Effect of reinforcement strength on seismic behavior of concrete moment frames

  • The effect of reinforcing concrete members with high strength steel bars with yield strength up to 600 MPa on the overall seismic behavior of concrete moment frames was studied experimentally and numerically. Three geometrically identical plane frame models with two bays and two stories, where one frame model was reinforced with hot rolled bars (HRB) with a nominal yield strength of 335 MPa and the other two by high strength steel bars with a nominal yield strength of 600 MPa, were tested under simulated earthquake action considering different axial load ratios to investigate the hysteretic behavior, ductility, strength and stiffness degradation, energy dissipation and plastic deformation characteristics. Test results indicate that utilizing high strength reinforcement can improve the structural resilience, reduce residual deformation and achieve favorable distribution pattern of plastic hinges on beams and columns. The frame models reinforced with normal and high strength steel bars have comparable overall deformation capacity. Compared with the frame model subjected to a low axial load ratio, the ones under a higher axial load ratio exhibit more plump hysteretic loops. The proved reliable finite element analysis software DIANA was used for the numerical simulation of the tests. The analytical results agree well with the experimental results.

  • 유도탄의 성능 향상을 위해 추진기관의 경량화가 요구되고 있으며 연소관 모타 마개의 경우, Ti 합금 (Ti-6Al-4V)이 사용되고 있다. 제작 과정 중에 열간 형단조 공정이 이용되나 이 과정에서 Ti alloy의 좁은 성형 온도 구간 관계로 단조시 국부적 소성 변형 집중에 의한 결함이 단조품의 다수 생성되며, 심한 경우 전단 파단까지 이르고 있다. 성형 과정에서 금형과의 접촉에 의한 Ti 합금 온도 하강이 전단 파단 발생과 밀접한 관계를 갖고 있으며 따라서 각 단조 조건에 따른 Ti 합금의 내부 및 표면에 대한 변형 및 온도의 분포가 관찰되었다. 아울러 전단 밴드 형성에 대한 별도의 분석도 포함되었다.

대형 증기터빈 물유입에 의한 손상메커니즘 분석과 원상복구특성 연구 (Study on Damage Mechanism Analysis and Recovery Characteristic of the Large Scale Steam Turbine Cased by Water Induction)

  • In this study, the damage mechanism of large scale steam turbine due to water induction was analyzed and recovery characteristics were reviewed. A turbine consists of the rotating rotor and the stationary casing, and the clearance between them is very small for the efficiency enhancement. If water induction, while relatively cold steam or water is introduced into turbine, occurs, the considerable humping is caused at the casing near the initial water induction point and that induces the rubbing between rotor and casing. Finally, it leads to the catastrophic failure. Bowed rotor has the different characteristics in the recovery depending on damage degree. The elastic deformation due to light rubbing is recovered by turning the rotor with 3 rpm under normal operation condition, but most plastic deformation due to rubbing deforms the local microstructure and that results in permanent deformation which could not be recovered under normal operation condition. Bowed rotor has diverse characteristics depending on the recovery method, and the method is empirical and needs the cutting edge technology. Careful recovery treatment of the rotor will eliminate the risks and secure the high quality rotor similar to new rotor. If any critical error is made during the recovery, the rotor would not be recovered permanently and it should be scrapped.

  • High temperature deformation of Ti-6Al-4V alloy with a lamellar colony microstructure was investigated by hot compression and torsion tests. The torsion and compression tests were carried out under a wide range of temperatures and strain rates with true strain up to 2 and 0.7, respectively. The processing maps were generated on the basis of compression and torsion test data and using the principles of dynamic materials modeling (DMM). The shapes of the strain-stress curves in alpha-beta region and processing maps obtained on the two different tests have been compared with a view to evaluate the effect of the microstructure evolution on the flow softening behavior of Ti-6Al-4V alloy with a lamellar colony microstructure.

  • 본 논문은 EEV를 이용한 냉각시스템의 성능특성에 관한 논문이다. 산업용냉각기는 고속으로 운전하는 공작기기의 열 변형을 줄이기 위해 사용되었으며, EEV는 냉각기의 용량조절을 위해 사용되었다. 본 장치는 압축기 출구에서 나온 핫가스를 증발기 입구로 보내는 핫가스 바이패스 시스템을 위해 설계되었다. 본 실험은 PID제어를 통한 고정도 온도제어 연구의 중간결과물이다. 실험의 결과로 핫가스 바이패스의 EEV스텝 조절을 통하여 증발압력의 상승과 냉동능력의 감소를 알 수 있었다. 본 실험의 결과를 통하여 효율적인 냉각기의 설계에 있어 기초 자료로 이용할 예정이다.

