  • A large number of indices are produced from human sensibility ergonomic data, which are accumulated by the project "Study on the Development of Web-Based Database System of Human Sensibility and its Support". Since the research in this field will be increased rapidly, it is necessary to automate the index processing of human sensibility ergonomic data. From the similarity between indexation and summarization, we propose the automation of this process. In this paper, we study on extraction of keywords, information types and expression features that are considered as basic elements of following techniques for automatic summarization: classification of documents, extraction of information types and linguistic features. • Classification of human thought is an emerging research field that may allow us to understand human brain functions and further develop advanced brain-computer interface (BCI) systems. In the present study, we introduce a new approach to classify various mental states from noninvasive electrophysiological recordings of human brain activity. We utilized the full spatial and spectral information contained in the electroencephalography (EEG) signals recorded while a subject is performing a specific mental task. For this, the EEG data were converted into a 2D spatiospectral pattern map, of which each element was filled with 1, 0, and -1 reflecting the degrees of event-related synchronization (ERS) and event-related desynchronization (ERD). We evaluated the similarity between a current (input) 2D pattern map and the template pattern maps (database), by taking the inner-product of pattern matrices. Then, the current 2D pattern map was assigned to a class that demonstrated the highest similarity value. For the verification of our approach, eight participants took part in the present study; their EEG data were recorded while they performed four different cognitive imagery tasks. Consistent ERS/ERD patterns were observed more frequently between trials in the same class than those in different classes, indicating that these spatiospectral pattern maps could be used to classify different mental states. The classification accuracy was evaluated for each participant from both the proposed approach and a conventional mental state classification method based on the inter-hemispheric spectral power asymmetry, using the leave-one-out cross-validation (LOOCV). An average accuracy of 68.13% (${\pm}9.64%$) was attained for the proposed method; whereas an average accuracy of 57% (${\pm}5.68%$) was attained for the conventional method (significance was assessed by the one-tail paired $t$-test, $p$ < 0.01), showing that the proposed simple classification approach might be one of the promising methods in discriminating various mental states.

  • In order to predict and prevent the disease of the abdominal aorta, which is the largest artery in the human body and the most common aneurysm, the normal arterial blood flow operation should be considered. To this end, we are trying to solve problems that may arise in the future by executing FSI based on the data obtained from 4D flow MRI. However, to match the similarity between the 4D flow MRI flow and the FSI flow, correlation was used in previous papers, but the correlation did not show the degree of agreement. Therefore, in this paper, we analyzed the correlation between the 4D flow MRI flow velocity of the human abdominal aorta and the two-way FSI flow velocity in which the three physical properties used for the aortic FSI were added to the CT abdominal aorta 3D model and the interclass correlation coefficient. As a result, the physical property M2 showed the highest similarity in correlation and intraclass correlation coefficient, and this property is intended to be helpful in the future study of the abdominal aortic two-way FSI flow rate.

  • Skin region detection in images is an important process in many computer vision applications targeting humans such as hand gesture recognition and face identification. It usually starts at a pixel-level, and involves a pre-process of color spae transformation followed by a classification process. A color space transformation is assumed to increase separability between skin classes and other classes, to increase similarity among different skin tones, and to bring a robust performance under varying imaging conditions, without any complicated analysis. In this paper, we examine if the color space transformation actually brings those benefits to the problem of skin region detection on a set of human hand images with different postures, backgrounds, people, and illuminations. Our experimental results indicate that color space transfomation affects the skin detection performance. Although the performance depends on camera and surround conditions, normalized [R, G, B] color space may be a good choice in general.

  • This paper describes a whole-body (human body's) motion generation scheme for an android robot that uses motion capture device and a nonlinear constrained optimization method. Because the captured motion data are based on global coordinates and the actors have different heights and different upper-lower body ratios, the captured motion data cannot be used directly for a humanoid robot. In this paper, we suggest a method for obtaining robot joint angles, which allow the resultant robot motion to be as close as possible to the captured human motion data, by applying a nonlinear constrained optimization method. In addition, the results are animated to demonstrate the similarity of the motions.

