  • Polyimide-silica hybrid membranes were prepared and the effect of silica content on the structural properties and the gas transport properties was studied. The hybrid membranes were obtained by the sol-gel process starting from 1,2,4,5-benzenetetracarboxylic dianhydride(PMDA), 4,4`-diamino- diphenyl oxide(ODA) and tetraethoxysilane(TEOS) in N,N` dimethylacetatmide (DMAc) solvent. The structural characterizations of the membrane were performed by FT-IR, EDX, TGA and SEM. The gas permeation experiments with ${N_2}, {O_2}, {H_2}, {CO_2}and ${CH_4}$ were carried out at the temperature of $25^{\circ}C$ and in the range of pressure from 3atm to 7atm. the hybrid membranes showed higher thermal stability than PI membranes. The silica patricles were uniformly embedded in the polyimide matrix and the size of silica particles increased with increasing silica content. The permeability coefficients of ${N_2}, {O_2}, {H_2}, {CO_2}and ${CH_4}$ increased with increasing silica content but the diffusion coefficients might appear to be a result of a solubility enhancement. In spite of the permeability enhancement, an increase in the selectivities of ${H_2}/{N_2}, ${H_2}/{O_2} and ${H_2}/{CO_2} was observed.

  • This paper proposes a hybrid analytic method for the prediction of vibrational and acoustic responses of reverberant system in the medium-to-high frequency ranges by using the PFA(Power Flow Analysis) algorithm and SEA(Statistical Energy Analysis) coupling concepts. The main part of this method is the application of the coupling loss factor(CLF) of SEA to the boundary condition of PFA in reverberant system. The hybrid method developed shows much more promising results than the conventional SEA and equivalent results to the classical PFA for various damping loss factors in a wide range of frequencies. Additionally, this paper presents applied results of hybrid power flow finite element method(hybrid PFFEM) by formulating the new joint element matrix with CLF to analyze the vibrational responses of built-up structures. Finally, the analytic results of coupled plate structures and an automobile-shaped structure using hybrid PFFEM were predicted successively.

  • Mode II fracture toughness ($K_{IIc}$) of fiber reinforced concrete (FRC) has been widely investigated under various patterns of test specimen geometries. Most of these studies were focused on single type fiber reinforced concrete. There is a lack in such studies for hybrid fiber reinforced concrete. In the current study, an experimental investigation of evaluating mode II fracture toughness ($K_{IIc}$) of hybrid fiber embedded in high strength concrete matrix has been reported. Three different types of fibers; namely steel (S), glass (G), and polypropylene (PP) fibers were mixed together in four hybridization patterns (S/G), (S/PP), (G/PP), (S/G/PP) with constant cumulative volume fraction ($V_f$) of 1.5 %. The concrete matrix properties were kept the same for all hybrid FRC patterns. In an attempt to estimate a fairly accepted value of fracture toughness $K_{IIc}$, four testing geometries and loading types are employed in this investigation. Three different ratios of notch depth to specimen width (a/w) 0.3, 0.4, and 0.5 were implemented in this study. Mode II fracture toughness of concrete $K_{IIc}$ was found to decrease with the increment of a/w ratio for all concretes and test geometries. Mode II fracture toughness $K_{IIc}$ was sensitive to the hybridization patterns of fiber. The (S/PP) hybridization pattern showed higher values than all other patterns, while the (S/G/PP) showed insignificant enhancement on mode II fracture toughness ($K_{IIc}$). The four point shear test set up reflected the lowest values of mode II fracture toughness $K_{IIc}$ of concrete. The non damage defect concept proved that, double edge notch prism test setup is the most reliable test to measure pure mode II of concrete.

  • $H_2/O_2$ 비에 따른 Hybrid HVOF 용사된 $Cr_3C_2$-7wt%(NiCr) 용사층의 특성 및 산화거동 This study was performed to investigate the influence of fuel/oxygen ratio (F/O=3.2, 3.0, 2.8) on the characteristics and the oxidation behavior of the hybrid-HVOF sprayed $Cr_3C_2$-7wt%NiCr coatings. Decomposition and the oxidation of the $Cr_3C_2$was occured during spraying. The degree of transformation from $Cr_3C_2$to $Cr_7C_3$ was increased with decreasing the F/O ratio. The microstructural differences of the as sprayed coating with F/O ratio can not be distinguished, However, large pores were diminished and then the coatings became dense by heat treatment. Microhardness of the as-sprayed specimen which sprayed with F/O=3.0 condition was hightest ($Hv_{300}$=1140) and the hardness was increased to 1500 after heat treatment at $600^{\circ}C$ for 50hrs in air. It was supposed that hardness was increased due to the formation of $Cr_2O_3$ within $Cr_3C_2$/$Cr_7C_3$matrix and the densification of coating layer during heat treatment. Apparent activation energy for oxidation was varied from 21.2 kcal$mol^{-1}K^{-1}$ to 23.8 kcal$mol^{-1}K^{-1}$ with respect to the F/O ratio. The surface morphology was changed to porous and oxide chusters were grown after oxidation $1000^{\circ}C$ for 50 hours by the aggressive evolution of gas phase ($CrO_3$ and$CO_2$). The oxide cluster was composed of Ni and Cr.