외경이 큰 환형 부품의 다중형상 열간 링 롤링 공정의 개발 (Development of the hot ring rolling processes for multilayered ring parts with a large outer diameter)

  • 열간 링 롤링 공법은 열간단조 후의 잠열을 이용하기 때문에 가공 부하가 적고 최종 환형제품에 가까운 제품을 제조하는 장점이 있다. 본 연구에서는 열간 링 롤링 공법에 의한 대형 직경의 환형 부품의 다중형상 링 제조를 목표로 AFDEX2D 및 AFDEX3D/HEXA/RING 시뮬레이터(simulator)를 이용하여 열간 단조공정부터 링 롤링 공정까지 연계된 공정을 유한요소 해석하였다. 또한 링 롤링공정의 유한요소해석 시간을 줄이기 위해 소성변형이 일어나고 있는 영역에서만 요소망을 조밀하게 재구성하는 이중요소 시스템을 적용하였다. 이 유한요소해석 결과를 바탕으로 실제 공정을 설계하고 실험하여 개발된 제품이 품질 규격을 만족하는지를 확인하였다. 또한 링 롤링 실험 완성품을 통하여 부품의 품질수준 및 공정능력을 평가하였다. 그 결과, 개발된 환형 부품은 40%의 투입재료 감소과 최종 제품의 원소재 회수율이 24% 증가하였다. 또한 링 롤링 제품은 내, 외경의 진원도가 0.5mm로 우수하였으며 공정능력 분석결과 외경 Cpk 1.49, 내경 Cpk 0.85를 확보하여 환형 부품의 다중 형상 열간 링 롤링 공정의 최적화를 실현하였다.

몬순기후형 중온 개질 아스팔트 혼합물의 역학적 물성 평가 연구 (Evaluation on Mechanical Properties of Polymer-Modified Warm-Mix Asphalt Mixtures for Monsoon Climate Regions)

  • PURPOSES : The main distress of asphalt pavements in monsoon climate regions are caused by water damage and plastic deformation due to repeated rain season and increased heavy vehicle traffic volume. In this study, the mechanical properties of polymer-modified warm mix asphalt (PWMA) materials are evaluated to use in monsoon climate regions such as Indonesia. METHODS : Comprehensive laboratory tests are conducted to evaluate moisture resistance and permanent deformation resistance for three different asphalt mixtures such as the Indonesian conventional hot-mix asphalt (HMA) mixture, the polymer-modified asphalt mixture, and the polymer-modified warm mix asphalt (PWMA) mixture. Dynamic immersion test and indirect tensile strength ratio test are performed to evaluate moisture resistance. The wheel tracking test is performed to evaluate rutting resistance. Additionally, the Hamburg wheel tracking test is performed to evaluate rutting and moisture resistances simultaneously. RESULTS :The dynamic immersion test results indicate that the PWMA mixture shows the highest resistance to moisture. The indirect tensile strength ratio test indicates that TSR values of PWMA mixture, Indonesian PMA mixture, and Indonesian HMA mixture show 87.2%, 84.1%, and 67.9%, respectively. The wheel tracking test results indicate that the PWMA mixture is found to be more resistant to plastic deformation than the Indonesian PMA. The dynamic stability values are 2,739 times/mm and 3,150 times/mm, respectively. Moreover, the Hamburg wheel tracking test results indicate that PWMA mixture is more resistant to plastic deformation than Indonesian PMA and HMA mixtures. CONCLUSIONS :Based on limited laboratory test results, it is concluded that rutting resistance and moisture susceptibility of the PWMA mixture is superior to Indonesian HMA and Indonesian PMA mixtures. It is postulated that PWMA mixture would be suitable for climate and traffic conditions in Indonesia.

산화물환원과 압축성형 공정에 의한 Bi2Te2.5Se0.5 화합물의 제조와 열전특성 (Fabrication of Bi2Te2.5Se0.5 by Combining Oxide-reduction and Compressive-forming Process and Its Thermoelectric Properties)

  • We report the effect of plastic deformation on the thermoelectric properties of n-type Bi2Te2.5Se0.5 compounds. N-type Bi2Te2.5Se0.5 powders are synthesized by an oxide-reduction process and consolidated via spark-plasma sintering. To explore the effect of plastic deformation on the thermoelectric properties, the sintered bodies are subjected to uniaxial pressure to induce a controlled amount of compressive strains (-0.2, -0.3, and -0.4). The shaping temperature is set using a thermochemical analyzer, and the plastic deformation effect is assessed without altering the material composition through differential scanning calorimetry. This strategy is crucial because the conventional hot-forging process can often lead to alterations in material composition due to the high volatility of chalcogen elements. With increasing compressive strain, the (00l) planes become aligned in the direction perpendicular to the pressure axis. Furthermore, an increase in the carrier concentration is observed upon compressive plastic deformation, i.e., the donor-like effect of the plastic deformation in n-type Bi2Te2.5Se0.5 compounds. Owing to the increased electrical conductivity through the preferred orientation and the donor-like effect, an improved ZT is achieved in n-type Bi2Te2.5Se0.5 through the compressive-forming process.

분말단조에 의한 베벨기어의 성형 기술 연구 (Development of Bevel Gear by Powder Forging Process)

  • The powder forging process is an attractive manufacturing route for bevel gears. It offers beneficial material utilization and the minimization of finishing operations over that of conventional hot forging. The paper describes the process conditions for the powder forging of bevel gear, for example, powder alloy design, preform design, deformation of sintered preform, forging processes. The characteristics of prototype gear are investigated with microstructure, the density distribution, surface roughness of tooth, bending strength test of tooth, etc. The results of the bending strength test may prove the mechanical properties of powder forged gear.
