  • Generally, the power management system of fuel cell hybrid vehicle (FCHV) requires a unidirectional DC/DC converter for the fuel cell (FC) and a bidirectional DC/DC converter for the battery. To manage the various power flows between these modules with a simple way, a new band-gap reference voltage (BGRV) control strategy is proposed. The proposed method easily controls this variable power flow by setting the reference voltages of each converter to slightly different values, and it can be simply implemented by commercial controllers as well. The operational principle of proposed method is presented and verified experimentally by the 400W prototype.

  • In this paper, we investigate the portfolio optimization problem under the SVCEV model, which is a hybrid model of constant elasticity of variance (CEV) and stochastic volatility, by taking into account of minimum-entropy robustness. The Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman (HJB) equation is derived and the first two orders of optimal strategies are obtained by utilizing an asymptotic approximation approach. We also derive the first two orders of practical optimal strategies by knowing that the underlying Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process is not observable. Finally, we conduct numerical experiments and sensitivity analysis on the leading optimal strategy and the first correction term with respect to various values of the model parameters.

  • Base isolation is a quite practical control strategy for enhancing the response of structural systems induced by strong ground motions. Due to the dynamic effects of base isolation systems, reduction in the interstory drifts of the superstructure is often achieved at the expense of high base displacement level, which may lead to instability of the structure or non-practical designs for the base isolators. To reduce the base displacement, several hybrid structural control strategies have been studied over the past decades. This study investigates a particular strategy that employs Tuned Mass Dampers (TMDs) for improving the performance of base-isolated structures and unlike previous studies, specifically focuses on the effectiveness of this hybrid control strategy in structures that are equipped with nonlinear base isolation systems. To consider the nonlinearities of base isolation systems, a Bouc-Wen model is selected and nonlinear dynamic OpenSees models are used to perform several time-history simulations in time and frequency domains. Through these numerical simulations, the effects of several parameters such as the fundamental period of the structure, dynamic properties of the TMD and isolation systems and properties of the input ground motion on the behaviour of TMD-structure-base isolation systems are examined. The results of this study provide a better insight into the performance of linear shear-story structures with nonlinear base isolators and show that there are many scenarios in which TMDs can still improve the performance of these systems.

  • To introduce the cache in a client is one of the methods to migrate the performance degradation of broadcast systems doe to the inherent restrictions of wireless communication environments such as low bandwidth or frequent disconnections. In this paper, we propose a pull-based broadcast strategy in hybrid-based data broadcast systems using bit vectors in order to effectively broadcast data recently requested by clients. Then, we propose a caching strategy considering the characteristics of data broadcast algorithm and then evaluate the performance of the system. According to the result of evaluation, the system employing the proposed strategies shows the better performance in terms of response time.

  • In this paper, a hybridization of Evolutionary Strategy (ES) and a Two-Phase Neural Network(TPNN) is applied to the optimal environmental and economic operation. As the evolutionary computation, ES is to search for the global optimum based on natural selection and genetics but it shows a defect of reducing the convergence rate in the latter part of search, and often does not search the exact solution. Also, neural network theory as a local search technique can be used to search a more exact solution. But it also has the defect that a solution frequently sticks to the local region. So, new algorithm is presented as hybrid methods by combining merits of two methods. The hybrid algorithm has been tested on Emission Constrained Economic Dispatch (ECED) problem and Weighted Emission Economic Dispatch (WEED) problem for optimal environmental and economic operation. The result indicated that the hybrid approach can outperform the other computational efficiency and accuracy.

  • In this paper an optimal method based on fuzzy logic for controlling parallel hybrid electric vehicles is presented. In parallel hybrid electric vehicles the required torque for deriving and operating the on-board accessories is generated by a combination of internal-combustion engine and an electric motor. The powersharing between the internal combustion engine and the electric motor is the key point for efficient driving. This is a highly nonlinear and time varying plant and its control strategy will be implemented with the use of fuzzy logic controller. The fuzzy logic controller will be designed based on the state of charge of batteries and the desired torque for driving. The output of controller controls the throttle of the combustion engine. The main contribution of this paper is the development of an optimal control based on fuzzy logic, which maximizes the output torque of the vehicle while minimizing fuel consumed by the combustion engine.

  • This paper presents a hybrid pulse width modulation (PWM) method under low switching frequency conditions based on space vector PWM (SVPWM) and selective harmonic eliminated PWM (SHEPWM), which use asynchronous carrier modulation SVPWM at low frequency, and SHEPWM at high frequency, a square wave after rated conditions. A transitive strategy is proposed to realize a smooth transition of individual modes including SVPWM, SHEPWM and square waves. Experimental results confirm this hybrid modulation method and their transition are reasonable and proper.

  • This paper presents an empirical study on selecting a small amount of useful unlabeled data to improve the classification accuracy of semi-supervised learning algorithms. In particular, a hybrid method of unifying the simply recycled selection method and the incrementally-reinforced selection method was considered and evaluated empirically. The experimental results, which were obtained from well-known benchmark data sets using semi-supervised support vector machines, demonstrated that the hybrid method works better than the traditional ones in terms of the classification accuracy.
