  • The fuel cell system has inherent limitation such as slow response time and low fuel economy especially at the low power region, and thus, the battery system has come to be used to compensate for the fuel cell system. This type of hybrid configuration has many advantages, however, the energy management strategy is essentially required. The work in this paper presents survey on recent power management strategies for fuel cell hybrid electric vehicles. For three power management strategies: basic control method. object function-based control method, and fuzzy logic-based control method. each strategy is reviewed and discussed with other strategy.

  • New non-hybrid approaches to improve energy efficiency of construction machineries are reviewed in this paper. Hydraulic systems are classified into four classes according to Backe's classification and commercially promising new technologies are carefully chosen in each class. IMV, 3-Line CPR, Closed Circuit Displacement Control of Differential Cylinder, and Throttle-less Secondary Control are chosen as representative non-hybrid new technologies. Key principle of each technology is explained and representative references which run through each technology are selected. Advantages and weaknesses of each technology are discussed and compared from the view point of construction machinery manufacturers.

  • The verified thermal efficiency, thermal capacity confirmed the effects of the cooling system. Therefore, it is useful for preventing the PV cell temperature rising when solar radiation accumulates in summer. When adopting a hybrid panel for the BIPV system, the affected areas include the vertical outside walls facing the south, southeast, and southwest on the curtain walls excluding windows. The standards on replace aluminum panel which were the popular exterior material were investigated, Designing practice made sure that it could be manufactured in various sizes, and confirmed the most proper method to install a hybrid panel in the BIPV system.

Remarkable Stability of Graphene/Ni-Al Layered Double Hydroxide Hybrid Composites for Electrochemical Capacitor Electrodes

  • Graphene/Ni-Al layered double hydroxide (LDH) hybrid materials were synthesized by a hydrothermal reaction. Hexagonal Ni-Al LDH particles nucleated and grew on graphene sheets, thus preventing restacking of the graphene sheets and aggregation of the Ni-Al LDH nanoparticles upon drying. Electrode made from the graphene/Ni-Al LDH hybrid materials showed a substantial improvement in electrochemical capacitance relative to those made with pure Ni-Al LDH nanoparticles. In addition, the graphene/Ni-Al LDH hybrid composite materials showed remarkable stability after 4000 cycles with over 100% capacitance retention. These materials are thus very promising for use in electrochemical capacitor electrodes.

Preparation and Characteristics of Li4Ti5O12 Anode Material for Hybrid Supercapacitor

  • Spinel-$Li_4Ti_5O_{12}$ was successfully synthesized by a solid-phase method at 800, 850, and $900^{\circ}C$ according to the $Li_4Ti_5O_{12}$ cubic spinel phase structure. To achieve higher EDLC energy density with the $Li_4Ti_5O_{12}$, the negative electrode of the hybrid supercapacitor was studied in this work. The electrochemical performances of the hybrid supercapacitor and EDLC were characterized by constant current discharge curves, c-rate, and cycle performance testing. The capacitance (1st cycle) of the hybrid supercapacitor and EDLC was 209 and 109 F, respectively, which is higher than EDLC. The capacitance of the hybrid supercapacitor decreases from 209 F to 101 F after 20 cycles when discharged at several specific current densities ranging from 1 to 10 A. In contrast, capacitance of the EDLC hardly decreases after 20 cycles. Results show that hybrid supercapacitor benefits from the high rate capability of supercapacitor and high capacity of the battery. Findings also prove that the hybrid supercapacitor is an energy storage device where the supercapacitor and the Li ion secondary battery coexist in one cell system.

하이브리드 슈퍼커패시터의 음극 및 양극 설계에 따른 전기화학적 거동 (Electrochemical Behavior Depending on Designed-Anode and Cathodes of Hybrid Supercapacitors)

  • The performance of Li-ion hybrid supercapacitors (asymmetric-type) depends on many factors such as the capacity ratio, material properties, cell designs and operating conditions. Among these, in consideration of balanced electrochemical reactions, the capacity ratio of the negative (anode) to positive (cathode) electrode is one of the most important factors to design the Li-ion hybrid supercapacitors for high energy storing performance. We assemble Li-ion hybrid supercapacitors using activated carbon (AC) as anode material, lithium manganese oxide as cathode material, and organic electrolyte (1 mol L-1 LiPF6 in acetonitrile). At this point, the thickness of the anode electrode is controlled at 160, 200, and 240 ㎛. Also, thickness of cathode electrode is fixed at 60 ㎛. Then, the effect of negative and positive electrode ratio on the electrochemical performance of AC/LiMn2O4 Li-ion hybrid supercapacitors is investigated, especially in the terms of capacity and cyclability at high current density. In this study, we demonstrate the relationship of capacity ratio between anode and cathode electrode, and the excellent electrochemical performance of AC/LiMn2O4 Li-ion hybrid supercapacitors. The remarkable capability of these materials proves that manipulation of the capacity ratio is a promising technology for high-performance Li-ion hybrid supercapacitors.

병원건물의 스마트그리드시스템의 에너지절약평가 및 경제성분석 (Economic Analysis and Energy Saving Evaluation for Smart Grid System of Hospital Building)

  • 본 논문은 대형 병원 건물에 신재생에너지 및 열병합시스템을 설치하였을 경우 에너지 성능해석 및 경제성평가를 도출한 것이다. 태양광, 태양열, 지열, 마이크로터빈 및 마이크로터빈과 지열을 복합한 하이브리드 에너지시스템에 대하여 각각 분석하였다. 분석결과 지열 및 마이크로터빈 시스템이 비교적 양호한 결과를 얻었으며 특히 하이브리드시스템으로 운전하는 경우 병동부의 냉난방공급이 가능하고 경제성평가에서도 매우 좋은 결과를 나타냈다. 이는 빌딩 스마트 그리드시스템의 에너지해석 및 경제성평가 방법을 통한 시스템 구축에 필수적인 자료 활용할 수 있다.

Regenerative Energy Characteristics of Battery and Supercapacitor in a PEMFC Hybrid System

  • This study focuses on the application of the PEM Fuel Cell(PEMFC) hybrid system, which includes a regenerative braking system with supercapacitor(SC) and battery. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the characteristics of regenerative energy and to propose solutions to increase regenerative energy via vehicle simulation. To achieve this target, we set the rated motor speed to 3,000/2,500/2,000 rpm. Because the flywheel is directly connected to the motor, the generator activates regenerative braking by using the rotational momentum of the flywheel when the flywheel reaches the set speed after the motor stops. We could then measure the characteristics of regenerative braking of voltage, current, power, energy change, etc. Meanwhile, we calculate the storage efficiency of the SC or the battery. Our results show that the SC stores 18% of the regenerative energy, while battery stores 15% of the energy. Since the regenerative energy decreases with the decrease of the motor rotating speed that 5,027 J and 2,915 J are restored at 3,000 and 2,500 rpm, respectively. The experimental results also prove that regenerative braking energy is able to be obtained if and only if the speed of flywheel is over 2,500 PRM, and the efficiency of the system can be further improved.
