Design and Implementation of Context-Aware-based Emergency Detection System with Energy Reduction for Elderly Housing (고령자 주거환경을 위한 상황인지 기반 에너지 저감형 위급상황 감지 시스템 설계 및 구현)

  • As increasing the number of the elderly people, various IT-based home systems for the elderly are actively studied. However, while most systems for the elderly focus on systems detecting emergency cases, systems considering energy reduction in the elderly housing are rarely found. In fact, the systems for the elderly housing consumes rather more electric power for their functions. In this paper, a emergency monitoring system including the functions to reduce energy useage is studied and it is implemented. Though the system, we can achieve both of future-oriented functions for the aged and green society, which are emergency monitoring and energy reduction.

Dynamics of Air Temperature, Velocity and Ammonia Emissions in Enclosed and Conventional Pig Housing Systems

  • This study aimed to compare the dynamics of air temperature and velocity under two different ventilation and housing systems during summer and winter in Korea. The $NH_3$ concentration of both housing systems was also investigated in relation to the pig's growth. The ventilation systems used were; negative pressure type for the enclosed pig house (EPH) and natural airflow for the conventional pig house (CPH). Against a highly fluctuating outdoor temperature, the EPH was able to maintain a stable temperature at 24.8 to $29.1^{\circ}C$ during summer and 17.9 to $23.1^{\circ}C$ during winter whilst the CPH had a wider temperature variance during summer at 24.7 to $32.3^{\circ}C$. However, the temperature fluctuation of the CPH during winter was almost the same with that of EPH at 14.5 to $18.2^{\circ}C$. The NH3 levels in the CPH ranged from 9.31 to 16.9 mg/L during summer and 5.1 to 19.7 mg/L during winter whilst that of the EPH pig house was 7.9 to 16.1 mg/L and 3.7 to 9.6 mg/L during summer and winter, respectively. These values were less than the critical ammonia level for pigs with the EPH maintaining a lower level than the CPH in both winter and summer. The air velocity at pig nose level in the EPH during summer was 0.23 m/s, enough to provide comfort because of the unique design of the inlet feature. However, no air movement was observed in almost all the lower portions of the CPH during winter because of the absence of an inlet feature. There was a significant improvement in weight gain and feed intake of pigs reared in the EPH compared to the CPH (p<0.05). These findings proved that despite the difference in the housing systems, a stable indoor temperature was necessary to minimize the impact of an avoidable and highly fluctuating outdoor temperature. The EPH consistently maintained an effective indoor airspeed irrespective of season; however the CPH had defective and stagnant air at pig nose level during winter. Characteristics of airflow direction and pattern were consistent relative to housing system during both summer and winter but not of airspeed. The ideal air velocity measurement favored the EPH and therefore can be appropriate for the Korean environment. Further emphasis on its cost effectiveness will be the subject of future investigations.

  • The purpose of this paper is to develop ubiquitous systems based upon individual space in an apartment dwelling, which are called space-based systems in a ubiquitous Apartment. This research investigates the present technology-based ubiquitous systems in apartment design and also include the recent design themes such as 'well-being space' and 'flexible space' to develop Space-Based systems. The proposed the Space-based Systems are concretely applied in a characteristic dwelling unit of stepped level apartment with specific activity scenarios to demonstrate their actual realization. This paper also focuses on 'responsive systems' with automated actuators and sensors as well as on 'flexible infill systems' to accommodate various space needs.

The Greenhouse-Gas Mitigation Potential analysis by Distribution of Solar Thermal System in Housing Sector (태양열난방시스템 도입에 따른 주거부문에서의 온실가스 감축 잠재량 분석)

  • New and renewable energy systems(solar thermal system, photovoltaic system, geothermal system, wind power system) are environmentally friendly technologies and these in South Korea are very important measures to reduce greenhouse-gas(GHG) and to push ahead with Green Growth. The purpose of this paper is to analyze GHG mitigation potential by distribution of solar thermal system in housing sector with bottom-up model called 'Long-range Energy Alternative Planning system'. Business as usual(BAU) was based on energy consumption characteristic with the trend of social-economic prospects and the volume of housing. The total amount of GHG emission of BAU was expected to continuous increase from 66.0 million-ton $CO_{2e}$ in 2007 to 73.1 million-ton $CO_{2e}$ in 2030 because of the increase of energy consumption in housing. The alternative scenario, distribution of solar thermal system in housing sector had GHG mitigation potential 1.54 million-ton $CO_{2e}$ in 2030. The results of this study showed that new and renewable energy systems made a contribution of reducing the use of fossil fuel and the emission of greenhouse-gas in building.

  • The Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs has announced a policy which could enable the building of urban type housing using a prefabrication method in 2010. However, it may possibly be at standstill owing to the prefabrication methodology has not been currently developed in Korea. Moreover, small households of one or two family members are been steadily increasing, but small housing in which they reside has been decreasing. Because of this situation, the urban type housing has been proposed. To expand the propagation of this urban type house and to promote the prefabrication method, the first-priority project is to develop a technology that is able to reduce the construction costs, as well as to shorten the construction period. Considering this prefabrication system as an avenue to be able to solve these problems, a series of systems and policies for fostering prefabricated urban type housing has been proposed. This study is to review a series of methods, technologies and policies that are required for urban type housing and henceforth, to utilize them as preliminary data for prefabricated urban type housing.

