  • The reinforced concrete(RC) structures strengthened with fiber reinforced plastic(FRP) has been accepted by the construction engineering community for rehabilitation. FRP composites can present many advantages like a corrosion resistance, strength-weight ratio, relatively short application time, and cost effectiveness. The beams under design load, however, are cracked and result in degrading the strength. It is difficult to recognize cracks and deflections on the surface of the concrete members retrofitted with FRP through the life cycle. For these reasons, if they result in the effects, which were below the expected strength, we must monitor the state of concrete structures all the time in order to take an appropriate measure. Fiber Bragg Grating(FBG) sensor excel as monitoring of investigating the stress state of the retrofitted beams with FRP. The main objective of this study is to measure strain by experiment and analyze the behavior of RC beams retrofitted with FRP using FBG sensor. The kinds of FRP which were used in research are carbon, glass and improved hybrid FRP(IFRP) that has capacity than any other FRP. Other variables are the length of FRP, the number of sheet.

  • The widely used motors in HEV(Hybrid Electric Vehicles) are IPMSM(Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) which has no rotor heat, higher efficiency and advantageous in volume and weight comparing with other motors. For vector control of IPMSM, position information of rotor is required but Resolver is mainly used as the detecting sensor. However, the use of position sensors will reduce the system reliability of hybrid electric vehicles. In this paper, a way to control the motor by sensorless was proposed at the event of sensor failure. We also implemented IPMSM sensorless operation by the expanded EMF(Electro Motive Force) voltage way and harmonic voltage which is applying in the low speed area. And we proposed how to change with sensorless control by detecting the position sensors failure and verified it through experiments.

  • In this paper we suggest a hybrid MAC protocol for wireless sensor networks (WSN) to enhance network performance. The proposed MAC scheme is specifically designed for wireless sensor networks which consist of lots nodes. The contributions of this paper are: First, the proposed scheduling algorithm is independent of network topology. Even though the BS node has lots of one hop node in dense mode network, all the time slots can be assigned fully without increasing frequencies. Second, BS one hop nodes can use more than one time slots if necessary, so total network performance is increased. We compare the network performance of the proposed scheme with previous one, HyMAC [1].

  • A hybrid fiber-optic sensor system which combines fiber Bragg grating sensors and a Michelson interferometer has been constructed and evaluated for condition monitoring of large scale wind turbines. In order to measure multiple stresses applied to wind turbines such as strain, temperature and vibration, the system uses single broadband light source. It addresses both types of sensors, which simplifies the optical setup and enhances the cost-effectiveness of condition monitoring system. An athermal-packaged FBG is used to supply quasi-coherent light, of which coherence length is about 3.28mm, for the Michelson interferometer demodulation. Experimental results demonstrated that the proposed fiber-optic sensor system was capable of measuring strain and temperature with measurement accuracy of 1pm. Also 500~2000Hz vibration signals were successfully analyzed by applying FFT signal processing to interference signals.

  • In two-degree of freedom(TDOF) inertial sensors, two axes are mechanically correlated with each other. Fault source of one axis sensor may affect the other axis sensor, and therefore multiple fault detection and isolation(FDI) technique is required. Conventional FDI techniques using hardware redundancy need four TDOF inertial sensors for FDI. In this study, three TDOF inertial sensor redudancy case is considered, where conventional FDI technique can detect the fault, but cannot isolate the fault sensor. Hybrid FDI technique is proposed to solve this problem. Hybrid FDI technique utilizes the analytic redundancy by utilizing the unscented kalman filter as well as hardware redundancy for FDI. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed FDI technique, numerical simulations are performed using six degree of freedom nonlinear aircrft dynamics.

  • A digital vacuum pressure sensor is designed, fabricated, and characterized using a packaged MEMS analog Pirani gauge. The packaged MEMS analog Pirani gauge requires a current source to heat up a heater in the Pirani gauge. To investigate the feasibility of digitization for the analog Pirani gauge, its implementation is performed with a zero-temperature coefficient current source and microcontroller that are commercially available. The measurement results using the digital vacuum pressure sensor showed that its operating range is 0.05-760 Torr, which is the same as the measurement results of the packaged MEMS analog pressure sensor. The results confirm that it is feasible to integrate the analog Pirani gauge with a commercially available current source and microcontroller. The successful hybrid integration of the analog Pirani gauge and digital circuits is an encouraging result for monolithic integration with a precision current source and ADCs in the state of CMOS dies.

  • In this paper, a hybrid sensor is proposed that has two capabilities: The first is to sense longitudinal of flexural elastic waves selectively which are transmitted along the targe shaft, the second to measure the rotating speed of the shaft. All measurement are made in a noncontact manner since this sensor uses magnetostriction as its measuring principles. Furthermore, the switching between these two sensing capabilities are accomplished by a very simple mechanical operation. To verify the capabilities of the Proposed sensor, an Prototype sensor are fabricated and the experiments are made. The result shows this sensor can embody two sensing capabilities in one sensor configuration.

All measurements are made in a non-contact manner since this sensor uses magnetostriction as its measuring principle. To verify the capabilities of the proposed sensor, a prototype sensor is fabricated and the experiments are made. • An ultraviolet (UV) image sensor is an extremely important optoelectronic device used in scientific and medical applications because it can detect images that cannot be obtained using visible or infrared image sensors. Because photodetectors and transistors are based on different materials, conventional UV imaging devices, which have a hybrid-type structure, require additional complex processes such as a backside etching of a GaN epi-wafer and a wafer-to-wafer bonding for the fabrication of the image sensors. In this study, we developed a monolithic GaN UV passive pixel sensor (PPS) by integrating a GaN-based Schottky-barrier type transistor and a GaN UV photodetector on a wafer. Both individual devices show good electrical and photoresponse characteristics, and the fabricated UV PPS was successfully operated under UV irradiation conditions with a high on/off extinction ratio of as high as $10^3$. This integration technique of a single pixel sensor will be a breakthrough for the development of GaN-based optoelectronic integrated circuits.

  • The dependence of numerous systems on electronic devices is causing rapidly increasing concern over fault tolerance because of safety issues of safety critical system. As an example, a vehicle with electronics-controlled system such as x-by-wire systems, which are replacing rigid mechanical components with dynamically configurable electronic elements, should be fault¬tolerant because a devastating failure could arise without warning. Fault-tolerant systems have been studied in detail, mainly in the field of aeronautics. As an alternative to solve these problems, this paper presents the fuzzy hybrid redundancy system that can remove most erroneous faults with fuzzy fault detection algorithm. In addition, several numerical simulation results are given where the fuzzy hybrid redundancy outperforms with general voting method.
