A Study on Educational Contents of Hybrid Electric Vehicle Using Real Time Monitoring System (실시간 모니터링 시스템을 이용한 하이브리드 자동차 교육용 콘텐츠에 관한 연구)

  • Recently, Hybrid Electric Vehicle(: HEV) is in the spotlight to global warming caused by carbon dioxide and emission reduction. HEV consists of a combination of mechanical engine and electric motor system. The flow of energy required to drive a HEV depends on the driving conditions of the vehicle. In this paper, we study the contents of HEV education using real-time monitoring system. A real-time monitoring system consisting of hardware and virtual programs is used to simulate the overall operation of a HEV through simulations according to driving conditions and to explain how to learn through hardware.

Breeding of Tobacco Mosaic Virus Resistant Flue-cured Tobacco Variety KF114 (담배 모자이크 바이러스(TMV)병에 저항성인 황색종 연초신품종 KF114 육성)

  • Tobacco mosaic virus (TMV), TMV-common strain, causes severe damage on flue-cured tobacco in Korea. As the results, breeding programs were conducted to transfer the TMV resistance from NC567 to other cultivars. Advantage of F1, hybrid may not lie only in their heterotic value but also in directly combining of valuable dominant traits, e.g. for disease resistance, either in pairs or as groups already assembled in the two parents. A new TMV resistant flue-cured tobacco variety KF114 was developed from a cross as maternal parent MSNC567 and NC82 at the Suwon Experiment Station. KF114 was more vigorous growth characteristics in early stage than that of NC82, standard variety in Korea, and other characters were similar to those of NC82. It os high resistance to TMV, but bacterial wilt(Pseudomonas solanacerum) and black shank (Phytophthora parasitica var. nicotianae) is comparable to NC82. It should adapt well to the flue-cured production area and can reduce premature flowering under unfavorable weather conditions. Yield of KF114 is 1% to 5% higher, and nearly equal in value per KG compared with NC82. This variety, F1 hybrid, met acceptable standards for chemical and physical characteristics of cured leaf and high ranked good smoking taste by panel members in Korea Ginseng and Tobacco Research Institute.

Chicken Breeding with Local Breeds in China - A Review

  • This paper reviews the meat-type chicken breeding with local breeds in China. The quality chickens are defined as purebred final products of local breeds, and semi-quality chickens as crossbreds of local breeds with specialized broiler (sire or dam) lines from western breeding organizations. The present status of the chicken production and the market in China, in comparison with the western countries, is reviewed, indicating that there is large market demand for (semi-) quality chickens in the present and future China. Breeding for (semi-) quality chickens emphasizes the sensory quality of chicken meat. The present status of breeding for (semi-) quality chickens with the local breeds is illustrated, including breeding goals and the existing breeding programs. The potential role of local breeds in breeding programs in China is discussed in relation to both providing higher quality (than commercial hybrid broilers) of chicken meat for the local market and meeting the objectives of genetic resource conservation. Besides, further research topics on breeding for (semi-) quality chickens are suggested.

Application and utilization of marker assisted selection for biotic stress resistance in hybrid rice (Oryza sativa L.)

  • Development of disease resistant plant is one of the important objectives in rice breeding programs because biotic stresses can adversely affect rice growth and yield losses. This study was conducted to identify lines with multiple-resistance genes to biotic stress among 173 hybrid rice breeding lines and germplasms using DNA-based markers. Our results showed that one hybrid rice line [IR98161-2-1-1-k1-3 (IR86409-3-1-1-1-1-1/IRBB66)] possessed 5 bacterial blight resistance genes (Xa4, xa5, Xa7, Xa13 and Xa21) while two hybrid rice lines [IR98161-2-1-1-k1-2 (IR86409-3-1-1-1-1-1/IRBB66) and 7292s (IR75589-31-27-8-33S(S1)/IR102758B)] possessed 3 bacterial blight resistance genes (Xa4, Xa7 and Xa21, and Xa3, Xa4 and xa5). Molecular survey on rice blast disease revealed that most of these lines had two different resistant genes. Only 11 lines possessed Pib, Pi-5, and Pi-ta. In addition, we further surveyed the distribution of insect resistant genes, such as Bph1, Bph18(t), and Wbph. Three hybrid breeding lines [IR98161-2-1-1-k1-3 (IR86409-3-1-1-1-1-1/IRBB66), IR98161-2-1-1-k1-2 (IR86409-3-1-1-1-1-1/IRBB66), and 7292s (IR75589-31-27-8-33S(S1) /IR102758B)] contained all three resistance genes. Finally, we obtained four hybrid rice breeding lines and germplasms [IR98161-2-1-1-k1-2 (IR86409-3-1-1-1-1-1/IRBB66), Damm-Noeub Khmau, 7290s, and 7292s (IR75589-31-27-8-33S(S1)/IR102758B)] possessing six-gene combination. They are expected to provide higher level of multiple resistance to biotic stress. This study is important for genotyping hybrid rice with resistance to diverse diseases and pests. Results obtained in this study suggest that identification of pyramided resistance genes is very important for screening hybrid rice breeding lines and germplasms accurately for disease and pest resistance. We will expand their cultivation safely through bioassays against diseases, pests, and disaster in its main export countries.

  • In this paper, we introduce three subgradient extragradient algorithms for solving pseudomonotone equilibrium problems. The paper originates from the subgradient extragradient algorithm for variational inequalities and the extragradient method for pseudomonotone equilibrium problems in which we have to solve two optimization programs onto feasible set. The main idea of the proposed algorithms is that at every iterative step, we have replaced the second optimization program by that one on a specific half-space which can be performed more easily. The weakly and strongly convergent theorems are established under widely used assumptions for bifunctions.

