conducted for precise predictions of a flood wave-front, the scale effect from downsizing has not considered. In this study, the relationships between surface tension and the concentration of surfactant, between surface tension and the velocity of flood wave propagation, and between surface tension and the Weber Number were derived through hydraulic tests using a surfactant and image analysis equipment. Based on these relations, the modification factor for the scale effect of the front of flood wave propagation was suggested. The results highlight the necessity of a modification factor when the Weber Number is lower than 12.2, but the scale effect can be ignored when the Weber Number over 12.2.
