Combustion Characteristics of Hybrid Rocket Fuel with Tapered Grain Port Shape (경사진 포트 형상을 가진 하이브리드 로켓 연료의 연소 특성)

  • In this study, the combustion characteristics of hybrid rocket fuel with tapered grain port were studied. The regression rate was increased about 17.5% by using the convergence port shape fuel. On the other hand, in case of divergence port shape fuel, any notable difference of regression rate was not observed when compared with regression rate of the cylindrical port shape fuel. Also, in case of convergence port shape fuel, characteristic velocity efficiency was increased. From these results, one can notice that convergence port shape of hybrid rocket fuel can be effective configuration in terms of improvement of combustion efficiency and performance.

  • The four-port coupler circuit consists of input port, isolation port and two output ports. When it inserts a signal at the input port and the isolation port, the magnitude and phase of the output signal at two output ports are decided by the magnitude and phase of the input signal. This paper analyzes the output signal characteristic of two output ports due to the input signal magnitude and phase of two input ports using the typical 4-port coupler circuit, Branchline hybrid coupler and Ring-hybrid coupler. And, it studies about new way to use branchline hybrid coupler and ring-hybrid coupler on the basis of the this information.

  • In this paper, the combustion characteristics of hybrid rocket fuel with tapered grain port were investigated experimentally. The charging efficiency of convergent and divergent port shape fuel with $1^{\circ}$ taper angle was 6.8% higher than that of cylindrical port shape fuel. The regression rate was increased about 17.5% by using the convergent port shape fuel. On the other hand, in case of divergent port shape fuel, no notable difference of regression rate was observed when compared to that of the cylindrical port shape fuel. In the case of convergent port shape fuel, characteristic velocity and its efficiency were notably increased with respect to cylindrical port fuel. It was found that convergent port shape of hybrid rocket fuel can lead to a better option compared to the conventional cylindrical port in terms of combustion efficiency and performance improvement.

  • An input and output buffering ATM switch conventionally operates in either Queueloss mode or Backpressure mode. Recently, a new mode, which is called Hybrid mode, was proposed to overcome the drawbacks of Queueloss mode and Backpressure mode. In Hybrid mode, when both the destined output buffer and the originfted input buffer are full, a cell is dropped. This thesis analyzes the cell loss rate and the cell delay of Queueloss, Backpressure and Hybrid modes in a switch adopting output-port expansion scheme under uniform traffic. Output-port expansion scheme allows only one cell from an input buffer to be switched during one time slot. If several cells switch to a same destined output port, the number of maximum transfer cells is restricted to K (Output-port expansion ratio). The simulation results show that if an offered load is less than 0.9, Hybrid mode has lower cell loss rate than the other modes; otherwise, Queueloss mode illustrates the lowest cell loss rate, which is a different result from previous researches. However, the difference between Hybrid and Queueloss modes is comparably small. As expected, the average cell delay in Backpressure mode is lower than those of Queueloss mode and Hybrid mode, since the cell delay due to the retransmission of higher number of dropped cells in Backpressure mode is not considered.

  • The direct conversion method is classified into the structure using the mixing technology and six-port scheme. In the view point of complexity and integration the direct conversion method using the six-port scheme is superior to that with mixing technology. Expecially, the six-port direct conversion technology provides the low power consumption and the broad-band characteristic. In this paper, the six-port direct conversion receiver with the branch-line coupler and the ring hybrid coupler is desisted respectively. The performances of the designed six-port schemes are analyzed and the six-port scheme with superior performance characteristics is proposed.

  • The forecast of a container traffic has been very important for port plan and development. Generally, statistic methods, such as regression analysis, ARIMA, have been much used for traffic forecasting. Recent research activities in forecasting with artificial neural networks(ANNs) suggest that ANNs can be a promising alternative to the traditional linear methods. In this paper, a hybrid methodology that combines both ARIMA and ANN models is proposed to take advantage of the unique strength of ARIMA and ANN models in linear and nonlinear modeling. The results with port traffic data indicate that effectiveness can differ according to the characteristics of ports.

  • This study was conducted to propose an effective port operation method in terms of the design capacity of waiting anchorage by comparing the ratio and the number of waiting anchorage according to the port operation method of Busan New Port. For this, the Arena simulation program compared the rates of waiting vessels according to the application of the multi-user terminal, liner terminal and hybrid liner terminal operation methods. As a result, analysis suggested the necessary anchorage space can be reduced to about 18 % when using the multi-user terminal operation method and about 15.6 % when using the hybrid liner terminal operation method, as compared with the liner terminal operation method. Specifically, it was effective to apply the multi-user terminal operation method in terms of the anchorage capacity to be designated to Busan New Port. This study can apply to the designation of the new anchorage in the Busan New Port by reflecting the contents of the design of the anchorage in accordance with the port operation method.

  • In this paper, thermal sensitivity of the solid fuel grain in the hybrid rocket motor was investigated. When the heat from the non-reacting hot flow passing the grain ports is transferred to the solid fuel grain, the temperature fields in the solid fuel was numerically analyzed. These numerical analyzes were performed under the different nine port radii, and the critical distance between the ports in which the temperature in the solid fuel is sensibly responding was determined. Thus, the critical distance between the ports would be the important consideration for the design of the fuel grain because the high temperature in the fuel can bring the structural problems.
