The purpose of this study was to investigate whether or not the clothing behavior of house-wives in Seoul vary depending on their socioeconomic status. The null hypotheses tested in this study were as follows: 1) There are no differences in housewives' attitudes toward the importance of clothing according to their socioeconomic status. 2) There are no differences in housewives' criteria of clothing choice according to their socioeconomic status. 3) There are no differences in housewives' clothing taste according to their socioeconomic status. 4) There are no differences in the pattern of housewives' clothing purchase according to their socioeconomic status. In order to test these null hypotheses, questionnaires on clothing behavior and socioeconomic status were distributed to a sample of 243 purposively selected housewives in Seoul, Korea. The factor analysis, correlation and analysis of variance techniques were employed for the statistical analysis of data. The results indicated that: 1) The attitudes toward the importance of clothing was related to socioeconomic status. 2) The criteria of clothing choice (aesthetics-practicality), clothing taste (individuality-conformity), and the pattern of clothing purchase (a degree of rationality) were not related to socioeconomic status. 3) The criteria of clothing selection was related to housewives' level of education. 4) Clothing taste was related to housewives' age.
The purposes of this study are to investigate the impacts of social network support on the middle-aged housewives' crisis and to identify the importance of social network systems of modern families. The subjects of this study were unemployed housewives living in the Seoul area, whose age was from 40 to 59 and whose last child was older than 11 years old. Data were collected by structured questionnaire with the subjects(N= 404). The collected data were analyzed by Frequencies, onewy ANOVA, Scheffe-test, t-test. The major findings were as follows ; 1) Middle-aged housewives, who were the first half of 40's, university graduated, and bilieved in a religion, had lower crisis. 2) The association of social network support and middle-aged housewives' crisis, which were found to be significant were as follows ; (1) The more middle-aged housewives received total, emotional, instrumental support from husbands' families of origin, the lower their crisis was. (2) The more middle-aged housewives received total, emotional, informational, support from their families of origin, the lower their crisis was. (3) The more middle-aged housewives received total, emotional, instrumental support from their friends, the lower their crisis was. (4) The more middle-aged housewives received total, emotional, instrumental, social companionship support from their voluntary association members, the lower their crisis was.
The Purpose of this study is to investigate both the value consciousness of home management and home management activities which urban low-paid housewives have and to find out the value consciousness of home management has an influence upon the home management activities. The results obtained area as follows; 1) Most of urban low-paid housewives are place in a traditional position of home management as a housekeeper or as a family leader. 2)But partially they gave more or less modern standpoints in consuming, planning and family relationship. 3) The value consciousness of home management of urban low-paid housewives is variable according to housewives' age (P<.05), education (P<.001), numbers of children(P<0.5) and wording experiences before marriage (P<0.1). The younger respondonts showed rather modernistic value consciousness of home management. The respondonts who have high educational level showed the same result. It is also strong points form them to habe few children and to have working experiences before marriage. 4) while the home management activities of urban low-paid housewives are positive as for connecting with human relationship, consuming and evaluating they are negative as for connecting with planning, creativity and housekeeping. 5)On the whole, the home management activities are variable by housewives' age (P<.05). The younger showed more effective home management abilities. 6) the home management activities of urban low-paid housewives are influenced by the value consciousness of home management. The more modernistic value consciousness of home management is connected directed directly with excellent home management activities.
The purpose of this study is to classify the home management behaviors of urban housewives and to find out variables which influence them. Following are the results. 1. The home management behavior of urban housewives are classified into six types. Thouse expense and convenience oriented type, using the information and family centered type, tradition and steady oriented type, improving life type, conservative and thrifty type and the self-faithfulness and change adaption type. 2. The purposes of this study are to classify housewives based on their perception of benefits sought of preschool child education commodity and to identify the characteristics of each type. For empirical analysis, the data for this study were collected from 400 full-time housewives with preschool child living in Seoul. The statistical methods adopted fur data analysis are cluster analysis, one-way ANOVA, Duncan's multiple range test and discriminant analysis. The major findings of this study are as follows : First, four housewives' types can be categorized by the level of those 3 dimensions. The name fur the types was given as 'sticking to one's belief type', 'taking importance to early stimulation type' 'conforming to and imitating others type', and 'believing blindly in education commodity type'. Second, the result of discriminant analysis shows that 'housewives' education level and their education-related values' element was the most crucial in classifying the housewives, and 'considering child's characteristics and educational home environment' element was the next. The results of this study suggest several implications fur the education of parents with preschool child. Parents' education programs differentiated by the objects and the problems should be developed : which are suitable for each housewives' type.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the participation in social activities by full-time housewives with infants and preschool children. The data in this study comes from a 1 percent free sample of the 2010 Population and Housing Census collected by Statistics Korea. The statistical methods for this study were percentage, chi-square test, and logistic regression analysis. The findings are as follows. First, there are differences in participation in social activities according to number of infants, number of preschool children, and number of elementary schoolchildren. Second, there was the difference in participation in social activities between full-time housewives and full-time wives' husbands. Third, factors like full-time housewives' age, educational level, number of preschool children and elementary schoolchildren, number of rooms, and occupancy status affected participation in social activities by full-time housewives. These results show that full-time housewives were under pressure in relation to participation in social activities because of their caregiving labor but participated in religious and educational activities actively.