  • Human skin equivalents, also designated as cultured skin substitute (Boyce and Warden, 2002) or organotypic co-cultures (Maas-Szabowski et al., 1999, 2000, 2003), are three-dimensional systems that are engineered by seeding fibroblasts into a three-dimensional dermal matrix. Such a dermal equivalent is then subsequently seeded with human keratinocytes. After cell attachment, the culture is kept first under submerged condition to allow keratinocyte proliferation. Thereafter, the culture is lifted the air-liquid interface (A/L) to expose the epidermal compartment to the air, and to further induce keratinocyte differentiation. During the air-exposure, nutrients from the medium will diffuse through the underlying dermal substrate towards the epidermal compartment and support keratinocyte proliferation and differentiation. Under these conditions, a HSE is formed that shows high similarity with the native tissue from which it was derived (Figure 1) (Bell et at., 1981; Boyce et al., 1988; Ponec et al., 1997;El Ghalbzouri et al.., 2002).

  • Human brain EST data provide important clues for our understanding of the molecular biology associated with the function of the normal brain and the molecular pathophysiology with brain disorders. To systematically and efficiently study the function and disorders of the human brain, 45,773 human brain ESTs were collected from 27 human brain cDNA libraries, which were constructed from normal brains and brain disorders such as brain tumors, Parkinson's disease (PO) and epilepsy. An analysis of 45,773 human brain ESTs using our EST analysis pipeline resulted in 38,396 high-quality ESTs and 35,906 ESTs, which were coalesced into 8,246 unique gene clusters, showing a significant similarity to known genes in the human RefSeq, human mRNAs and UniGene database. In addition, among 8,246 gene clusters, 4,287 genes ($52\%$) were found to contain full-length cONA clones. To facilitate the extraction of useful information in collected these human brain ESTs, we developed a user-friendly interface system, the Korea Brain Unigene Database (KBUD). The KBUD web interface allows access to our human brain data through three major search modes, the BioCarta pathway, keywords and BLAST searches. Each result when viewed in KBUD offers comprehensive information concerning the analyzed human brain ESTs provided by our data as well as data linked to various other publiC databases. The user-friendly developed KBUD, the first world-wide web interface for human brain EST data with ESTs of human brain disorders as well as normal brains, will be a helpful system for developing a better understanding of the underlying mechanisms of the normal brain well as brain disorders. The KBUD system is freely accessible at http://kugi.kribb.re.kr/KU/cgi -bin/brain. pI.

  • Semantic interpretation of image is incomplete without some mechanism for understanding semantic content that is not directly visible. For this reason, human assisted content-annotation through natural language is an attachment of textual description to image. However, keyword-based retrieval is in the level of syntactic pattern matching. In other words, dissimilarity computation among terms is usually done by using string matching not concept matching. In this paper, we propose a method for computerized semantic similarity calculation In WordNet space. We consider the edge, depth, link type and density as well as existence of common ancestors. Also, we have introduced method that applied similarity measurement on semantic image retrieval. To combine wi#h the low level features, we use the spatial color distribution model. When tested on a image set of Microsoft's 'Design Gallery Line', proposed method outperforms other approach.

  • This paper deals with a similarity decision method between the shape of hand-postures and their structures to improve performance of the vision-based hand-posture recognition system. Hand-posture recognition by vision sensors has difficulties since the human hand is an object with high degrees of freedom, and hence grabbed images present complex self-occlusion effects and, even for one hand-posture, various appearances according to viewing directions. Therefore many approaches limit the relative angle between cameras and hands or use multiple cameras. The former approach, however, restricts user's operation area. The latter requires additional considerations on the way of merging the results from each camera image to get the final recognition result. To recognize hand-postures, we use both of appearance and structural features and decide the similarity between the two types of features by learning.