  • This paper considers the problem of sampled-data control for continuous linear parameter varying (LPV) systems. It is assumed that the sampling periods are arbitrarily varying but bounded. Based on the input delay approach, the sampled-data control LPV system is transformed into a continuous time-delay LPV system. Some less conservative stabilization results represented by LMI (Linear Matrix Inequality) are obtained by using the Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional method and the reciprocally combination approach. The proposed method for the designed gain matrix should guarantee asymptotic stability and a specified level of performance on the closed-loop hybrid system. Numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness and the improvement of the proposed method.

  • Objective: The genetic evaluation of Santa Inês sheep was performed for resistance to gastrointestinal nematode infection (RGNI) and body size using different relationship matrices to assess the efficiency of including genomic information in the analyses. Methods: There were 1,637 animals in the pedigree and 500, 980, and 980 records of RGNI, thoracic depth (TD), and rump height (RH), respectively. The genomic data consisted of 42,748 SNPs and 388 samples genotyped with the OvineSNP50 BeadChip. The (co)variance components were estimated in single- and multi-trait analyses using the numerator relationship matrix (A) and the hybrid matrix H, which blends A with the genomic relationship matrix (G). The BLUP and single-step genomic BLUP methods were used. The accuracies of estimated breeding values and Spearman rank correlation were also used to assess the feasibility of incorporating genomic information in the analyses. Results: The heritability estimates ranged from 0.11±0.07, for TD (in single-trait analysis using the A matrix), to 0.38±0.08, for RH (using the H matrix in multi-trait analysis). The estimates of genetic correlation ranged from -0.65±0.31 to 0.59±0.19, using A, and from -0.42±0.30 to 0.57±0.16 using H. The gains in accuracy of estimated breeding values ranged from 2.22% to 75.00% with the inclusion of genomic information in the analyses. Conclusion: The inclusion of genomic information will benefit the direct selection for the traits in this study, especially RGNI and TD. More information is necessary to improve the understanding on the genetic relationship between resistance to nematode infection and body size in Santa Inês sheep. The genetic evaluation for the evaluated traits was more efficient when genomic information was included in the analyses.

  • The new process for hybrid silicon thin film transistor (TFT) using DPSS laser has been developed for realizing both low-temperature poly-Si (LTPS) TFT and a-Si:H TFT on the same substrate as a backplane of active matrix liquid crystal display. LTPS TFTs are integrated on the peripheral area of the panel for gate driver integrated circuit and a-Si:H TFTs are used as a switching device for pixel in the active area. The technology has been developed based on the current a-Si:H TFT fabrication process without introducing ion-doping and activation process and the field effect mobility of $4{\sim}5\;cm^2/V{\cdot}s$ and $0.5\;cm^2/V{\cdot}s$ for each TFT was obtained. The low power consumption, high reliability, and low photosensitivity are realized compared with amorphous silicon gate driver circuit and are demonstrated on the 14.1 inch WXGA+ ($1440{\times}900$) LCD Panel.

  • To enhance the performance of photovoltaic a-Si:H solar cells with a hybrid-type light absorbing structure of single crystal silicon nanoparticles (Si NPs) in a-Si:H matrix, single crystal Si NPs were produced by laser pyrolysis. The Si NPs were synthesized by $SiH_4$ gas decomposition using a $CO_2$ laser. The properties of Si NPs were controlled by process parameters such as $CO_2$ laser power, reactive gas pressure, and $H_2/SiH_4$ gas flows. The crystalline properties and sizes of Si NPs were analyzed by High Resolution Transmission Electron Microscopy (HRTEM). The sizes of Si NPs were controllable in the range of 5-15 nm in diameter and the effects of process parameters of laser pyrolysis were systematically investigated.

  • Hard coatings are known to improve the performance of cutting tools in aggressive machining applications, such as high speed machining. New superhard Ti-Al-Si-W films, characterized by a nanocomposite nano-sized (Ti,Al,Si)N crystallites embedded in amorphous $Si_3 N_4$ matrix, could be successfully synthesized on WC-Co substrates by a hybrid coating system of arc ion plating(AIP) and sputtering method. The hardness of Ti-Al-Si-N film increased with incorporation of Si, and had the maximum value ~50 GPa at the Si content of 9 at.%, respectively. And the X-ray diffraction patterns of Ti-Al-Si-N films with various Si content is investigated. In this study, Ti-Al-Si-N coatings were applied to end-mill tools made of WC-Co material by a hybrid coating system. Cutting tests fir the high-hardened material (STD11,$H_R$)C62 and their performances in high speed cutting conditions were studied. Also, the tool wear and tool lift of Ti-Al-Si-N with various si(6, 9, 19) contents were measured.