In order to explore the present status of induced abortion, a survey was conducted on 578 married women : 320 employed women, 165 urban and 93 rural housewives, during the period form June, 1972 to september, 1972. The results were as follows: 1. The rates of induced abortion in urban housewives, employed women and rural housewives were 50.3%, 30.3% and 1l.8%, respectively. 2. With regard to the duration of marital life, the rate of induced abortion was higher group of 11-16 and 17-22 years of duration than those of less than 4 years ana more than 23 years. 3. There were significant differences between housewives and the employed women. and also between urban and rural housewives in the rates of induced abortion. 4. The mean number of pregnancies was 4.9 and 4.8 for the rural and urban housewives while for the employed women was 2.1. 5. The mean number of live births was 4.5 and 3.2 for the rural and urban housewives while for the employed women was 2.1. 6. Average number of living children of the women who had experienced induced abortions was 4.8 and 3.1 for the rural and urban housewives while for the employed . women was 2.5. 7. There was a significant correlation between induced abortions and social class or educational level. The higher their level of education or social class, the more frequently women were experienced induced abortions. 8. There was a significant correlation between experience of induced abortions and family planning practice, vis., the women who had experienced induced abortions made more use of family planning practices.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the usefulness and application of home economics curriculum to housewives. For this research, a survey was conducted using questionnaires against 427 housewives living in Seoul, Gyeonggi-do, and other provinces. The data analysis of this study was verified by frequency, mean, t-test, and Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ coefficient by using SPSS 12.0 program. The conclusions of this study are as follows. First, more than 88% of the housewives recognize that home economics curriculum is necessary. Second, as for the areas of the usefulness and application of home economics curriculum, housewives recognize the "family and child" area was most useful, followed by "food, nutrition & cookery", "consumer and family financial management", "housing and residential interior design", and "clothing care, apparel design and making" areas. Third, the better perceive the housewives think of the home economics curriculum, the higher is the appreciation of the curriculum. Based on this research, home economics curriculum was proved very important and necessary in everyday life for housewives.
This is the research on the observing annual customs, the annual custom foods and the application of the annual custom foods to the school foodservice. We sample 419 housewives live in Kyungnam area and 174 dieticians work at the primary and secondary schools. Annual customs the housewives and dieticians observe at high degree are Chuseok, Seolral, Jeongwoldaeboreum, Dongji, Chopail, Sambok etc. The housewives observe more Seolral, Chuseok and Dongji than the dieticians and the dieticians observe more Sambok than the housewives.(P<.001) When they provide school foodservice, the dieticians observe Dongji at the highest degree. In Kyungnam they eat most the gakjongnamul as annual custom foods on Chuseok and Seolral. They eat most ogokbap and mugeunnamul on Jeongwoldaeboreum, minarinamul on Chopail, and samgyetang on Sambok and patjuk on Dongji as the annual custom foods. Most of dieticians (94.3%) answer that it is good to provide annual custom foods as the school foodservice on annual customs. However, they indicate some practical problems to do such as inadequacy of the school cooking facilities, its not suiting students' tastes, etc. The rate of housewives' answers that we have to transmit annual customs is higher than that of dieticians.(P<.001) Seolral topped the list of annual customs both housewives and dieticians answer must be transmitted, followed by Chuseok, Jeongwoldaeboreum, Dongji. Dongji is followed by Chopail(P<.001) in the housewives' answers while Sambok(P<.001) in the dieticians' answers. Though most of the respondents know the origins, dates and details of annual customs they think must be transmitted, they don't know well those of the other ones. By their mothers both housewives and dieticians have come to know about annual customs and mostly affected. Secondly housewives affected by their mothers-in-law while dieticians by their school education.(P<.001)
The principal objective of this study was to evaluate the consumption behavior of housewives in the Jeonju area with respect to their use of environmentally-friendly agricultural products(EAPs) and to assess the need for EAPs in childcare centers also in the Jeonju area. Self-administered questionnaires were given to and collected from 278 housewives 42.4% of whom employed and 57.6% were unemployed. Statistical data analysis was performed on the data collected using SPSS v. 12.0. The average score of awareness about EAPs was $3.57{\pm}0.56$. The percentage of subjects who purchased EAPS was 76.3% regularly. On this group, 40.3% purchased EAPs 1~2 times in week. Unemployed housewives purchased more than employed housewives by a statistically significant margin(p<0.05). The most-purchased EAPs were vegetables. The average satisfaction score that housewives reported in relation to foodservice provided in childcare centers was $3.66{\pm}0.58$. About 65% of the respondents felt that the EAPs-foodservice in childcare centers was an important factor for them in choosing of a childcare centers. Approximately 42% of the housewives responded that EAPs-foodservice in childcare centers was needed to improve the safety of foodservice provided in chidcare centers. The percentage of subjects who wanted to expand EAPs-foodservice in childcare centers even though the parents would have to bear some of the financial burden was 42.5%. A higher proportion of employed housewives wanted to expand EAPs-foodservice in childcare centers more than unemployed housewives, and this finding was statistically significant(p<0.05).
