  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the housewives' characteristics of household work management. to classify the household work manager styles and to investigate the relationship between the household work manager styles and the family life satisfaction. The data used for statistical analysis is 352 housewives. The data were analyzed by using SPSSWIN Program, $x^2$-test, one-way ANOVA With Duncan's Multiple Range test and t-test were utilized to test null hypotheses. The major findings of this study were as follows : Human centered household work management was more popular than task centered. Family life satisfaction was significantly different depending on the household work manager style. The idel style was concluded as the most desirable manager style.

  • Elevated level of serum cholesterol in humans is a risk factor correlated with the development of coronary heart disease. We have screened lactic acid bacteria from pig and human feces for the development of probiotics which have an anti-cholesterol effect. We have used special media to isolate only lactic acid bacteria and they were subjected to the experiments such as oxgal test, carbohydrate fermentation test. Results from the acid tolerance test and growth test in the presence of oxgal demonstrated that some strains would likely survive in thuman stomach, where acidity is high, and in small intestine, where bile fluid is present. In conclusion, we were able to screen lactic acid bacteria which were tolerant against bile acid and supposed to be prominent to lower the cholesterol level in human serum.

  • LBD-007, a newly developed recombinant human interferon ${\alpha}$A, was tested for primary eye and skin irritation in male New Zealand White rabbits. In the primary eye irritation test, 0.1ml of a solution of LBD-007 was instilled into the eye. In rinsing group, the eye was washed with water 30 seconds after instillation. No reaction was observed at the cornea, iris and conjunctivae by LBD-007. In the primary skin irritation test, LBD-007 was applied to the back of rabbits for 24 hours. Primary irritation index was "0" in test and control sites of all animals. Thus LBD-007 was evaluated as a non-irritant on the basis of the criteria of Draize et al.,(1994).

  • This research analyzed the manual performance of firefighting protective gloves on global markets in order to suggest an evaluation method for firefighting protective gloves wearing comfort. We collected 13 types of firefighting gloves from domestic and international markets (7 types from Korea, 3 types form Europe, 2 types from the U.S and 1 type from Japan). We set the Don-Doff test as a basal requirement for moving toward to further manual performance tests that consist of: ASTM dexterity test, Minnesota dexterity test, Bennett hand tool test and ASTM torque test. All gloves were evaluated in dry and wet conditions, we included eight current male firefighters ($43.4{\pm}7.0yr$ in age, $173.1{\pm}4.4cm$ in height, $79.9{\pm}9.2kg$ in body mass) for the tests. Four gloves (1 Korea, 1 U.S, 1 Germany, and 1 Japan) out of thirteen firefighting gloves passed the Don-Doff test and had great subject preferences. There was no significant difference between dry and wet conditions on the ASTM dexterity test, Minnesota dexterity test, Bennett hand tool test and ASTM torque test. However, Japanese gloves had the greatest score and showed 3-4 times faster completion time on the ASTM dexterity test (p<.05), 1.2-1.5 times faster on the Minnesota dexterity test (p<.05), as fast as the bare hand on Bennett hand tool test (p<.05), and greater performance on the ASTM torque test compared to bare hand. In conclusion, Don-Doff test in wet conditions should be the first step for a mobility evaluation of domestic firefighting protective gloves; subsequently, a comprehensive test assorting ASTM, Minnesota, and Bennett test should be developed as a second step. The current ASTM torque test can be adopted as a third step. This three-step-method for evaluating firefighting protective glove mobility can be expected to expand into surveys of other safety gloves in Korea.

  • There is the possibility that human error during testing and maintenance brings about the failure of the system, the reliability of which depends on mechanical failure and human error. This paper deals with the calculation of the reliability of the redundant system with the dependent hunman error through Karnaugh Map. Two cases are considered. One is the reli- ability of the system neglecting the test interval of each component and the other is that considering the test interval of each component.

  • In Korea, the human skin tests to evaluate the anti-wrinkles and whitening effect have been accomplished in accordance with the KFDA guideline. Regarding the data of the visual assessment and machinery evaluation of the results for the human skin test, unpaired t-test have been used in order to compare between the test and the control groups and paired t-test for the comparison of effects for before and after. Descriptive statistics such as frequency analyses was used for the questionnaire evaluation data. In many cases of the European and American clinical test centers, the methodology and the statistical analysis were similar to ours. But, the documentation obtained by repeated application from identical individual has high relation. For this reason, it is desirable to apply RM ANCOVA and RM ANOVA to a visual assessment and machinery evaluation. We suggested that RM ANCOVA and RM ANOVA is the new approach to statistical analysis of human test data of functional cosmetics.

  • A simplified model of seat-human body is presented to analyze vibrations of human body on a seat of vehicle. The theoretical model having seven degrees-of-freedom is composed of the inter-connected masses, springs and dampers. Until now, evaluation of ride comfort has been usually performed only through vehicle tests. This study aims to complement shortcomings of conventional vehicle tests in evaluation of ride comfort by using the theoretical model. The acceleration values of the human body are obtained from frequency response functions of the theoretical model. Thereafter, Ride and SEAT indexes are acquired by considering response characteristics of the human body for the 12 axes that are presented in BS 6841. A vehicle test is carried out to measure the acceleration values for the three parts of the human body such as upper body, hip and foot. Ride and SEAT indexes of the vehicle test are also obtained by considering the response characteristics of the human body, of which results are compared with the values from the theoretical model. It is found that the theoretical results are in good agreement with the experimental results.

  • This study was conducted in order to investigate the effect of diet therapy on over weight and obese humans in Korea Subseng Research Institute from January 1, 1994 to August 31, 1997. The constitutions of subjects were classified mild negative, strong negative, mild positive and strong positive respectively by ecology and O-ring test. These results were obtained from the subjects who practiced at least 75% diet therapy recommended for over weight and obese human for 14~400days. The constitutions of over weight and obese human by Relative Body Weight (RBW$\geq$110%) were 89 mild negative humans, 62 strong negative humans, 56 mild positive humans and 30 strong positive humans. The constitutions of over weight and obese human by Body Mass Index(BMI$\geq$25) were 77 mild negative humans, 50 strong negative humans 46 mild positive humans and 23 strong positive humans. The negative subjects were higher than the positive subjects on over weight and obese humans. The diet therapy related to constitiution on over weight and obese humans showed RBW reduction of 6.73$\pm$0.53 on mild negative human, 7.78$\pm$1.69 on strong negative human, 6.94$\pm$0.76 on mild positive human, and 7.80$\pm$1.15 on strong positive human at p<0.001 by student paired t-test. The diet therapy related to constitution on over weight and obese humans showed BMI reduction of 1.47$\pm$0.12 on mild negative humans, 1.24$\pm$0.11 on strong negative humans, 1.59$\pm$0.17 on mild positive humans, and 1.66$\pm$0.30 on strong positive humans at p<0.001 by student paired t-test.
