The cache structure, which is designed for assuring fast accesses to frequently accessed data, resides on the various levels of computer system hierarchies. Many studies on this cache structure have been conducted and thus many page-replacement algorithms have been proposed. Most of page-replacement algorithms are designed on the basis of heuristic methods by using their own criteria such as how recently pages are accessed and how often they are accessed. This data-retrieval process in computer systems is analogous to human memory retrieval process since the retrieval process of human memory depends on frequency and recency of the retrieval events as well. A recent study regarding human memory cognition revealed that the possibility of the retrieval success and the retrieval latency have a strong correlation with the frequency and recency of the previous retrieval events. In this paper, we propose a novel page-replacement algorithm by utilizing the knowledge from the recent research regarding human memory cognition. Through a set of experiments, we demonstrated that our new method presents better hit-ratio than the LRFU algorithm which has been known as the best performing page-replacement algorithm for DBMS caches.

In this study, the usability evaluation of a menu-structure was performed using spreading activation model with respect to human's memory retrieval. Spreading Activation Model is effectively used to understand the process of information retrieval, so it can be used as a theoretical background for modeling of the process of human's information retrieval. For spreading activation test (SAT), subjects were presented with 67 pairs of menu titles, which consist of a menu title in the high level menu item and a menu title for the next lower level menu item, from Korea University's web site. For performance tests, three scenarios were developed with longer reaction times and ambiguous associations found in the SAT to reflect the existing problems of the website. As a result, the SAT was found to bean effective tool to enhance the website usability because the SAT could bea substitute for the performance test with a high correlation $({\rho}=0.735,\;{\alpha}=0.05)$. After remaining menu titles with slow reaction times and ambiguous associations found in SAT, the website usability was significantly improved with faster reaction times and less ambiguous associations proven with smaller number of web-page visits. Therefore, the SAT could be used as a methodology to design and evaluate the user-centered menu structure related to human's association structure.

Recent experiments investigating the analgesic or anti-stress effects of electro-acupuncture provide extensive evidence that opioid or stress hormone system is involved in those effects, respectively. It has been also suggested that opioid or stress hormones modulate long-term memory consolidation or retrieval in animals and human subjects. This article reviews the possibilitythat electroacupuncture can modulate memory consolidation or retrieval. The release of serum cortisol is enhanced or reduced by high-frequency or low-frequency electroacupuncture, respectively. Also the release of beta endorphin and enkephalin is enhanced by low-frequency electroacupuncture and the release of dynorphin is enhanced by high-frequency electroacupunture. The memory consolidation is enhanced by post-training injection of Glucocorticoids, Naloxone or Dynorphin. So this review suggests strongly that memory consolidation can be modulated by electroacupuncture.
Purpose: Episodic memory is described as an 'autobiographical' memory responsible for storing a record of the events in our lives. We performed functional brain activation study using ${H_2}^{15}O$ PET to reveal the neural basis of the encoding and the retrieval of episodic memory in human normal volunteers. Materials and Methods: Four repeated ${H_2}^{15}O$ PET scans with two reference and two activation tasks were performed on 6 normal volunteers to activate brain areas engaged in encoding and retrieval with verbal materials. Images from the same subject were spatially registered and normalized using linear and nonlinear transformation. Using the means and variances for every condition which were adjusted with analysis of covariance, t-statistic analysis were performed voxel-wise. Results: Encoding of episodic memory activated the opercular and triangular parts of left inferior frontal gyrus, right prefrontal cortex, medial frontal area, cingulate gyrus, posterior middle and inferior temporal gyri, and cerebellum, and both primary visual and visual association areas. Retrieval of episodic memory activated the triangular part of left inferior frontal gyrus and inferior temporal gyrus, right prefrontal cortex and medial temporal area, and both cerebellum and primary visual and visual association areas. The activations in the opercular part of left inferior frontal gyrus and the right prefrontal cortex meant the essential role of these areas in the encoding and retrieval of episodic memory. Conclusion: We could localize the neural basis of the encoding and retrieval of episodic memory using ${H_2}^{15}O$ PET, which was partly consistent with the hypothesis of hemispheric encoding/retrieval asymmetry.

