The objective of this study was to increase the generating efficiency of concentrated photovoltaics (CPV) by using hybrid solar tracking. Further, the proposed system was demonstrated to have the ability to extract thermal energy from a concentrated photovoltaic system by using thermal absorbers containing heat pipe, which could then be used for a heating system or hot-water supply. The average electrical efficiency was 16 during the day, and the average thermal efficiency was 62. Therefore, this system demonstrated a total efficiency (electrical thermal) of 78. All the processes, i.e., tracking of the sun, calculation of the sun's position, reinstatement of the heating device toward the east for tracking on the next day, and system shutdown, were programmed using Simulink. A parametric analysis of the heat pipe, concentration ratio, and inlet velocity was also performed in terms of the operating temperature of the CPV and the outlet temperature. The simulation and experimental results for the thermal absorber were found to be in good agreement.

Piezoelectric energy harvesting technologies, which can be used to convert the electricity from the mechanical energy, have been developed in order to assist or power the wearable electronics. To realize non-toxic and biocompatible electronics, the lead-free (Ba0.85Ca0.15)(Ti0.90Zr0.10)O3 (BCTZ) nanoparticles (NPs) are being studied with a great attention as flexible energy harvesting device. Herein, piezoelectric hybrid nanocomposites were fabricated using BCTZ NPs-embedded poly(vinylidene fluoride-trifluoroethylene) [P(VDF-TrFE)] matrix to improve the performance of flexible energy harvester. Output performance of the fabricated energy device was investigated by the well-optimized measurement system during the periodically bending and releasing motions. The generated open-circuit voltage and the short-circuit current of the piezoelectric hybrid nanocomposite-based energy harvester reached up to ~15 V and ~1.1 ㎂, respectively; moreover, the instantaneous power of 3.5 ㎼ is determined from load voltage and current at the external load of 20 MΩ. This research is expected to cultivate a new approach to high-performance wearable self-powering electronics.
Cell separation from a heterogenous mixture sample is an essential process for downstream analysis in biological, chemical, and clinical applications. This study demonstrates an integrated hybrid device of the viscoelastic focusing in a straight rectangular channel and subsequent size-based separation using acoustophoresis to attain high efficiency and separation tunability. For particle pre-alignment in a viscoelastic fluid, the flow rate higher than 10 μl/min was required. Surface acoustic wave-based lateral migration of particles with different sizes (13 and 27 ㎛) was examined at various applied voltages and flow rate conditions. Therefore, the flow rate of 100 μl/min and the applied voltage of 20 Vpp can be used for size-based particle separation.

In this paper, we proposed the architecture of the Hybrid Quadrature Polar transmitter which has the wideband characteristics available for the SRD(Short Range Device). First, we developed the simulation environment and carried out performance degradation analysis. Second, we considered the slewrate of the VVA(Voltage Variable Attenuator), time delay between magnitude signal and phase signal and the number of bits for DAC(Digital-to-Analog Converter) as the main performance factors. Then we obtained the minimum required values to meet the transmitting performance requirements of 3GPP standards through simulation results. Based on these results, we implemented the Wideband Hybrid Quadrature Polar transmitter platform and varified the performance requirements through practical measurement.

Purpose: Apical muscular ventricular septal defects (MVSDs), especially in small infants, can be difficult to manage using surgical and percutaneous closure. An intraoperative perventricular procedure is a good option for closing apical MVSDs in small children with or without associated cardiac anomalies. We evaluated the results of hybrid perventricular closure of apical MVSDs performed using an Amplatzer duct occluder (ADO). Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 5 patients who underwent hybrid perventricular closure of MVSDs with ADOs, from March 2006 to May 2011. The median patient age at the time of the procedure was 12 months (range, 25 days to 25 months), and the median body weight was 9.1 kg (range, 4.3 to 15 kg). Two patients had multiple ventricular septal defects (VSDs; additional perimembranous VSD in 1 patient and multiple MVSDs in the other) and 3 patients had associated cardiac anomalies; complete transposition of the great arteries in 1 patient and an atrial septal defect in 2 patients. All the procedures were performed on beating hearts, exception in 1 case. The ADO selected for the aortic side was at least 1 to 2 mm larger than the largest VSD in the left ventricle side. Results: The procedure was successful in all patients and each device was well positioned. During the median follow-up of 2.4 years, a small residual VSD was noted in 2 patients who had multiple VSDs and no leakage was seen in the other 3 patients. Conclusion: Perventricular closure of MVSD with an ADO is a good option for patients with apical MVSD. However, careful manipulation is important, especially in the case of small infants.

