  • 본 논문은 복잡한 배경을 가지고 있는 영상에서 우리가 원하는 손의 움직임의 일부인 가위, 바위, 보를 인식함으로써 좀 더 자연스러운 인간과 컴퓨터의 상호작용(HCI, Human and Computer Interface)을 이루고자 하였다. 정규화된 RGB 색상 공간에서 정의한 피부색의 가우시안 분포를 이용하여 조명의 변화나 개인의 차이에도 효과적이고 안정적으로 손 영역을 찾아내고자 하였으며, 추출된 손 영역은 RBF 신경망을 이용하여 가위, 바위, 보로 인식되도록 하고, 다양한 pattern에 대응하는 효율적인 training방법을 사용하였다.

Detection of Facial Features Using Color and Facial Geometry (색 정보와 기하학적 위치관계를 이용한 얼굴 특징점 검출)

  • Facial features are often used for human computer interface(HCI). This paper proposes a method to detect facial features using color and facial geometry information. Face region is first extracted by using color information, and then the pupils are detected by applying a separability filter and facial geometry constraints. Mouth is also extracted from Cr(coded red) component. Experimental results shows that the proposed detection method is robust to a wide range of facial variation in position, scale, color and gaze.

Multi Function Console display configuration and HCI design to improve Naval Combat System operability

  • The Naval Combat System has several equipment needed to operate the system, such as radar equipment, underwater sensor equipment, guns and missile control and armed control equipment, and a multi function console is configured to control it. The multi function console is equipped with HCI(Human Computer Interaction)-based software for displaying the status information of equipment and controlling equipment, and the operator uses the installed software to operate the Naval Combat System. However, when operating a Naval Combat System for a long time, there are problems such as physical discomfort caused by the structure of the multi function console display and increase in fatigue of the person who operates various and complicated user interface configuration. These issues are important factors in reducing Naval Combat System operability. In order to solve these issues, in this paper, based on a questionnaire survey conducted for Naval Combat System development personnel, multi function console screen design to reduce physical discomfort and HCI design to reduce fatigue and increase intuition are proposed. The proposed design is expected to provide convenience to future Naval Combat System operators and improve operation over existing Naval Combat System.

Development of Human-machine Interface based on EMG and EOG (근전도와 안전도 기반의 인간-기계 인터페이스기술)

  • As the usage of computer based systems continues to increase in our normal life, there are constant efforts to enhance the accessibility of information for handicapped people. For this, it is essential to develop new interface ways for physical disabled peoples by means of human-computer interface (HCI) or human-machine interface (HMI). In this paper, we developed HMI using electromyogram (EMG) and electrooculogram (EOG) for people with physical disabilities. Developed system is composed of two modules, hardware module for signal sensing and software module for feature extraction and pattern classification. To maximize ease of use, only two skin contact electrodes are attached on both ends of brow, and EOG and EMG are measured simultaneously through these two electrodes. From measured signal, nine kinds of command patterns are extracted and defined using signal processing and pattern classification method. Through Java based real-time monitoring program, developed system showed 92.52% of command recognition rate. In addition, to show the capability of the developed system on real applications, five different types of commands are used to control ER1 robot. The results show that developed system can be applied to disabled person with quadriplegia as a novel interface way.

Design of Computer Vision Interface by Recognizing Hand Motion (손동작 인식에 의한 컴퓨터 비전 인터페이스 설계)

  • As various interfacing devices for computational machines are being developed, a new HCI method using hand motion input is introduced. This interface method is a vision-based approach using a single camera for detecting and tracking hand movements. In the previous researches, only a skin color is used for detecting and tracking hand location. However, in our design, skin color and shape information are collectively considered. Consequently, detection ability of a hand increased. we proposed primary orientation edge descriptor for getting an edge information. This method uses only one hand model. Therefore, we do not need training processing time. This system consists of a detecting part and a tracking part for efficient processing. In tracking part, the system is quite robust on the orientation of the hand. The system is applied to recognize a hand written number in script style using DNAC algorithm. Performance of the proposed algorithm reaches 82% recognition ratio in detecting hand region and 90% in recognizing a written number in script style.