Many studies adopting brain functions to the engineering systems have been made for recent years as the brain Science has developed. If we investigate the parts which take part in memorizing and emotional process, we can know that Hippocampus of memorizing center and Amygdala of Emotional center closely cooperate each other. Actually Knowledge effects on Emotion and Emotion effects on Knowledge. During the human decision making, emotional factor has much important effects on Decision making process. For implementing more delicate intelligent system, the knowledge base coupled to emotional factor should be designed. Accordingly in this paper starting from the idea of cooperating system between Hippocampus and Amygdala,, we design Knowledge Emotion Binding System and propose Emotional changing mechanism by Memory retrieval and knowledge reasoning process.

CMAC (Cerebeller Model Articulation Controller) is kind of Neural Networks that imitate the human cerebellum. For storage and retrieval of learned data, the input of CMAC is used as a key to determine the memory location. he learned information is distributively stored in physical memory. The learning of CMAC is very fast and converged well, therefore, it effects the application of Pattern Recognition. Through the our experiment of Pattern Recognition, we will prove that CMAC is very suitable for On-line real time processing and incremental learning of Neural Networks.
The purpose of this study was to investigate developmental changes of metamemory. The subjects were 120 5, 7, and 9 year-old children. All children performed metamemory tests which were composed of person variable, task variables, and strategy variable. There were significant age differences in metamemory awareness. As for person variable, prediction accuracy was increased with age. As for task variables, older children recognized aims of tasks, whereas younger children perceived salient properties of tasks. Also, as for strategy variable, number and complexity of strategy for memory retrieval were increased with age.
An understanding of the influence of emotional context on memory retrieval is crucial to our comprehensive understanding of human cognition. While previous research focused primarily on visual stimuli to address this relationship, this study ventures into the realm of speech-based emotional contexts. Building on previous findings, we examine the effects of arousal and the valence of verbal contexts on memory, with particular focus on mitigating the serial position effect. In Study 1, we investigated how the arousal level of verbal context in the middle of a word list affects memory retention. Our results demonstrated detriment to the memory of later parts of the word list when exposed to low-arousal contexts. In Study 2, we controlled for arousal levels and examined the impact of valence on memory. We found that negative verbal contexts impair the memory of the word when presented together. Our findings suggest that speech-based emotional contexts do not facilitate verbal memory processing. In particular, negative emotional contexts were found to reinforce the serial position effect. Negative emotional contexts tend to disrupt task performance and fail to elicit memory-enhancing effects, especially when both the context and memory stimulus are verbal. These insights offer a valuable contribution to our understanding of the nuances of auditorily delivered emotional context in verbal memory processes.
With the abundance of digital contents, the necessity of precise indexing technology is consistently required. To meet these requirements, the intelligent software entity needs to be the subject of information retrieval and the interoperability among intelligent entities including human must be supported. In this paper, we analyze the unifying framework for multi-modality indexing that Snoek and Worring proposed. Our work investigates the method of improving the authenticity of indexing information in contents-based automated indexing techniques. It supports the creation and control of abstracted high-level indexing information through ontological concepts of Semantic Web skills. Moreover, it attempts to present the fundamental model that allows interoperability between human and machine and between machine and machine. The memory-residence model of processing ontology is inappropriate in order to take-in an enormous amount of indexing information. The use of ontology repository and inference engine is required for consistent retrieval and reasoning of logically expressed knowledge. Our work presents an experiment for storing and retrieving the designed knowledge by using the Minerva ontology repository, which demonstrates satisfied techniques and efficient requirements. At last, the efficient indexing possibility with related research is also considered.

This paper proposes a novel of a personalized Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) system based on learner's cognitive abilities related to foreign language proficiency. In this CALL system, a strategy of retrieval learning, a method of learning memory cycle, and a method of repeated learning are applied for effective vocabulary memorization. The system is designed to offer personalized learning based on cognitive abilities related to the human language process. For this, the proposed CALL system has a cognitive diagnosis module which can measure five types of cognitive abilities. The results of this diagnosis are used to create dynamic learning scenarios for personalized learning and to evaluate user performance in the learning. This system is also designed in order to have users be able to create learning word lists and to share them simply with various functions based on open APIs. Additionally, through experiments, it has shown that this system helps students to learn English vocabulary effectively and enhances their foreign language skills.