Enhanced Bone-Regenerative Performance of Porous Hybrid Scaffolds by Surface Immobilization of Nano-Hydroxyapatite

  • Nano-hydroxyapatite (N-HAp)has shown the pivotal role in producing bone-regenerative materials since it has similarity to natural bone minerals in terms of size, morphology, and the composition. Currently, the combination of biopolymers and N-HAp is recognizedas an attractive approach in generating hybrid scaffolds for bone tissueengineering. Surface engineering is an important issue since it determines whether cells can effectively adhere and proliferate on porous scaffolds. We aim to develop a synthetic approach to porous 3D scaffolds by immobilizing N-HAp on pore surfaces. The discrete nano-level anchoring of N-HAp on the scaffold pore surface is achieved using surface-repellent stable colloidal N-HAp with surface phosphate functionality. This rational surface engineering enables surface-anchored N-HAp to express its overall intrinsic bioactivity,since N-HAp is not phase-mixed with the polymers. The porous polymer scaffolds with surface-immobilized N-HAp provide more favorable environments thanconventional bulk phase-mixed polymer/N-HAp scaffolds in terms of cellular interaction and growth. In vitro biological evaluation using alkalinephosphatase activity assay supports that immobilized N-HAp on pore surfaces of polymer scaffolds contributed to the more enhanced in vitro osteogenicpotential. Besides, the scaffolds with surface-exposed N-HAp provide favorable environments for enhanced in vivo bone tissue growth, estimated by characteristic biomarkers of bone formation such as collagen. The results suggest that newly developed hybrid scaffolds with surface-immobilized N-HApmay serve as a useful 3D substrate with pore surfaces featuring excellent bonetissue-regenerative properties.   • The landscape of Christian higher education is changing. Students once spent most of their time in a traditional classroom with a professor, but now they take online and hybrid courses (face to face and online). Some students complete their entire degree in a fully online program. Nearly every type of college in the United States offers online courses. Online learning has clearly moved from a fad to a fixture, and nowhere is that more apparent than at one of the largest universities in the country. As the demand for online course and programs increase, teachers and administrators in Christian universities and colleges face new challenges. Even though some teachers and administrators still believe online education is inferior to traditional face-to-face learning, we found no statistically significant differences in standard measures of learning outcomes between students in the traditional classes and students in the hybrid-online format classes. In this situation, since online education will develop continuously, Christian universities should utilize it variously through complete understanding and research about it predicting the future of online education style.

A Hybrid Value Predictor using Speculative Update of the Predictor Table and Static Classification for the Pattern of Executed Instructions in Superscalar Processors (슈퍼스칼라 프로세서에서 예상 테이블의 모험적 갱신과 명령어 실행 유형의 정적 분류를 이용한 혼합형 결과값 예측기)

  • We propose a new hybrid value predictor which achieves high performance by combining several predictors. Because the proposed hybrid value predictor can update the prediction table speculatively, it efficiently reduces the number of mispredicted instructions due to stale data. Also, the proposed predictor can enhance the prediction accuracy and efficiently decrease the hardware cost of predictor, because it allocates instructions into the best-suited predictor during instruction fetch stage by using the information of static classification which is obtained from the profile-based compiler implementation. For the 16-issue superscalar processors, simulation results based on the SimpleScalar/PISA tool set show that we achieve the average prediction rates of 73% by using speculative update and the average prediction rates of 88% by adding static classification for the SPECint95 benchmark programs.

Screening Resistance to Crown Gall Disease by Pathogen Inoculation in Muscadine and Florida Hybrid Grapes (병원균 접종에 의한 Muscadine 및 플로리다 교잡종 포도의 줄기혹병 저항성 검정)

  • It is necessary to evaluate the resistance to disease among genetic resources for development of disease resistant grapes. This study was conducted to screen the resistance to crown gall in muscadine and Florida hybrid bunch grapes by pathogen inoculation. In order to compare the responses to infection with different pathogen strains, muscadine and Florida hybrid grapes were inoculated with 3 strains of Agrobacterium vitis. Although there were different levels crown gall formation among grape cultivars, there little variation in response to inoculated strains. Among 29 muscadine cultivars tested by inoculation of A. vitis 'C4612', most of them were shown to be susceptible, and 'Gold Isle' and 'Africa Queen' were highly susceptible, and two cultivars, 'Welder' and 'Jumbo' were found to be resistant to crown gall disease. Among Florida hybrid grapes, 'Daytona', 'Stover', and 'Swanee' were susceptible and 'Blanc du Bois' was moderately susceptible to crown gall. Because muscadine grapes have been actively utilized as useful genetic resources for development of new grape varieties by intersub-genus cross, this result from the screening of resistance among muscadine grapes can provide valuable information in breeding programs of grape resistant to crown gall.

  • The current web implementation largely falls into process-oriented and object-oriented methods. Both ways implement the programs to be used for simple design of external outfit and auxiliary function of hybrid webs and it might lead to cost problems arising from waste of time and man-power to develop with it. Therefore, managed structural system programming which can be applied under .NET framework is suggested in a bid to solve these problems. The structural system design method under .NET environment by applying CS concept prefers to adopting the optimized design configuration suited to proper interfaces of UI configuration, which offers the environment to maintain the inheritance relationship by taking form of the balanced class allotment by domain, and continue to keep the connectivity between UX and UI which leads to application of interface of UX objects as form of objects through connection with objects in class design process. This development method enables programs to be implemented focused on representation methods of UI and UX, and helps relieve much of the burden on development costs.
