  • By matching a well established fast throughflow code, with standard loss correlations, and an efficient optimization algorithm, a new design system has been developed, which optimizes inlet and exit flow-field parameters for each blade row of a multistage axial flow turbine. The compressible steady state inviscid throughflow code based on streamline curvature method is suitable for fast and accurate flow calculation and performance prediction of a multistage axial flow turbine. A general purpose hybrid constrained optimization package, iSIGHT has been used, which includes the following modules: genetic algorithm, simulated annealing, modified method of feasible directions. The design system has been demonstrated using an example of a 5-stage low pressure steam turbine for 800MW thermal power plant previously designed by HANJUNG. The comparison of computed performance of initial and optimized design shows significant improvement in the turbine efficiency.

Field Weakening Control of a PM Electric Variable Transmission for HEV

  • This paper presents the control of a Permanent Magnet Electric Variable Transmission (PM-EVT) for Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs). Consisting of two electric machines, the EVT realizes the power split function in an electromagnetic way rather than in a mechanical way. A specific PM-EVT has been designed for Toyota Prius II. The control scheme of the entire vehicle is deduced using the Energetic Macroscopic Representation methodology. The energy management strategy yields local control references. A specific attention is paid for the field weakening for wide speed range. Simulation results are provided to illustrate the EVT modeling and control.

  • In today's competitive environment, supply chain management is a major concern for a company. Two of the key issues in supply chain management are transportation and inventory management. To achieve significant savings, companies should integrate these two issues instead of treating them separately. In this paper we develop a framework for modeling stochastic programming in a supply chain that is subject to demand uncertainty. With reasonable assumptions, two stochastic programming models are presented, respectively, including a single-period and a multi-period situations. Our assumptions allow us to capture the stochastic nature of the problem and translate it into a deterministic model. And then, based on the genetic algorithm and stochastic simulation, a solution method is developed to solve the model. Finally, the computational results are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of our model and algorithm.

Multi-objective optimal design of laminate composite shells and stiffened shells

  • This paper presents a multi-objective evolutionary algorithm for combinatorial optimisation and applied for design optimisation of fiber reinforced composite structures. The proposed algorithm closely follows the implementation of Pareto Archive Evolutionary strategy (PAES) proposed in the literature. The modifications suggested include a customized neighbourhood search algorithm in place of mutation operator to improve intensification mechanism and a cross over operator to improve diversification mechanism. Further, an external archive is maintained to collect the historical Pareto optimal solutions. The design constraints are handled in this paper by treating them as additional objectives. Numerical studies have been carried out by solving a hybrid fiber reinforced laminate composite cylindrical shell, stiffened composite cylindrical shell and pressure vessel with varied number of design objectives. The studies presented in this paper clearly indicate that well spread Pareto optimal solutions can be obtained employing the proposed algorithm.

Control Strategy of MMC-HVDC under Unbalanced Grid Voltage Conditions

  • High voltage direct current transmission based on modular multilevel converter (MMC-HVDC) is one of the most promising power transmission technologies. In this study, the mathematical characteristics of MMC-HVDC are analyzed in a synchronous rotational reference frame. A hybrid current vector controller based on proportional integer plus resonant is used to uniformly control the DC and double-base frequency AC currents under unbalanced grid voltage conditions. A corresponding voltage dependent current order limiter is then designed to solve the overcurrent problems that may occur. Moreover, the circulating current sequence components are thoroughly examined and controlled using a developed circulating current suppressor. Simulation results verify the correctness and effectiveness of the proposed control schemes.

  • In this study, a novel strategy to prepare a crystallized sample of terpolymer containing high content of ${\gamma}-form$ was experimentally sought. By the foaming process, it was possible for the first time to produce a commercial high molar-mass terpolymer being in a high content of ${\Box}-form$. The large amount of nuclei produced during the foaming process by FIC is ascribed to be the reason. It accounts for the structural disorder in the crystallite formation because of excess amount of chains length for the formation of a stable crystallite.

  • Many indexing methods were proposed so that process moving object efficiently. Among them, indexing methods like the 3D R-tree treat temporal and spatial domain as the same. Actually, however. both domain had better process separately because of difference in character and unit. Especially in this paper we deal with limited region such as indoor environment since spatial domain is limited but temporal domain is grown. In this paper we present a novel indexing structure, namely STS-tree(Separation of Time and Space tree). based on limited region. STS-tree is a hybrid tree structure which consists of R-tree and one-dimensional TB-tree. The R-tree component indexes static object and spatial information such as topography of the space. The TB-tree component indexes moving object and temporal information.

  • In this paper, a method of station keeping strategy using relative orbital motion and numerical optimization technique is presented for geostationary satellite. Relative position vector with respect to an ideal geostationary orbit is generated using high precision orbit propagation, and compressed in terms of polynomial and trigonometric function. Then, this relative orbit model is combined with optimization scheme to propose a very efficient and flexible method of station keeping planning. Proper selection of objective and constraint functions for optimization can yield a variety of station keeping methods improved over the classical ones. Nonlinear simulation results have been shown to support such concept.

An Adaptive Tracking Controller for Vibration Reduction of Flexible Manipulator

  • An adaptive tracking controller is presented for the vibration reduction of flexible manipulator employed in hazardous area by combining input shaping technique with sliding-mode control. The combined approach appears to be robust in the presence of severe disturbance and unknown parameter which will be estimated by least-square method in real time. In a maneuver strategy, it is found that a hybrid trajectory with a combination of low frequency mode and rigid-body mode results in better performance and is more efficient than the traditional rigid body trajectory alone which many researchers have employed. The feasibility of the adaptive tracking control approach is demonstrated by applying it to the simplified model of robot system. For the applications of the proposed technique to realistic systems, several requirements are discussed such as control stability and large system order resulted from finite element modeling.

  • This paper describes a study for the buoy which should be operated by a stand-alone power system. The field of this study is related to a power system operated by two batteries which depends on the load power. The fluctuation of the voltages makes the life cycle of the battery shorten. The control algorithm has been proposed for reducing the voltage pulsation of the battery by operation strategy according to using purpose such as main or sub power supply system. The power system with battery is separated two parts and this has been proved through a simulation and a sea experiment. In order for the experiment to use a wireless monitoring system has been installed in buoy. This paper shows an excellent test result of wireless monitoring system for buoy.