In this paper, we propose BLOCS algorithm to find sequence of data that should be saved in cache device of hybrid storage system which uses SSD as a cache device. BLOCS algorithm which uses a sequence pattern mining scheme, creates a set of frequently requested sectors with respect to requested order of sectors. To compare the performance of the proposed scheme, we introduce Distance (DIST) based scheme, Request Frequency (FREQ) based scheme, and Frequency times Size (F-S) based scheme. We measure the hit ratio and I/O latency of different caching schemes using hybrid storage caching simulator. We acquired booting workload along with ten scenarios of launching applications and use the workloads as input to the cache simulator. After experiment with booting workload, we find that BLOCS scheme gives hit ratio of 61% which is about 15% higher than the least performing DIST scheme.

A zinc oxide (ZnO) hybrid structure was successfully fabricated on a glass substrate by metal organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD). In-situ growth of a multi-dimensional ZnO hybrid structure was achieved by adjusting the growth temperature to determine the morphologies of either film or nanorods without any catalysts such as Au, Cu, Co, or Sn. The ZnO hybrid structure was composed of one-dimensional (1D) nanorods grown continuously on the two-dimensional (2D) ZnO film. The ZnO film of 2D mode was grown at a relatively low temperature, whereas the ZnO nanorods of 1D mode were grown at a higher temperature. The change of the morphologies of these materials led to improvements of the electrical and optical properties. The ZnO hybrid structure was characterized using various analytical tools. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to determine the surface morphology of the nanorods, which had grown well on the thin film. The structural characteristics of the polycrystalline ZnO hybrid grown on amorphous glass substrate were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD). Hall-effect measurement and a four-point probe were used to characterize the electrical properties. The hybrid structure was shown to be very effective at improving the electrical and the optical properties, decreasing the sheet resistance and the reflectance, and increasing the transmittance via refractive index (RI) engineering. The ZnO hybrid structure grown by MOCVD is very promising for opto-electronic devices as Photoconductive UV Detectors, anti-reflection coatings (ARC), and transparent conductive oxides (TCO).
There are several types of environment friendly vehicle being developed by auto manufactures. HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicle) is most applicable one among them in actuality. HEV has two power sources, one is an internal combustion engine, the other one is an electric device. The HEV is developed for reducing fuel consumption and emissions. We selected the diesel engine as a main power source of HEV. The tests were carried out under different driving cycles which was CBDBUS (Central Business Driving Bus Schedule) and HWFET (Highway Fuel Economy Test). This research presents a simulation for the fuel economy and the emission of heavy diesel hybrid vehicle according to the SHEV (Serial Hybrid Electric Vehicle), PHEV (Parallel Hybrid Electric Vehicle), Plug-in SHEV and plug-in PHEV.

This paper presents a hybrid system combining lead rubber bearings and hydraulic actuators controlled by a $\mu-synthesis$ method for seismic response control of a cable-stayed bridge. A hybrid system could alleviate some of restrictions and limitations that exist when each system is acting alone because multiple control devices are operating. Therefore, the overall control performance of a hybrid system may be improved compared to each system, however the overall system robustness may be negatively impacted by active device in the hybrid system or active controller may cause instability due to small margins. Therefore, a $\mu-synthesis$ method that guarantees the robust performance is considered to enhance the possibility of real applications of the control system. The performances of the proposed control system are compared with those of passive, active, semiactive control systems and hybrid system controlled by a LQG algorithm. Furthermore, an extensive robust analysis with respect to stiffness and mass matrices perturbation and time delay of actuator is performed. Numerical simulation results show that the performances of the proposed control system are superior to those of passive system and slightly better than those of active and semiactive systems and two hybrid systems show similar control performances. Furthermore, the hybrid system controlled by a f-synthesis method shows the good robustness without loss of control performances. Therefore, the proposed control system could effectively be used to seismically excited cable-stayed bridge which contains many uncertainties.
