History Document Image Background Noise and Removal Methods

  • It is common for archive libraries to provide public access to historical and ancient document image collections. It is common for such document images to require specialized processing in order to remove background noise and become more legible. Document images may be contaminated with noise during transmission, scanning or conversion to digital form. We can categorize noises by identifying their features and can search for similar patterns in a document image to choose appropriate methods for their removal. In this paper, we propose a hybrid binarization approach for improving the quality of old documents using a combination of global and local thresholding. This article also reviews noises that might appear in scanned document images and discusses some noise removal methods.

  • The thin-layer Navier-Stokes equations are solved for the hypersonic flow over blunt cone configurations with applications to laminar as well as turbulent flows. The equations are expressed in the forms of flux-vector splitting and explicit algorithm. The upwind schemes of Steger-Warming and van Leer are investigated in their ability to accurately predict the heating loads along the surface of the body. A comparison with the second order extensions of these schemes is made and a hybrid scheme incorporating a combination of central differencing and flux-vector-splitting is presented. This scheme is also investigated in its ability to accurately predict heat transfer distributions.

  • The paper is proposed artificial neural network(ANN) sensorless control of induction motor drive with fuzzy learning control-fuzzy neural network(FLC-FNN) controller. The hybrid combination of neural network and fuzzy control will produce a powerful representation flexibility and numerical processing capability. Also this paper is proposed. speed control of induction motor using FLC-FNN and estimation of speed using ANN controller. The back Propagation neural network technique is used to provide a real time adaptive estimation of the motor speed. The error between the desired state variable and the actual one is back-propagated to adjust the rotor speed so that the actual state variable will coincide with the desired one. The proposed control algorithm is applied to induction motor drive system controlled FLC-FNN and ANN controller, Also, this paper is proposed the analysis results to verify the effectiveness of the FLC-FNN and ANN controller.

  • Fuel cell systems offer high efficiencies for energy conservation for transportation application. In addition, they can operate on alcohols and alternative fuels, while producing little or no noxious emissions. The goal of the fuel cell in transportation should be research and commercialization of fuel cell vehicles as economic competitors for internal combustion engine vehicle. The objective of the present study is to analyze feasibility of the fuel cell/battery combination as a power source for a bus.

체적 홀로그램을 이용한 광정보처리 기술에 관한 연구 (A Study on Optical Information Processing using Volume Hologram)

  • In this paper, a new hybrid opto-digital multiple information hiding and real-time extracting system was suggested and implemented using a volume holographic optical correlator. The multiple information hiding system in which the multiple information can be hided in an arbitrary cover image was digitally implemented by using the combination of pseudo random sequence and Hadamard matrix. In addition, a real-time optical extraction system in which the hided multiple information in a cover image can be extracted in real-time was implemented by using a volume holographic optical correlator. In the VanderLugt-type holographic optical correlator used in this experiment, the multiful matched spatial filters corresponding each of the hided informations were recorded in a photorefractive crystal by using the moving window-based angular multiplexing scheme.

  • This paper is proposed a high performance speed control of the Synchronous Reluctance Motor through the FNN(Fuzzy Neural-Network) based SV-PWM(Space Vector PWM). SV-PWM is controlled using FNN control. SV-PWM can be maximum used maximum dc link voltage and is excellent control method due to characteristic to reducing harmonic more than others. The hybrid combination of fuzzy control and neural network will produce a powerful representation flexibility and numerical processing capability. Simulation results are presented to show the validity of the proposed algorithm.

  • This paper is proposed an adaptive fuzzy-neural network(A-FNN) controller based on the vector controlled induction motor drive system. The hybrid combination of fuzzy control and neural network will produce a powerful representation flexibility and numerical processing capability. Also, this paper is proposed speed estimation of induction motor using A closed-loop state observer. The rotor position is calculated through the stator flux position and an estimated flux value of rotation reference frame. A closed-loop state observer is implemented to compute the speed feedback signal. The results of analysis prove that the proposed control system has strong robustness to rotor parameter variation, and has good steady-state accuracy and transitory response.

  • A retractor is the major component of a seatbelt system that restraints passengers by locking the movement of webbing. Recently, in order to increase the effectiveness of seatbelt systems, motorized retractors that remove slack and correct passenger posture just before airbag expansion when collision is predicted are widely used. Key component of motorized retractors is the one-way clutch that engages and disengages the winding action of webbing according to the direction of motor revolution. Analytical investigation of action of the one-way clutch mechanism has been carried out to figure out conditions for one-way locking, and to study the effect of various kinematic and dynamic design variables of one-way clutch. Using combination of ADAMS and LifeMOD soft-wares, dynamic simulation of operation of motorized retractors including Hybrid-III dummy model has been carried out to evaluate the performance of the motorized retractors in various crash scenarios.

  • Various acoustic tests were carried out to investigate the acoustic performance of diesel engine exhaust silencers. In order to consider flow effects, the test facility was set up composed of fan, duct and silencer. Using the test facility, insertion loss tests were carried out to improve the acoustic performance in the low-frequency ranges. Through a series of tests, it was found out that the array resonators having multi-perforated holes inside the exhaust silencer, might be very effective in the low frequency range. Consequently, the hybrid-type silencer which is the combination of reflective silencer with array resonators and conventional absorptive silencer, was proposed and its high performance in the low-frequency range was also verified.