  • 본 논문에서는 RGBD(Red Green Blue Depth)센서를 이용하여 얻은 영상의 깊이 정보와 손 이미지의 기하학적 특징을 이용하여 손의 중심을 검출하는 방법을 제안한다. 영상의 깊이 정보와 피부색 정보를 이용하여 손 영역을 검출한다. 검출된 손의 기하학적 정보로 손에 대한 볼록 외피(convex hull)를 형성한다. 볼록 외피의 정점들(vertices)의 위치 정보를 이용하여 손의 중심을 찾는다. 손의 중심은 손의 위치를 추적하거나 손가락 개수를 구하는 것 등에 이용될 수 있다. 이러한 응용은 인간과 컴퓨터의 상호작용(HCI, Human Computer Interface)을 이용한 시스템에 적용될 수 있다.

Effects of Self-disclosing Agents (자기노출 에이전트의 효과)

  • The importance of interface agent as user interface increases in the ubiquitous computing environment. It is essential that an interface agent can develop social relationship with users. We propose that self-disclosure, a major factor to form and maintain human relationship, can be useful to achieve this goal. This study examined the effects of the degree of a computer agent's self-disclosure on the users' social responses. The experiment was conducted in a 2(intimacy of agent's disclosure: high vs. low) by 2(amount of agent's disclosure: high vs. low) between-group design. The results show that: 1) reciprocity of self-disclosure was found in both sub-dimensions (intimacy and amount) of self-disclosure; 2) in case that participants received highly intimate self-disclosure from the agent, social attraction, trustworthiness and expectation of mutual influence toward agent were lower than when the agent's disclosure was less intimate. These findings suggest that the intimacy of agent's self-disclosure can affect on gathering user information and human-agent relationship formation separately. While agent's highly intimate disclosure can be useful to gather user information, agent's appropriate disclosure can be useful to form positive user-agent relationship.

  • 정보통신부 출연의 "HCI를 위한 음성 입출력 처리 기술 개발" 과제에 대하여 기술한다. 이 과제의 주 목적은 PC 윈도우 환경에서 사람과 기계 간의 음성 입출력 기술을 개발하는 것이다. 이를 위해 음성 인식 분야에서는 화자 적응, 잡음 적응, 및 인식 대상 어휘 적응 기술을 개발하며, 합성 분야에서는 시스템 메시지 합성 기술을 개발한다. 또, 음성이 기존의 입출력 수단인 키보드나 마우스를 모두 대치할 수 없으므로, 본 과제에서는 음성이 추가됨으로써 입출력이 편리해지는 다중 모드 입출력 기술의 갭라에 초점을 맞추어 기술을 개발하고 있다. 인식 분야의 주요 연구내용은 음성검출 및 비음성 제거, 인식 속도 향상, 인식 성능 향상이며, 합성 분야 주요 연구 항목은 학습형 합성기 알고리즘 및 이의 문제점 해결이다. 본 논문은 이러한 점을 정리하여 발표한다.정리하여 발표한다.

  • 최근에 사용자 행태 분석 개념이 매우 중요한 이슈가 되고 있다. 하지만 SE(Software Engineering)와 HCI(Human-Computer Interaction) 두 분야의 틈으로 HCI 관점의 시스템 모델링을 위한 적절한 모델링 언어나 도구가 부족하다. 그리고 원시 데이터를 분석하여 사용자 행위를 모델링하는 것은 실제로 어려운 작업이다. 이 논문에서는 목적(Goal)지향의 사용자 행위 분석을 통해 객체를 식별하고, 추출한 공통/비공통 행위를 기반으로 시스템을 모델링 하고자 UBA(User Behavior Analysis)방법론을 제안한다. 그리고 유비쿼터스 환경의 홈 네트워크 인터페이스 모델을 적용 사례로 언급하였다.

Evaluating Existing Usability Heuristics to Create a New Set of Heuristics for the Current State of Korean Technologies (한국 기술 현황에 적합한 신규 Heuristics 생성을 위한 기존 Usability Heuristics 평가)

  • Usability heuristics("heuristics") are general principles for usability evaluation during user interface design. This method is commonly used by Human Computer Interaction(HCI) professionals; however, the most widely used set of heuristics which were originally created by Nielsen has not yet been found practical in the current state of Korean technologies. In our prior research, we found that some of Nielsen's heuristics are difficult for some evaluators to understand and insufficient to fully evaluate Korean applications, due to the broad-applicability of these heuristics and differences in cultural context. Therefore, in this study, professionals in computer science and related fields evaluated Nielsen's ten usability heuristics in order to gather logical bases for finding areas for improvement. The results of this study will help creating a new set of heuristics that will better valuate more recently developed applications.