External Environment Analysis of Target Countries for Overseas Expansion of Long-life Housing (장수명주택 해외진출을 위한 대상국가의 외부환경분석)

  • Currently, the Korean construction industry is shifting its interest to the overseas construction market because of a stagnating domestic market. In the meantime, the international housing construction market is expanding with respect to new city development projects that are supported by population growth and urban migration. Despite the Korean construction industry's expertise in new city development, technology, and systems for apartment supply, the share of Korean players in the international housing construction market is continuously decreasing. As a measure to overcome this situation, the authors of this study considered the paper "The Development of a Cost Effective, Long-life Housing Model and Construction of Testbed," which is currently in progress as a part of national project. Through literature review and interviews with experts, the authors determined that there are "column+minimum interior (infill)" apartments that are similar to the long-life housing in some areas of China, Southeast Asia, and Russia. Candidate countries expected to be feasible for the entry of long-life housing were selected by determining the top countries that have already entered the long-life housing market and analyzing those selections through additional specific techniques. Needs for the Housing Consultation and Information about Housing in Seoul Area (서울시 거주자의 주택상담과 자료 요구도에 관한 연구)

  • This study aimed to aimed to obtain some basis data for the housing consultation and information about housing through survey of needs for the housing consultation. Respondents were housewives from 395 households living in Seoul area. Questionnaire was used for survey and the collected data were classified by two items such as types of residence and age of housewives. The survey was performed during two weeks in September 1997 and analyzed by frequency mean and percentage using SAS program The finding are as follows; (1) According to the actual conditions of housing consultation the main source of information related to housing was a newspaper Those who had experience detached house had much more opportunities than those of multi-family house. The most frequent agency for housing consultation was a realty dealer showing 65.8%. However the percentage of visiting permanent housing exhibition centers was high among the people aged 20 to 30, noted 20.4%. (2) Level of understanding housing consultation showed 3.45 points among 5. This result indicated that the service system of housing consultation were required. Architects and interior designers were most preferred as specialists whom the respondents wanted to consult with . As to the contents of consultation the most required item was changing of interior space(22.6%). In case the housing information leaflet is sold the respondents were willing to pay 523 won for each of it. (3) Among leaflets related to various information leaflets about housing purchase were most preferred(21.0%) According to the result of the survey the need for the information about housing purchase indicated higher preference than about housing management. The fact could be thought that consumers' consciousness of housing should be changed. Therefore it is desirable to lead consumers to lengthen the expected life span of their house and value happiness of the house by providing them with consulting systems about housing management throug housing consultation materials and development of its programs.

A Study on the Planning of Cohabitating Housing for the Elderly (고령자의 동거형 주택계획에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to find out the effective planning guidelines of elderly housing fur the aged people living with their sons or daughters. To investigate the actual conditions and the problems of housing environments, two hundred and six old people in Gwangiu city, aged over sixty and living with their sons and daughters, were interviewed individually and they provided the useful answers to the questions. The houses for three generations need to have the proper degree of privacy fur each family member, by arranging rooms for their own independent living space while securing the sufficient common space. Therefore, independent and safe living environments are to be made for the elderly and the choice of various types be made according to their own demands. It is also necessary to guarantee the continuation of inhabitation by establishing health care systems and life support services.

  • Recently, by applying the 4th industrial revolution technologies such as A.I., IoT, and big data to general residential infrastructure, various application services of residential-based are provided to residents through linkage and utilization between technologies. Accordingly, smart housing system is increasing as advanced living spaces that can improve the quality of life and convenience of residents. Such a smart housing is expected to be an item that can create new demands and markets in the construction industry since it provides a new paradigm that combines construction technology and IT by combining IT technology with existing construction industry. Based on this, it is expected that it will be possible to gradually develop large-scale markets such as smart buildings and smart cities. In this paper, therefore, we propose an artificial intelligence multiplex smart housing system as an intelligent platform that can autonomously manage and control the size of places and spaces, used for various purposes based on smart housing technology by using artificial intelligence systems.

Scaling of the Price Fluctuation in the Korean Housing Market

  • We study the scaling of the price fluctuation in the Korean housing market. From the numerical analysis, we show that the normalized return distribution of the housing price, P(r), has a fat-tail and is well approximated by a power-law, $P(r){\sim}r^{-({\alpha}+1)}$, with ${\alpha}{\simeq}3$ for the whole data set. However, if we divide the data into groups based on the trading patterns, then the value of ${\alpha}$ for positive tail and negative tail can be different depending on the trading patterns. We also find that the autocorrelation function of the housing price decays much slower than that of the stock exchange markets, which shows a unique feature of the housing market distinguished from the other financial systems.
