  • As the production of small quadcopter drones has diversified and multi-sensors have been installed in FC due to the spread of MCU capable of high-speed processing, small drones that can perform special-purpose operations rather than simple operations have been realized. Hovering, attitude control, and position movement control were possible through the IMU in the FC mounted on the drone, but control is not easy when GPS connection and video communication are not possible in a closed building with a complex structure. In this study, when encountering an obstacle with a change in altitude in such a space, we proposed a method to overcome the obstacle and perform autonomous flight using optical flow and IR sensors using the Lucas-Kanade method. Through experiments, the drone's altitude flight on stairs that replace the complex structure of a closed space with stable hovering motion has a success rate of 98% within the tolerance of 10 [cm] due to external influences, and reliable autonomous flight up and down is achieved.

  • Quadrotor UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) is a flying robotic platform which has drawn lots of attention in the recent years. The attraction comes from the fact that it is able to perform agile VTOL (Vertical Take-Off Landing) and hovering functions. In addition, the efficient modular structure composed of four electric rotors makes its design easier compared to other single-rotor type helicopters. In many cases, a quadrotor often utilizes vision systems in order to obtain altitude control and navigation solution in hostile environments where GPS receivers are not working or deniable. For carrying out their successful missions, it is essential for flight control systems to have fast and stable control responses of heading angle outputs. This paper presents a Fuzzy Logic based lateral PI controller to stabilize and control the quadrotor vehicle equipped with vision systems. The advantage of using the fuzzy based PI controller lies in the fact that it could acquire a desired output response of a heading angle even in presence of disturbances and uncertainties. The performance comparison of the newly proposed Fuzzy-PI controller and the conventional PI controller was carried out with various simulation results.

  • Unmaned Aerial Vehical(UAV) is a flight which is automatically flying by remote control on th ground. However UAV has an advantage of control that is easy, but has an disadvantage of not hovering. By comparison, quadcopter which is one of the UAV is easily operated. Also quadcopter has hovering function and high stability. In this paper, we propose stable flight algorithm associated PID(proportional-integral-derivative) control with fuzzy contorl to implement stable quadcopter system. After getting a positioning information of the drone, This proposed system is implemented for stable flight through flight attitude control using gyro and acceleration sensor. We also propose the flight mode system to hover drone with GPS sensor.

  • In order to shoot underwater, the photographer must be equipped with shooting equipment and enter into the water. Since the photographer directly enters the water, safety accidents occur frequently due to various obstacles or deep water in the water. The proposed underwater stereo photography technique can solve the safety accident problem caused by the entry of the photographer into the water by using the drone for underwater photographing. In addition, this technique has the advantage of obtaining underwater images at low cost. In this study, the angle of the proposed cam for stereoscopic photography was analyzed and the condition that the proper stereoscopic image can be viewed was defined as the distance from the floor of 18cm to the floor distance of 41.4cm. This provision is proposed to be used to adjust the height of the shooting area descended by the elevation chain of the water surface hovering drones.

  • In this paper, the acoustic pressure of a helicopter rotor in hovering and low speed descent flight is predicted and compared with experimental data. Ffowcs Williams-Hawkings equation is used to predict the acoustic pressure. Two different wind tunnel test data are used to validate the predicted results. Boeing 360 model rotor test results are used for the low-frequency noise in hover, and HART II test results are employed for the mid-frequency noise, especially BVI noise, in low speed descent flight. A simple free-wake model as well as the state-of-the-art CFD/CSD coupling method are adopted to perform the analysis. Numerical results show good agreement against the measured data for both low-frequency and mid-frequency harmonic noise signal. The noise carpet results predicted using the FFT(Fast Fourier Transform) shows also reasonable correlation with the measured data.

  • As appearance of diverse electric power supplies and fuel cells have been emerging, UAVs have capacity to prolong their flight missions. Nowadays, the rotary based UAVs that are commonly distributed on the open market, adapt rechargeable batteries and have around 50 centimeters in width and generally within 30 minutes in hovering flight capacities. UAV's flight time highly depends on the capacity and the weight of its batteries. To cope with the flight time, recharging methods are also being researched. their researches are mainly divided into coupled and decoupled in manner. In this article, we propose the method to refine the position more effectivly and precisely adapting QR Code and 3-D position estimation so that UAVs enable to land on the recharging system successfully.

  • One of the major advancements of the Fourth Industrial Revolution is the use of Internet of Drones (IoD), which combines the Internet of Things (IoT) and drone technology. IoD technology is especially important for efficiently and economically operating C4ISR operations in actual battlefields supporting various combat situations. The purpose of this study is to solve the problems of limited battery capacity of drones and lack of budgeting criteria for military drone transcription, introduction, and operation. If the mission area is defined and corresponding multi-drone hovering check points and mission completion time limits are set, then an energy and time co-optimized scheduling and operation control scheme is needed. Because such a scheme does not exist, in this paper, a Drone Force Deployment Optimization (DFDO) scheme is proposed to help schedule multi-drone operation scheduling and networked based remote multi-drone control.

  • The proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) method can identify principal modes that optimally capture the energy content from large multi-dimensional data set. In this study unsteady pressure fields on the rotor blade surface of a helicopter in forward flight are expressed by a reduced order model based on the POD method. Special modes containing high energy are analyzed to investigate the aerodynamic characteristics in more efficient way. The CFD simulation of flowfields around helicopter rotor blade in hovering motion is also conducted to validate its prediction with experimental result. In the process 7 modes containing energy ratio 99% from 240 snapshots information are identified and utilized to construct a reduced order model.

  • Recently, several approaches to share road conditions and/or digital contents through VANETs have been proposed, and such approaches have generally considered the radial distance from the information source as well as the TTL to provision an ephemeral, geographically-limited information sharing service. However, they implement general MANETs and have not been tailored to the constrained movement of vehicles on roads that are mostly linear. In this paper, we propose a novel application-level mechanism that can be used to share road conditions, including accidents, detours and congestion, through a VANET. We assign probabilities to roads around each of the intersections in the neighborhood road network. We then use the graph representation of the road network to build a spanning tree of roads with the information source as the root node. Nodes below the root represent junctions, and the edges represent inter-connecting road segments. Messages propagate along the branches of the tree, and as the information propagates down the branches, the probability of replication decreases. The information is replicated until a threshold probability has been reached, and our method also ensures that messages are not delivered to irrelevant vehicles, independently of their proximity to the source. We evaluated the success rate and performance of this approach using NS-3 simulations, and we used IDM car following and MOBIL lane change models to provide realistic modeling of the vehicle mobility.
